I don't get how people are arguing this point. Last night, we got bounces. Last night, we got some calls. Finally.

People are arguing this "point" because we refuse to chalk up yesterday's win to "lucky bounces", "lucky calls" and exorcising demons. Rather, how about giving some credit to our coach for his plan and our players for some grit?

Miles said yesterday that an article referring to years of baggage hit him like a punch in the gut.

Stop punching our coach in the gut.

Are there really, seriously, fans on this message board who don't feel like a weight has been lifted from our collective shoulders?

Norm...I agree....with both you and coach Miles.  He's right...none of that stuff is on him.  It's not. I've been a fan since Cip's last season and Iba's stepping into the roll. Yes....we had a few good years with Nee...but not even his entire stay here was great.  The Weight has been around a lot longer than the past 15 years. It has now been lifted.

Like I've said, Johnny, and this will be the last I'll say to you on this subject (and, if my fortitude endures, hopefully on any subject) what I've lived through as a fan since long before Coach Miles arrived allows me to savor and appreciate this more than people who signed up as fans this past January.

I feel that just based on my new outlook as a fan of this program is proof that something has changed. Simply put, I've never had this feeling before. But who feels a little bad about throwing away what those players in the past have done for us. They weren't this team, many times we got close. This is a new era, but let's not act like this is the first time we've had players trying. I feel like this is a product of everyone who has been here before, and everyone should feel a part of this

I don't particularly feel that way though I can definitely see how many people would.  Isn't that same sort of angst going to be there when we are announced for the tournament?

I was already banking on us making the dance next year...this year is still just house money.

Win that first ever NCAA tournament game?  I just might....

Before this thread got sidetracked into something it wasn't about, I was going to invite people to unshoulder the Husker basketball fan burdens they've been carrying around with them while waiting for a moment like last night to take place.

I have a few but I don't want to hog all the good ones.  But, after last night, I no longer care that the Clearinghouse screwed us on Roburt Sallie.  I am letting that one go.  (Remember how I said in the OP that I was thinking of naming this thread "Roburt Who?")  And I no longer will be bothered by the Admissions Office holding up Brian Diaz on his English language requirement.  Letting that one go, too.  No more "what ifs" or "if onlys" about that anymore.

Those are mine.  Anyone else?

(BTW, not quite sure what someone doesn't get about "exorcising demons."  To exorcise means to drive something away or get rid of it.  It doesn't mean to take it out for a vigorous walk.)

I will adopt Miles comments because they are cold hard truths. Feel free to continue to try and put me in a box, but I've been a season ticket holder since the "Sit Down Norm" days. Now I have to come the forum to say it, sadly.

Uh.....what?

I can forget about all the times I had to close my eyes when Niemann had the ball because I already knew a travel was coming

What ever demons that had remained lurking in my mind about Nebrasketball were exorcised with the Ohio State win.  January 20th, 2014.

But if I had to pick one moment, one event that has stuck with me (until this year) I would have to say it's the Josh Carter 3 at the buzzer to complete a miraculous comeback for Texas A&M at BDSC in 2008.  That, for me, was a crushing blow.

Hey Norm, are you letting Sheldon Jeter go also?  ;)

This feels like the success of the last years of Tom Osborne's coaching tenure. The big difference, however, is that it's only the beginning of Tim Miles' coaching tenure.

To me, it feels more like the Dave Van Horn era.

I like this comparison

YES!!!  No more Sheldon Jeter.  Done.  Ancient history.  No "what ifs" about  him.  I'm in the now, baby.

I have multiple opinions on this topic.

--When Miles made the comment "don't put that crap on me...that baggage doesn't exist" I don't think he meant that this history of thd program doesn't exist. I think that he meant that he will set his own precedent, rather than allow the one that has been set by other players/coaches dictate the way they go about things. I think he meant that he (and this team) have no control over what happened before they got here. All they can control is what they do, now that they are here.

I believe it had something to do with a comment that someone made 2 months ago, before this team had learned how to play together. Someone called Miles out saying multiple things. One of them being "The time to win is now. We haven't been to the tournament in 15 years..."

Miles responded with "Well, you haven't. I have. We know what we are doing and we know how to build this thing."

He doesn't want to be the new boyfriend, that is punished by the girl, because her past boyfriends have all screwed her over. All he can control is his actions.

--I also believe that his comments were very calculated. I believe that he is trying to keep his team from being so tightly wound when they play in their 1st NCAA tourney game. He knows how fans/media can be here. He knows that the BIGGEST story that will be focused on is "Nebraska hasn't made the tourney in 15 years, and Nebraska has never won a game".

Nebraska fans/media have a tendency to beat these things to death, which gets into the heads of the players. I believe it's one of the reasons that Nebraska football was able to play so close with Texas so many time, but always found a way to choke the game away. Because there was so much tension built up in the time leading up to the game.. talking about how Nebraska can never beat them. So these players are asked these questions by all of the local media, and the players read about it in every article put out by the local media.

I think Miles made those comments for the benefit of his players. Knowing that the big story is going to be that Nebraska hasn't made the tourney in 15 years and Nebraska has never won a game. I believe Miles doesn't want his players to be concerned with any of that, so he wants to do his best to stop that narritive in the media, before it has a chance to make this team play tight in the NCAA Tourney. Because for them to play to their potential, they need to be focused on the here and now...not the past history of the program.

--While Miles doesn't want his players to worry about what this program hasn't done in the past...that doesn't change the fact that the fans have had to experience these things.

I don't believe Miles was trying to discredit what the fans have had to endure in he past. He just doesn't want to be held responsible for something that he had no control over.

These things did exist. The fans did have to endure these things. Nothing will ever change that. And I don't think Miles is trying to sweep that under the rug. I think he is just saying that he doesn't want Nebraska's past to be held against him, or this team.

I have a feeling that the lady at Scooters in the morning asks him about it.

I started believing that the status quo was changed when the University committed to building the practice facility and the PBA was built.  I started believing more when reading the resume of Tim Miles.  I started believing even more by watching Miles' team improve game by game.  It really hit home after attending games in the PBA.

If you need a curse lifter...a sign....a something....believe in PBA Magic.  It's the magic of how committing to a winning financially plus hiring the right guy will do for a program

Unfortunately the players do not live in a bubble and the media and fan  focus on any team which has not won something in the past will be just that. The players will just have to accept that fact, live in the moment, and use the lack of previous success to motivate themselves. It is quite possible to do just that and we have the 2004 Boston Red Sox as an example.
