I find this kind of interesting...the game thread was started with the mention that Glynn was sick and his minutes would be limited.  That dude gutted it out!!!

 

Our freshmen are playa's.  They went into a hostile, fired up student section that really got their mojo going during the "clock issue" and grew up big time.  Man, I am still smiling.

That's an understatement. Thing worked out for us in the end, but boy... I wasn't too happy with that mishap. That certainly shook things up for a bit. I'm glad our players didn't let that atmosphere get to them in the end.

We're really lucky they shot poorly from the stripe (12 of 21 = 57%.)

They were also lucky to shoot 11-18 from 3, including the last make which was ridiculous.

 

 

No kidding on that 'three heave.' That desperation three by DV was the 'game' if it had not clanged in. Nebrasketball from start to finish were in position to be the better team tonight. Typically the aggressor wins, and that was the Huskers on this fine evening; and that was with DV making 6 for 8 on triples.

 

Shavon is our PTPer, in the words of Dick Vitale. The freshmen did some good things, as did Tai & Benny for what they were supposed to be doing. AW-III & Ed just were never much of a factor because of the foul situation. But tonight belonged to SHIELDS! What a stud, even getting injured with 4:24 left in the 1st half didn't slow him down. He TOOK OVER the game in the 2nd half. Like I wrote, WHAT A STUD!! GBR

Third straight win over Izzo, two times on the road.  All these people are marveling over Iowa winning in East Lansing (and, yes, it was a great win & all). Hopefully everyone noticed that Nebrasketball just beat a desperate MSU team that HAD to have the W. MSU had their 3rd straight B1G defeat this season, and now, a 3rd straight defeat to Miles & Co. Bet Izzo wished he'd have never written the foreward to Miles' "Nebrasketball" book! lol

Oh, and another true freshman came off the bench to score 8 points on 66.7% from 3 and grabbed 6 rebounds.  I'm talking, of course, about Jack McVeigh.

Absolutely love beating a team coached by a Hall-of-Famer who spends most of the game whining and throwing hissy fits on the sideline trying to work the refs.

You could almost tell by the look on Izzo's face in the second half that he was thinking something along the lines of, "I'm a very successful 60 year old man, why do I still have a job that forces me to act like a clown 30 times a year?"

...another very key point in this game was the last four minutes of the first half.  White was sitting with foul issues and Shavon went out with his injury.  We could have really, really melted down.  Instead, the five on the floor stepped up.  I am not 100% sure who was on the floor, but I believe it may have been Tai, Glynn, Benny, Jack and Michael.  BIG time play.

Remember that someone convinced Izzo to write the foreward to the "Nebrasketball" book, too; Izzo also did a video tribute to Miles on winning the Big Ten Coach of the Year (IIRC). Izzo might have Miles on the mind! lol

Wow!!!    Had to DVR the game but stayed away from knowing the outcome until I could watch it.  What a great win.  Obviously terrific game from Shavon but everyone contributed.   Team really is playing with confidence right now.  We beat a very good team on a night when their best player played well and we even had to overcome some ridiculous calls (Whites 5th WTF??).   (Also were those TV announcers the Michigan St radio crew?  Can't remember a game with more on-sided commentary).

 

Anyway - this sets up Saturday as huge game.  We need to avoid a letdown and protect our home court !!   Hopefully we have a big enthusiastic crowd Saturday.

The best thing from Shavon tonight?  He had success going to his left.

 

Against Miami earlier in the season, Shavon tried going right and right only.  That he's worked a drive to his left into the mix just makes him all the more dangerous.

Great pt - no Shields, no White. Coach could've panicked and put White back in, risking that 3rd foul. Shields left with around 4 1/2 to go before halftime, and we're down one, 28-27. Then Benny had the turnover for a MSU layup and it's 30-27. We looked to be in huge trouble there. Instead, the group on the floor kept us in it, getting it to a halftime tie. I think we held MSU scoreless the last 2 1/2 minutes of the half.

 

Webster had a couple of drives and scores on floaters in the lane in that section if I remember right. We needed him to step up & he did. 

 

Another key spot was at the 10-min mark of 2nd half. Shavon needed a blow, White had 4 fouls, game was tied, so we were in the same position. Tai had another key hoop that broke the tie, a 17-footer, followed by a Tai pass from the lane to the corner for the McVeigh 3. Then Benny gives up his body to break up the pass in the lane, Shields replaces an injured Benny, gets a 3-pt play and all of a sudden we're up 8 at the under-8 timeout. 

 

Those two stretches won the game for us in my mind. We needed to survive without Shields & White on the floor and we did even more than that.
