HuskerBB Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Was watching Sportscenter and Christian Standhardinger got a mention. Not for his play directly but because some idiot student from Cal-Santa Barbara came on to the court to confront the Hawaii coach who was arguing with the ref - and Standhardinger helped get the kid away from the coach. Anyway - made me looked it up and he is having a nice year for Hawaii - averaging over 17 ppg and Hawaii is 19-10 (but lost to UCSB) which I am guessing has them not quite on the bubble but probably in the NIT. AuroranHusker Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Saw that too - And, wouldn't you know it, Standhardinger was the one to Stand his ground Hard for Coach WhatshisDinger. (cue, cip) Silverbacked1 1 Quote

Charge him with some sort of felony, and perhaps, if found guilty, idiots will think twice before partaking in that sort of borish behaivior. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Pretty much what one of our "fans" did in the Penn State game. We are just lucky the cameras didn't catch it and nothing escalated. Um ... no. We didn't have a fan come running all the way across the floor to confront a coach or a player. The guy you're talking about (and it wasn't me even though I'm sorta defending him) went into an area where it's perfectly legal for fans to be. He did not enter the tunnel. He stayed in the area of the floor immediately in front of the end seats and taunted the PSU thug from that spot. And if I'd been him, I might have been tempted to do the same thing. Good thing I sit way the hell up high. Quote

The Cal-SB kid took it a couple steps further, he went onto the floor and became very confrontational...so yes, much, much worse, yet the Nebraska fan was wrong for his actions as well. Quote

Was just trying mentioning it because he was a former player - not trying to make any sort of point about Doc vs. Miles. Was going to answer - but now that I think about it I don't really want to start that discussion today. Understand that if CS had stayed here and not transferred his eligibility would be up so it is not like he could have been part of this team anyway. Quote
tcp Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I'm happy Christian's found a good spot for him and he's doing well. Hawaii has that effect on lots of people. I'm happier for us, though. We're gonna go dancing. I think. Silverbacked1 1 Quote

I'm not sure he would have ever blossomed for us, though. He might have done better for Miles -- and he might have been willing to take the redshirt that Brandon Ubel didn't want to take. But, bottom line, we're both probably better off for how things turned out. So, not going to question it. Quote

The Cal-SB kid took it a couple steps further, he went onto the floor and became very confrontational...so yes, much, much worse, yet the Nebraska fan was wrong for his actions as well. I watched it all unfold from up in my high perch. I wouldn't say the guy "charged" exactly. More of a determined-looking walk. And he never entered the tunnel/ramp/whatever thing. He stayed in an area that fans are allowed to be in. In fact, he was never near the floor. This episode involving Hawaii was seriously, seriously worse, IMO. We can debate whether what the guy at PBA did crossed a line or not. But what the fan in the Hawaii game did was so far beyond the pale there is just no comparison. The video shows that dude coming down out of the stands and walking all the way across the court to confront the Hawaii coach and he makes physical contact with at least Standhardinger if not the coach as well. The conduct of the guy at PBA you might describe as undignified, disappointing or even troubling. But when I see the video of that fan running out onto the floor and all the way across the floor to accost the opposing coach, only superlatives come to mind. Words like shock, disbelief, appalling, egregious. Both might be bad or wrong but they're whole different categories of bad and wrong, IMO. Quote
Popular Post Husker3434 Posted March 7, 2014 Popular Post Report Posted March 7, 2014 OK guys I feel like I need to do this. I was the one that came down from my seat during the Penn State game. I should not of done that and I realize what a stupid and unsportsmanlike move it was. Let me clear up a few things though. I never once yelled at the player. I yelled at the assistant coach. I never threatened or used vulgar language. If I had, I would be booted for life. I was talked to by the security guard right after the incident, basically with him telling me not to do it again. After the game I was confronted by a higher up event guy asking if I was the one that did it. I fessed up and apologized. He said they talked to the coach and the player to confirm what I had said. The coach and the player both defended me for my comments and basically saved me from getting the boot. I understand how bad it looked and the seriousness of what happened. I will be at the Wisconsin game cheering loudly as always but I will never leave my seat again. Please do not compare me to that kid last night. Right when I saw it I feared comparisons would be made on here and the football recruiting site I am a member of. Once again I completely understand how bad it looked and I am ashamed of it. I got caught up in the moment as I am one of the biggest Husker basketball fans you will ever find. Been going to games since the early nineties when my dad took me to get tickets at the Bob when the skers were practicing. Rich King was walking to the locker room and saw me. Lifted me up on his shoulders and talked to me for 5-10 minutes. I'll never forget that. Instantly a fan for life. I have gone to hundreds of games since. Including a trip to Vegas in the late nineties to watch us get beat by Arizona. I was in High School at the time so any of the usual fun Vegas activities were over my age grade. I saved up my money to go out there solely to watch the Skers play ball. It kills me to read these reactions to my stupid move and to think I made our fans or program look bad. I have sent a letter to the Athletic Department apologizing as well. I hope to put this behind me and move on to enjoy what is absolutely one of the most exciting times in Husker history. Thanks for reading everyone and I really appreciate you coming to my defense Norm. Have a good day and GO BIG RED!!! HuskerFever, jimmykc, Wayne Pesek and 8 others 11 Quote

Do not lump the NU-PSU game in with any of these other events. Its like lumping in shoplifting for a candy bar with grand theft auto or robbing a bank; while not a good thing they are not the same. Wouldn't trespassing do the trick? Also sounds like the kid may be expelled from school. Isn't that punishment enough instead of ruining the kids entire future? Let me ask a simple, or perhaps not so simple question. If that kid would make that same move in many other settings, would he not be charged with assault? You can read his lips...Again, there is a difference between assault and battery. This fits the category of an assault. Per California code: 241.6. When an assault is committed against a school employee engaged in the performance of his or her duties, or in retaliation for an act performed in the course of his or her duties, whether on or off campus, during the schoolday or at any other time, and the person committing the offense knows or reasonably should know the victim is a school employee, the assault is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars ($2,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment. Now, would this be a deterent? Just saying... Quote
