Next year we will be a better team. I'm just looking at the current 9 man rotation versus what I presume it to be next year and we will be more talented across the board. There will still be some shortcomings on the roster as currently we are a center and a SG short imo. But i am excited for the future. In regards to this season, I will remember it as a young team that left some wins on the table. And I can't help but think that if Shields doesn't get hurt we have a couple more wins right now. But here's to hoping this team can pull out a couple more wins this year and end on a positive note.

Don't be so quick to pull the trigger on Benny... He plays a bigger role than many on here have EVER realized. We don't get "instantly" better by losing a 4 year guy like Parker. Sorry.

We will lose some experience and some of the defense of BP but next year there will be a very clear path for Glynn Watson to play 30+ minutes every game. One can certainly make the hindsight argument that he should have been already.

Well if we are throwing out guys who might leave why not Watson.  Some would have to say we missed used him this year.

He should have played more than he did.....but he's actually shown legit potential.   Unlike a few of the others mentioned.

When experience is the only positive thing you can bring up....I don't consider it much of a loss.   Watson is/was the better player this year and the gap will only widen next year.

And to be fair...I don't mean this to be a Hate on Parker thread.   But in general 4th year seniors who struggle to score 4 points a game in 25 minutes of play, generally aren't real hard to replace.    And if they are...you probably aren't faring real well.

Don't take this end of the season stuff too personally. None of these kids at the end of the day are going to make a decision based on what any internet smart guys are saying. Benny Parker has persevered over a lot worse/more than our opinions.

Big, gutty senior performance from Shields tonight.

White isn't right and I'm not sure we're going to win another game without him. He's made 9 shots in the last 3 games.

Tai took and missed a lot of shots tonight. Benny hit his first and that was it.

Ed Morrow had some UPs tonight...looked as springy as I've seen him all year. With a summer in the weight room and a maybe a jumper he's going to be a load next year.

Jacobson will not miss AJ Hammons or even Purdue. Hammond was lost in the shuffle tonight.

Fuller and that block was huge for us to get back in it during the first. I wish he could shoot.

Where is Jack McVeigh?  2 games ago he's keeping us in the Ohio St game. Tonight it's 4 minutes and 0 shots. Why?

When Watson makes that rhythm jumper, it's a thing of beauty. 3-6 and you probably remember all 3 of those makes.  2 assists and 0 turnovers along with a couple of those phantom fouls that kept him out of the game. Probably needed to say F-it a little sooner and just run the offense entirely through him.

Just way too many easy baskets and open looks tonight. Still a chance to keep out of the play-in game on Sunday vs Northwestern

McVeigh and Miles had a long and spirited discussion during a media timeout.  They seemed to be arguing for almost the entire timeout.  Never saw McVeigh again after that

McVeigh took the brunt of the blame for three straight Purdue 3's.  Got benched for crappy defense.  At least that's the explanation.

Actually was talking with a couple of teachers here who are leveled headed and they both put that question out there.  I don't see it because where would he go?  But one never knows in this day and age.

Unfortunately here is another sobering stat. The largest margin of defeat in PBA history happened to fall on Senior night. I realize this is a tired rant, but the article Lee B. wrote last week about the lack of size on this roster was spot on. While Miles has improved the overall talent level, the lack of a big man is glaring.Like the old saying goes, you can't teach height.

The Big Ten Network fudged that one up.......Miles got his arse handed to him by Iowa last year at the PBA.

That's what I get for listening to those B1G yahoos, and HOW could I have forgotten the A**  whuppin' Iowa put on us...

Down by 20 after 12 minutes at home on Senior Day doesn't cut it.  Not saying Miles has lost the team but Im watching closely for the balance of the season.

Im a broken record on this but not filling scholarships and not recruiting serviceable big men is killing us. Get someone on staff who can get the big man job done. In my mind, Miles spends too much time telling knock-knock jokes to the hotel night front desk clerk than searching out big men.

Boy are we all lucky we got someone like you, golfer, keeping a close eye on the program for us.

For a minute there I was worried that nobody was going to be paying attention.  After all, somebody's gotta make sure things are done the right way or else we run the risk of things really spiraling out of control, eh?

Can we please switch SENIOR DAY to after the game please?  We got guys sitting around and then run into the locker room at the 5:00 mark.  Only to run back out.

We might still have lost and that would make for a crappy Senior Day, but we might not come out all flat and loose this game in the first 10:00.

Could somebody look up and see how we have done over the years with Senior Day before?  It also would help if we could get a team that we should beat to play in this game.

So, maybe have senior day early in the season when we're playing someone easily beatable.  Like Samford.  Or Incarnate Word.

No Norm I said somebody we can beat like Michigan State.

Find a big man and things change dramatically next year.   Not to trash him on senior night...but we are instantly better the minute Parker's eligibiity expires.

Shields is an all timer but I do think he's replaceable.   For as good as he's been the last two games, he's had some poor games in conference as well.   Another year of experience for Watson and the others and Gill and Roby coming in can offset Shields IMO.

In a perfect situation for me...Fuller and Hammond move on... we get a 5th year or JUCO transfer big, Jordy T and a shooter for next year.

Just any old big man right? It doesn't matter if they can play right? You make it sound like it's an easy position to recruit. 6'11"+ quality guys just go on trees and we just need to pick one...right. Lets not go back in time where we waste scholarships on guys who make Hammond look like an AA.

I don't want to see anyone transfer. Both of those guys, Hammond and Fuller, are at the very least serviceable, if not in games then in practice, who can give you good minutes and spark off the bench. They are also going to be upperclassman which provides our team with some stability and leadership. We need an off season of stability...for once.

If anybody where to leave it should be Molinari since he coaches our big men, but even then I like to see us have some stability in our coaching. We have got to stop this revolving door of coaches and players and just stick with who we've got for better or worse. Miles took over a program that was an absolutely disaster. It is going to take much more than 4 years to get us to a spot where we have some stability and move us out of the bottom of the conference.

With all that said Miles has to find a way with a smaller lineup to play against teams like Purdue. When you front a big men like Hammons or Haas you better make sure that that the guy who is passing the ball in to him has someone in his face. Several times our center rotated to help on defense against a penetrating guard when it wasn't necessary leaving the Purdue big man wide open for the dunk. A player like Hammons should always have a defender stuck to his hip. We also failed on rotating our defense leaving wide open 3pt shots. Early in the game all the wrong people where taking shots. Shields and AWIII were MIA and we looked like a team without any answers. Miles called TO a couple of times during that early Purdue run and it didn't help. Give credit to Purdue because they looked very polished.

We have at least 2 more games left to play this season and in the NCAA isn't over until its over. This team is very capable of putting together a run. Until this game against Purdue we had played everybody in our conference tough, even in our losses.

I grow tired of our entitled whinny fan base and our local hack media. We are becoming our own worst enemy.

You want stability but you also want the most stable coach to leave? Who is leaving first for a head coaching/high level job: Mo or the other guys? Miles doesn't put out statements complimenting Molinari because he doesn't feel the need to make Husker nation feel great about the qualifications of a guy who has been coaching for 30+ years. He doesn't need to go on his radio show and talk up the guy who is the lead on Roby and Horne.

All this anti-Mo stuff on here doesn't really matter though. If/when Miles reads it he'll probably copy and paste it into an email to get a rise out of Molinari while laughing.

Lost me at Hammond and Fuller are serviceable.  Because outside of the random game each...neither has shown that and they aren't exactly playing behind a ton of McDonald's All Americans.  Neither could find a lot of time on a team that was very thin and very inexperienced and very inconsistent in the front court.   That doesn't scream serviceable.

Posted

Okay so if we cut both Hammond and Fuller and don't get anybody, what does this do to our program then?

We then have 3 open scholarships and nobody filling them.

Because we haven't been world beaters in filling our roster now.  If we wait and have a kid maybe.  But you have two guys in the system who know what is takes, will sit and not leave because they aren't getting time, help in practice, and are like Minutemen in that they are ready to play even if they haven't played for a couple of games or weeks.

I guess because I'm old I still believe in having some loyalty to a player and school, along with a coach being loyal to players.  To me at5 this point in this program we aren't going to fill those two spots with better players or team mates.  Then we are back to square whatever number it is.

Just my thoughts on the deal with what I call the Fantasy League mentality which is drop coaches and players on a whim because I can get somebody better on the open market.

Perhaps you missed this part in my statement about coach Mo. "...but even then I like to see us have some stability in our coaching." Meaning if someone where to leave I wouldn't mind if it where coach Mo but in the end I prefer stability.

I wouldn't exactly say the PBA has been packed. I'm not whining about the fans, I'm describing who they are.
