What Tim Miles has done in only two years really shows how bad of coaching job Barry/Doc really did here. Miles has proven this program is not snake bitten/cursed in Basketball it is possible to get in the tourney here. Doc’s major problem roster management and terrible job hiring a staff and lack of x’s and o’s coaching.  Barry’s problem about everything but most importantly was RECRUITING! Miles was left with nothing and still got 15 wins and then revamped the whole roster with un proven players and made the tourney WOW!

Obviously Miles is "miles ahead" of those guys, but he also has the advantage of having exceptional backing from the administration in terms of money and facilities.

I don't care to debate this all that much, but let's agree that we finally have everything in place the way it should be.

It might be too early to crown Miles savior yet.

Shields was already on the roster.

Miles brought in transfers Petteway and Pitchford.  They panned out.

It is possible Miles just got lucky with those two.

Who knows if Hammond and Tarin will pan out.  Or eventually Webster.

So far I don't think Miles has done a lot wrong but our "success" can change in a hurry.

Edit: And yea, why the hell bring this up as we prepare for the NCAAs?  This topic is much better for the offseason which could begin as early as 2PM Friday.

This isn't some blind squirrel finding a nut.  This is a coach who is proven, and a coach who has done this at every single school along the way.  I think almost everyone one here including Coach Miles would admit that this is probably happening a little quicker than anyone anticipated.  What you fail to mention in regards to Shields/Petteway/Pitch is that these guys were essentialy nobody's a year ago.  I don't think Miles got "lucky" that their skills have developed into what they are.  I'm not sure if Miles will every be lighting up the recruiting world but we have a coach who has proven can identify AND develop talent which is huge.

I think it is the perfect storm with Miles and his ability along with the move to the Big Ten and the new facilities. Miles has went on record saying that he thinks fan support comes before success. Think about it. What motivates a 20 year old kid? Lethargy amongst the fanbase and 6,000 butts in seats certainly doesn't. The program and fanbase have completely energized each other.

This perfect storm allowed us to win 15 games at PBA which essentially got us to the tourney. I think that people are starting to realize what the diehards over here at HHC have known for a long time. Fans DO make a difference. Now let's keep it rolling.

Have to give Doc credit for bringing in an important part of the current team; esp. Shields, Gallegos and Parker. Obviously, getting Petteway and Pitchford here were huge accomplishments for TM but both had track records that were easier to assess. I, for one, did not have a clue that Petteway would be as good as he is. (Good thing I'M not recruiting!)

In many ways, this year's phenomenal run puts Miles at some risk. Achieving as much as we did this year has raised the bar of what we expect. If they had ONLY made the NIT, no one would be crying. Now that we've reached the Dance, reaching it again will be the standard. Miles' ability will now be judged more quickly and stringently by how his first and second classes develop. The good news is 1) the team that accomplished this will mostly return next year so those classes have a chance to develop and 2) TM's track record is really good.

Bravo, sir. Well said. Now let's move on as mentioned and not stab past well-meaning but not overly talented coaches in the back. Great men and people who don't deserve us criticizing them. (I know that sounds paradoxical)

I've wondered what Doc has thought of this quick turnaround? Obviously his duties with Iowa State have kept him focused on the Cyclones task at hand, but I'm sure he is happy for his former players and recruits. I'm sure part of him is also jealous (maybe not the right word) that it didn't take Miles long at all to get things turned around. I'm sure Doc is confident in his own coaching abilities and maybe believes he would have made the tourney too with the chance to coach at PBA? I don't think that, but he probably does.

Every successful person has a little luck on their side. In Miles' case, a piece of his current success comes from timing.

If Baby Knight doesn't get booted from Tech, we're not having this discussion right now. That's big luck. Sure, we still had to land him after he was recruited to CSU, but still...it's the small things in the universe that make such a difference.

I struggle to understand how anyone can say anything bad about a coach that gave us his all, proved he could coach in his third year with one of the better performances I've ever seen, but panicked a little in recruiting and also had pretty much every bad break in the book his last two seasons with having to switch from one distinct conference into another that was very different.

Let's please leave Doc alone. He was a true Husker during his 6 years here, and I still consider him a part of the Nebraska family.
