Judging from what I just read in another thread, Miami runs a match up zone. That leads me to believe we'll want shooters on the court.  So I'm going with:

Biggs

Ray

Sheilds

Pitchford

Rivers

Biggs might have made an argument to break into the starting lineup.  Seems like Petteway is a guaranteed starter although I think he would be terrific at providing instant offense coming off the bench, which doesn't mean he wouldn't end up with 25 or more minutes in the end.  Just the spark that he would provide at an important time might make that a good role but I doubt it happens.  I'll say again before I get jumped on -- I doubt it happens.  So, Biggs, Webster, Petteway, Shields, Pitchford.

I don't think we can start things off with Rivers and Shields being our two biggest bigs on the floor.  Just my opinion.

Miami relies heavily on 2 bigs, one is a Pitchford-size guy and the other is a Leslee Smith-size guy, although Pitchford and Smith are bigger than their two bigs respectively.

Other than that, and a 5-9 PG, they play guys who are 6-6 to 6-7 all over the floor.  So, very similar to us, actually.  But with Miami playing zone, it puts a premium on our ability to shoot.  So, Biggs enters the starting lineup and Rivers leaves.

This will be an interesting game.  We go deeper than they do from what I can tell.  Our bigs are roughly evenly matched in size:  They have a shorter, stockier big in Kelly at 6'7" and 246# plus they have a taller, thinner guy in Kirk at 6'9" and 228#.  It'll be interesting to see if their bigs out-athlete ours or end up being more skilled.  Or maybe ours are more skilled and more athletic.  Size-wise, these teams are remarkably similar, down to the diminutive point guard coming off the bench (with theirs playing 27 minutes.)

Only question for us is the guards. Otherwise it's pretty standard Pitch, Shavon, Petteway (he's going to still get the most minutes, so get used to it). The other two, probably Gallegos and Tai. Biggs wouldn't leave us with a real point, otherwise he'd be fine.

This game is of vital importance for us to win, so I'm sure whatever lineup works best is going to be the one that gets the most minutes barring foul trouble.

I think he said something about how Biggs is better coming off the bench, so here is my list:

Webster

Gallegos

Petteway

Shields

Pitchford

Pretty much what everyone thought it would be at the very beginning of the year.

Funny thing about basketball.  Our returning leading scorer from a year ago is currently 7th on the team in scoring per game.  So, drop out the games he didn't play in and Gallegos average for the games he did play in is still 7th on the team.

The exigencies that required him to play a lot of minutes last year and shoot a lot of shots don't exist this year.  He won't play as many minutes, and he won't get as many touches.  The only way for him to produce the kind of points he accounted for last year is to hit at a much higher percentage than he did a year ago.  And he's proven in a couple of games so far that he's capable of doing that.

Hopefully the Miami game will be one of those nights.

How 'bout this line-up: Biggs, Petteway, Shields, Pitch & Smith. I know Smith said he doesn't want to start, but this big line-up is intriguing. Have Pitch & Smith work the low block, while the others slash and kick out for open looks. Don't be surprised if this is the starters we see tonight.

Well, one of the guys best-suited to get the kick-outs would be Ray Gallegos.  Given when Miles has said about Smith and Biggs being sparks coming off the bench, it almost seems like Tai, Gallegos, Petteway, Shields and Pitchford will see the floor first.  But who knows?  Miles?  Yeah, probably him and only a few others.  The rest of us will just have to wait and see.

Against this lineup it would be the most surprising to see Biggs start.

If he does, it means Miles wants to jump all over Miami to start this game.

I'd be surprised to see more than 5 minutes from Benny unless the game is a blowout.

Then, it's Biggs/Smith/Rivers

This is what I'm thinking....I wonder if Ray not having a great night the other night makes Miles think he should start Ray.  Ray started last year and more than likely would have this year without the suspension.  Some guys handle coming off the bench better than others and maybe Miles feels Ray needs to start to get him going quickly.  Biggs/Smith/Rivers/Parker have shown they can come off the bench and be productive.  Plus, whoever starts doesn't mean they get the most minutes.  Sometimes as a coach you may want to start one man over another but know it may affect the mental part of the guy that doesn't start.  Maybe Ray is one of those type of guys?

I'm pretty sure Ray will start tonight, for exactly the reason you said. I think Auroran's lineup is correct, but it's not really that drastically different, so I don't get why there's been such a big fuss about a new starting lineup tonight on Twitter and in the paper and whatnot. The only thing that would really catch my attention is if Petteway, Shields or Pitchford comes off the bench. Aside from that, we've already seen Deverell, Leslee, Benny, Tai and Ray come off the bench this season, so that's not that different.

With all of what everybody is saying.....isn't it kind of refreshing that we can have a lot of different options of guys starting/playing?  And who knows what Hawkins will bring to the table if he does play.  IF he keeps missing too many more games I would much rather see him take a RS.  He already has missed 7 games which is almost 25% of the season.  I don't think he's a go tonight.  So why play him?  Just my $0.02.  In fact, I would RS him for sure at this point.
