bison husker Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 You would think that these media contract deals would help lower these kids' tuitions. You would think but, no they keep raising it. I/or my son will feel it next year as he is a senior right now and don't know where he is going to. Quote

HuskerFever Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Potentially a deal worth $200M annually for the B1G. The worst part is, if the deal is a wash, you can't just get rid of the teams and try again. http://sportsillustr...x.html?mobile=n Quote
cipsucks Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Just for giggles, I found a Maryland message board to gauge their response to the potential move. It was 80-20. 80% in favor of going to the B1G, and 20% against. It was also 80-20 in another area. 80% of the posters reminded me of Colorado Buffalo fans. This could be interesting. Quote

TheGov21 Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 I am a tad underwhelmed by the proposed schools. The problem s that they are probably the only two remaining schools that fits what the Big 10 looks for. Didn't help that the ACC jacked up their buyout fee. Quote
BjoeHusker Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 If Maryland joins the B1G do they loose lacrosse? Not sure how thay all works. I'm guessing lacrosse is fairly independent (not arranged by conferences). If they kept lacrosse that would give them more sports than other B1G schools, correct? I still with UNL had a hockey team. I kind of like the B1G the way it is now, however expanding to the NYC and DC market makes sense. I kind of feel Rutgers would water down the league and I can't stand Maryland's football uniforms! All the important stuff. Quote
HuskerFever Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 If Maryland joins the B1G do they lose lacrosse? I can't stand Maryland's football uniforms! 1) I think they may need to drop lacrosse unless they go independent (Johns Hopkins, High Point, and Mercer are the three independents). 2) I actually kind of like their uniforms. To each its own Quote
HuskerFever Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 I'll tell you one thing though with all this realignment talk..... it certainly is much different being on the inside looking out now. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Here's the way I see this vote tomorrow---no way Delany lets anything get voted on unless he knows the outcome prior to the vote. If they vote, they're coming. Yeah, I agree with this. If they're voting, it's because the deal is done behind the scenes and this vote is just a matter of formalities. No one in these kinds of things (except Missouri) sticks their necks out without assurances that their heads won't be lopped off if they do. The B1G doesn't want to publicly extend an offer that might not be accepted and the school doesn't want to publicly vote to accept an offer that might not be extended. If they're voting, it's because its a fait accompli (how's that for a Frenchy term, Jimmy?) and all that's left are formalities. Quote
Creighton Fan Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Money is ruining college sports. It's very sad. It would be a joke if the Big 10 added these two teams. The Big 10 is already a laughing stock in football this year and this would only make it worse. It would also take a very strong Big 10 basketball conference and make it worse as well. Adding these 2 teams would weaken the conference. But if it bring more revenue, then it will happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't. While Maryland is down right now, I think for hoops only, adding Maryland would be a long term plus. For football though? Meh to yuck. One other important thing that adding Maryland does is to potentially open up the DC area to recruiting by Big 10 schools. There are tons of athletes, both FB and BB players, but especially hoopers, in that area. With the national media arguing that the Big10 FB lacks athleticism and doesn't have enough talent hotbeds within its borders, a Maryland add might help that a bit. I do agree though that the two schools seem odd choices. If UConn replaces Maryland in the ACC, don't be surprised to see Louisville to move to the Big 12 in the near future. If that happens, the Big East could be dead. Quote
TheGov21 Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 With the Big East taking another hit losing Maryland and Rutgers I wonder what that means to schools like Georgetown, Villinova, St. Johns and such. Could we see them start up their own basketball league? Maybe add in the likes of Xavier and some other top Mid Majors? Quote

It just kind of happened really quickly. Rumors only broke on saturday, two days before Maryland voted on it. Are we just getting used to the expansion process? Or is Delaney getting good at hiding his intentions? Quote

All the important stuff. I think the B1G is anxiously developing lacrosse to be a conference sport. NYTimes: Where Michigan Goes in Lacrosse, Will Others Follow? With Michigan’s addition, the Big Ten now has three teams, which is not enough for the conference to officially add the sport, but enough to land men’s lacrosse on its television channel: on April 14, the Big Ten Network is expected to air the Michigan-Ohio State game. Will Michigan State, which has a well-developed club program, be spurred to action? bison husker Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Exactly, should only be a matter of time before that happens as well. I am surprised ACC hasn't already added UCONN. They will now that Maryland is gone....UConn wanted in but the ACC was staying at 14 teams. I see Big 12 now going after Louisville and Cincy out of Big East and probably Florida State and Clemson from ACC. Quote

bison husker Posted November 19, 2012 Report Posted November 19, 2012 Boise State and San Diego State would have been wise imo to stay in the MWC as that conference is better than the Big East now and they get an automatic bid to BCS bowl in 2014 if they are highest ranked team from other 5 conferences. Lot less traveling. Quote
