basketballjones Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 1. Andre needs to get better shots. His hook is going to be so inconsistent all year -- guarantee it. He needs to use his big body, soft hands, and skill to shot fake, pivot, shot fake, get guys up in the air and either get easy lay-ups or get to free throw line. That hook is going to fail him too often. We absolutely need Big-Andre to be a 12 and 8 player for us. 2. Dylan Talley cannot have nights like that. End of discussion. 3. Poor execution (in my opinion), on the free throw at the end of the game. You have to have a couple people up on the paint to get in front of people and make that 3 harder. He got a free release and free look at the hoop -- that goes in, and a lot of people are very pissed right now at that execution, guarantee it. That's all I got... Didn't get to see a ton of the game -- but, one other thing... We might not be that bad this year. Maybe. Possibly. Heck, who knows. Norm Peterson 1 Quote

He held last season's Horizon Valley Player of the Year (Ryan Broekhoff) to just 8 points on 2-11 shooting. Quote

hhcmatt Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Maybe Talley just wasn't feeling it that night. It was odd looking up at the stats board and seeing him with 1 point. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 I was surprised when I looked up and noted that Dylan had scored only one point. He sure wasn't whining about it. Ray and Ubel carried the offensive load (what little load existed -- We will need 10 to 15 a night from both Dylan and Andre to go with the same or even a tad more production from Brandon and Ray. They are our Gladys Knight's...and then their Pips can play good supporting roles. Quote
noazhusker Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 great win, loved how the team played and feel they will be a team that continues to improve as the season goes along. guard play is a positive and we have a couple of scorers, Talley needs to score every game. only big disappointment was the crowd. come on people get behind the huskers, after all what else do you have to do in nebraska? Swan88 Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Dylan seemed to stop going for the basket after he blew the dunk--too bad on that because he made a really nice move to the basket on that play. It would have been the highlight reel of the game, had it gone in! TheGov21 1 Quote
Norm Peterson Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Gallegos, Ubel and Talley are like Nebraska's version of Lethal Weapon 3. OK, they're not exactly Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver. But, like it or not, those three are where our points will come from (or fail to come from) this season. And Talley is going to have to be able to play defense AND score or what will probably be a brutal season anyway will only be brutaler. Lethal Weapon 3. I kinda like that. They should have a poster. Except they're more like tazers, tear gas and bean bags than bullets, bombs and grenades. So, what are those? Semi-lethal weapons? Non-lethal weapons? Crowd control weapons? Hey, if it's crowd control, it seems to be working. BjoeHusker 1 Quote
Red Rum Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 It seems when Andre tries all that fancy head fake stuff he ends up traveling. That might be why he sticks with the hook. And yes Dylan should have had more than one point but it wasn't like he was jacking up shots left and right and missing. A win is a win. Ugly or not they all count the same in the "W" column. Quote
huskas4real Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Yes, Talley scored one point but he played excellent defense. Also, teams will have to start honoring Gallegos more if he keeps up the shooting. This will open up Talley for more shots. Not worried about Talley one bit. He barely got any shots up. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Andre gets screwed no matter what. He is fairly strong so he can go to the basket with guys hanging on him, no call. He takes the charge, doesn't go down like an Italian soccer player, no call. Sets a pick, guys bounces off, call. Tough to be so big and play basketball. I think many aren't use to seeing some one like him and don't change their reffing style accordingly. Quote
HuskermavfanChuck Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 I tend to think that a lot of people are making too much of him only scoring one point. Maybe this was what Miles asked of him for the night, to make sure his defense on their best player was rock solid, and not worry about scoring necessarily. Not saying that Miles told him NOT to score, but that his job/assignment tonight was to make sure his assignment didn't score. He'll get his nights and points this year, I have no doubt. But I think we blow it out of proportion too much when we make a big deal about one 1-point night for him. Quote
49r Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Since I saw the Red Zone hold up a sign featuring Towelie: With the #24 on it last night, I will forever connect the South Park character with Dylan Talley. Quote

49r Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 Seems to me like, while the team is still learning the new scheme, the Red Zone is in mid-season form from the start! hhcmatt and Norm Peterson 2 Quote

Hey, if it's crowd control, it seems to be working. Norm, you are right--perhaps Parker can also play a little offense, and hopefully Shields, but everyone else is an offensive liability. So those 3 will get LOTS of attention. There will be a lot of nights where it will be tough to get Talley shots. Pretty easy to scheme on defesne against us--few if anyone who can drive the ball, and usually 2 or 3 inept shooters on the floor at one time. Good luck getting points with that. But on nights Talley or Ubel don't score much, it may not necessarily mean they had a bad game. Quote

I sure hope they show up in numbers throughout the entire season. Any idea how many there were (or empty spots remaining)? Quote
brfrad Posted November 17, 2012 Report Posted November 17, 2012 I am a glass half full guy. I'm happy that we won the game despite Talley scoring 1 point. If you told me before the game that we would be even in the game if Talley scored 1 point I would have taken that. To win the game with him scoring 1 point is a bonus. Quote
