when you're at or near the top in ppg on a conference list like the B1Gs, you're going to get tossed on the ad nauseum lists created by equally ad nauseum people. I think it's good for us, ultimately, and I hope Terran gets to the Show one of these days.

We'll see what happens in the off season when this matters more, but I think it's a legit topic and an interesting one. Someday maybe we'll have the pleasure of getting to obsess over a new early draft loss every year! won't that be fun?

The bolded part isnt consistent with Big 10 schools as a whole, so as much as I'd love it to happen I dont think it will happen at Nebraska.

Him being projected to be drafted wasn't made up on this board.

Doesn't that seem odd to you...that some draft site would think he's a first round draft pick before the people who watch him the most?

I posted this two weeks ago and, since then, we've had other threads on Petteway, so a better question is if we've noticed how good he is, do you think others haven't?

I'm actually surprised this thread hasn't gotten more play.  We've never had a B1G all-conference player before and it's been a long time since we've had an all-conference player at all.  All-conference Husker men's basketball players are few and far between.  And I'm tellin' ya, this kid is putting up 1st or 2nd team numbers.  He might not make an all-league team this year, but we're watching a kid play right now who could be the best Husker basketball player to come along since Venson Hamilton and Ty Lue.

I mean Jeebuz, people, we finally have a guy who comes in and lives up to the hype.  Exceeds the hype, even.  When have we seen that?  People said before the season that he for sure would start.  But who would have pegged him to average better than 17 ppg?

Sure, he has some things to fix.  Which is why he's maybe not a 1st or 2nd team kid this year.  But if he tightens up his defense and learns to play a little more within himself and cut down those silly turnovers, he is going to be one of the best players in the league next year and one of the best Husker basketball players of the last 20 years or so.  Where's the Terran love?

Posted

I doubt he'd be drafted that early and I'd hate to lose him, but it would be a big selling point for Coach Miles - "I took a guy that scored 3 ppg at Texas Tech and turned him into an NBA 1st-rounder in 2 years".  Recruits would take notice.

Not at all considering for years this site has been dedicated to scouting and projecting players to the NBA draft.  Oh, and their scouting report of Petteway appears to be pretty solid also.  This isn't one guy running a garbage site...this is a site that pays scouts and a site that has direct contacts to NBA scouts.  Next update Terran could fall out of the first round...or not even be on the board.  I just thought it was interesting his name is picking up steam.

Who do they pay to scout?  And who are they in tune with in the NBA?  I can tell you now that Petteway is not a first round pick right now.  Curious who they have scouting that think he is.  They are getting paid for that?

Hello everyone, I read the forums all the time and this is my 1st time actually replying. I know a close source to the family and I can assure Petteway is not going anywhere, unless he just goes on an absolute tear this last half of the season. The kid just loves playing ball and comes from a good family so he's not in a rush to get the $$$$, the last thing on his mind is the League. He wants the team and him to experience the NCAA tourney because he remebers his older bother playing in the Tourney and he knows that that goal is an reality next year. He just wants the team to continue to get better and himself included. Don't think one bit that this kid is satisfied!!!

Is he working his way towards being an NBA draft pick?  Yes.

Is he a future 1st rounder?  Maybe...probably not but maybe.

Should he currently be projected as a first rounder?  lol.

"What are we going to do without Terran next year" is your official thing to waste your time worrying about of the week.

Funny how we've gone from "he's a selfish player, coach needs to sit him"

to

"what are we going to do if he leaves early for the NBA?"

We need more games to watch/dissect.  Off days are brutal for our psyche.

My thoughts are that I don't remember anyone ever saying sit him. I think that is a technique referred to as a straw man argument. He had shown terrible shot selection and there were times early it was really hurting his team and it needed to improve. Coach Miles addressed this issue (partly by giving him a quick hook at times) and for the most part his selection has gotten much better. I think almost everyone saw right away he was going to be key to our success this year. I think Coach Miles addressing this issue as soon as he did was crucial and it says something about Petteway's character in the positive way he has responded.

That's the way I remembered it as well.  And I think we all thought he would eventually settle in and he has.  Just took a little time for the guys to get used to playing together.  And, actually, I think part of the problem has been eliminated in other ways, as in eliminated himself.

Petteway will graduate from Nebraska. Could not see him leaving. Imagine how good he will be when he is a senior. Top 10 pick? He's only a SOPHOMORE now. Crazy

Technically he could graduate next year so hopefully he exhausts his eligibility for NU's sake.

Thanks for the update! We are glad Terran chose NU.  Looking forward to watching him tear it up the next few years.

Many were overblowing the situation back then.  Petteway was taking the same types of shots then as he is now, yet people thought he sucked for some reason.  He was good then, and he is good now.

well, you wanted more talent, you got it. and what comes with that talent. constant fretting about who stays and who doesn't. it's a good problem to have.

i actually don't think he'd declare this year anyway, because he really has some more work to do to prepare for the big guard position in the NBA.

i'm just glad we have the guy. he's carried this team all year.

I don't think anyone thought he sucked but I think there were legitimate concerns about the dynamic in which we were getting few assists per made shot and Petteway, no question about it, was taking some ill-advised shots.

If someone was to go back and review the posts as the season has progressed, there has been much commentary about how Terran has improved his shot selection.  It's not just a matter of making them.  It's a matter of not taking the bad ones.

I don't think this is a point that can even be argued.  I know you were one of the ones at the beginning of the year saying we need him on the floor as much as possible.  I was one who said I would call him out any time I saw selfish play.  But that concern evaporated pretty early in the season.  And I mean really early.  Like not much after the UMass game.  Like, IIRC, I don't think you were reading many if any complaints from about Creighton on.

So, this claim that people are suddenly realizing that Terran is a good player just because some website listed him as a potential 1st round NBA draft choice is a lot of myth IMO.

Dan Dakich completely ignored him in the POY conversation during the Ohio St./Iowa game last night. I yelled at my TV.

Well said, Norman.

All this "I told you so" stuff is ridiculous.

Being one of the best Husker players in the last 20 years <> 1st round NBA Draft pick.
