hskr4life Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 One more thing... We as the fans sucked today. There were some here and there that got up and got loud at times but I was really disappointed in the atmosphere today. It was a fairly standard Nebrasketball crowd. School not being in session doesn't help things. Didn't really have too much issue with what the crowd did or didn't do. I audibly heard volleyball 3 clap during the opposing team announcement and Crean seemed pretty comfortable most of the time. For Indiana it was pretty dead. I too heard the volleyball clap. There were multiple times today that we could have been a major influence. Particularly when we went on our short runs, and when Indiana had stuff go against them. We as a crowd never really made an influence in the game. I heard the Indiana bench multiple times tonight from across the court 14 rows up! The mindset of the fans is pretty disappointing right now. If you go into the game thinking we are going to lose, then crowds like this happen. We talk about the players needing to learn how to win, needing to show up every game, not be ho hum about things, but the crowd that I saw today needs to take a look in the mirror. When a team hits back to back buckets to cut into a lead at home and I am in the minority of people who are standing up going crazy... That's pathetic. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
ajb5856 Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 I looked up with about 8 min left in the game and Indiana was 58% and 56% from the field and from 3, respectively. Almost 60%. I know we gave them a fair share of dunks, but they also hit bunches of tough, tough jumpers and long 3 pointers, most of them reasonably guarded. Let's face it. Our first 2 opponents in big 10 play had 3, even 4 guys on the court at a time that could knock down the 3 ball. We have at most 2 guys and a majority of the time 1.5 guys who can shoot the 3. Quote

The fans are all the same ones that are always there. It's about the same crowd as we've seen the past 15+ years. The student section getting back will have a big impact. I agree there. I never realized how much of an advantage is probably is to go on the road to start the B1G. 49r and TourneyBound 2 Quote

Indiana is one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country. Also, NU shot .284 from 3 last year (holy crap, that's terrible!!!). We're hitting .365 this year (.416 in conf. play so far). That's the best NU's shot from behind the arc since the 2009-10 season. Also, next year they should get even better when Gill joins the rotation. Him, White and McVeigh should make for a solid, solid core. And Watson's proving capable, too. We could be a top 50 shooting team next year. Quote

They don't even have the Husker Power on the floor when our team is being introduced. They at least was doing that earlier this year. Also what is a foul this year? I know you can't touch them with your hand but you can knock a guy down with the body correct? We got killed a bunch and so did they, the two worst being Shavon n the break, and Yogi going to the hole once. I feared somebody was going to get hurt. Quote

ajb5856 Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Of course it doesn't help that the students are mostly gone these last couple games to help the chant out if the cheerleaders and light/scoreboard operators aren't allowed to. What gets me is that do these billionaire donors actually think an opposing player has a right or deserves to have his name heard overhead? The players certainly don't give a s*** if the opposing fans hear their name. For goodness sakes everyone has a damn program and their names appear on 50 score boards all across the arena. University was promoting the chant during opponents intros with cheerleaders and graphics, then the University pulled support after certain people thought it was rude. Typical Nebraska bullsh** where somebody thinks it "isn't the Nebraska way" or "we're better than that" or some s**t. Haymarket Husker Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 Of course the condescending 3 claps appear to be less rude to them. I disagree. It shouldn't surprise me though. It is very disappointing. I look at it in a more positive light versus being rude. We are showing our team that we are there and we have their backs and do what we can to help them win. I just don't see what the big deal is. Our fans never cease to amaze me. Condescending claps are Nebraska Nice apparently. No one will convince me they aren't condescending either, otherwise we would just clap normal for them if we were doing it for good sportsmanship. Silverbacked1 and Noah121 2 Quote

This is the second game where we have let the opposing team shoot 50% or better in the second half and the second game where we stuff led offensively which makes no sense. Miles should be able to guide and direct on offense in the second half with all the offensive action directly in front of him. jimmykc Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 I think we should keep the three clap intro since it is so disrespectful to the opposing team without actually being raucous. And to make it even worse for them, I suggest we go to a two clap intro. They might just turn around and go home at that point. And while I am suggesting, I really think they should sell hot tea and some fresh crumpets at the concession stands. Haymarket Husker and Silverbacked1 2 Quote
demone Posted January 3, 2016 Report Posted January 3, 2016 IMO, there are only 2 things wrong with the fan participation: 1) The Husker Power Chant - we all agree this is a ridiculous stance taken by corporate wonks who don't want to offend anyone. 2) The stream of people leaving when the clock goes under 4 minutes. Beyond that, I had no issues with the fans yesterday. They cheered, got loud a few times when it was warranted...heck, those that remained did what they could to extol a defensive stop when we got it down to 6 with under 4 minutes to go. At a certain point, the product on the floor has to reward the cheers and outside of 1 magical run 2 years ago, it hasn't done that in many, many years. I kind of liken it to the chicken and the egg story - some believe the chicken (fans) come first, I believe the egg (results/wins) come first. We saw what it could be like 2 years ago - give the fans wins and PBA can be a really loud, tough place to play. Until then, it will continue to be inconsistent at best. hhcmatt and jimmykc 2 Quote

It wasn't his second game. With the way Indiana was shooting and making tough contested shots, this caused us to have to get up and guard a little tighter. This then opened up driving lanes which Indiana used to drive and make some great ball movement passes. I credit Indiana for the second half they played yesterday. We will not see a lot of halves like that again for the rest of the year (so long as we continue to play as well as we did that second half). Quote
