We were only outscored by 3 pts during the first 18.5 minutes against Ohio State.  We were outscored by 28 over the last 21.5 minutes.  That could be demoralizing, or a learning experience, or a rallying point.  So far this season ...

When we lost to UAB by 13, we came out the next game and beat Georgia by 8.

When we lost to Creighton by 15, we came out the next game and beat Arkansas St by 12.

When we lost to Cincinnati by 15, we came out the next game and closed to within 5 in the final minute at Iowa.

When we lost at Ohio State by 31, we came out the next game and beat Michigan by 10.

(Oooh, am I getting ahead of myself?  Just a little predicky-wicky.)

I actually think we could surprise Purdue in West Lafayette as well, although it's equally or more likely that we don't.  But that is not a team where I look at them and say we have no chance before we even set foot on their floor.  I think our next 6 are all winnable games save Ohio State at home.

I agree.. and Ohio State at home is a huge home test, but look at last year.  We nearly pulled that one off at home.  For once we may just have a place that we can actually have other players say... "man that was a pretty tough enviornment."

I wouldn't call it a test. It's extra credit.  We're not measuring ourselves against teams like that yet.

Well, Michigan is a test.  It's a test of our resolve to see how we (ok, I'm a very small part of "we" but my cheers contribute something to the home court environment so just work with me on this) see how WE respond.  If history is a guide, we'll bounce back and play hard rather than just fold.  Inexperience can produce losses; bouncing back is a sign of gaining maturity and experience from those losses.  I'm hoping/expecting to see us pass that test.

Yes, Michigan is a test.  A lot of that is because they're also not what they were last year.

The test is if we have some adversity, do we fight back like we did against Iowa, or sort of fold like we did against Ohio.  I am not really saying that in a negative light, it was a tale of two different teams though.  I hope we maintain the fighting spirit, that will certainly bode well in the long run.

Exactly.

Norm, I used to think of myself as the eternal Husker optimist; but compared to you I feel like a hater.

What happened after we lost to Umass by 6?  We got beat by a worse UAB team by 13.

After getting beat by Iowa by 10? We got be by 31.

We have only played good teams back to back twice and have lost all 4 games.

I'm not looking at how we responded to every loss.  I'm looking at how we responded when we lost badly.  UMass is a very good team.  We were in it until the final minute.  It's the UAB game where they had to feel like they let themselves down and they responded by digging in and scraping out a solid win against Georgia.

We didn't get embarrassed at Iowa.  If we hadn't nearly erased  that 20 pt deficit in the 2nd half, then, yeah.  But we had the ball down six with less than a minute left and had cut it to five earlier.  And on the road.  So we didn't get embarrassed there either.

I was strictly talking about how we responded to the games where the boys maybe felt like they'd let themselves down.  And, in those games, they've come back the next game and played reasonably well.

OPTIMISM ALERT:

Here's the brightside... we're 0-2 in B1G play, but we're still tied for 8th in the conference right now. Get a few wins and who knows... we could be in the middle of the pack.

Getting a W tonight would be a good start.  Tonight is a winnable game no doubt.
