I can say this: Keep an eye on a midseason Division I transfer. Somebody that would fill the current vacant scholarship and would be eligible to play by the time NEXT Big Ten season starts.

 

Rosenthal said this exact thing last year, and we never ended up with a transfer. Not saying rosenthal knows nothing, but I won't believe it until i see it.

If we EVER had the inside track on those schools for a player, it would be on this occasion.  Obviously still not a slam dunk, but you have to like our chances here.

Too bad it'd only be for basically 1 1/2 semesters.  And that would be a really big senior class by that point.  Having said that, I'd still take him in a heartbeat.  You bet I would.  From tallest to shortest, that senior class (as of right now + Wittington) would look like this:

 

7-0  Vucetic

6-11 Pitchford

6-8  Wittington

6-7  Shields

6-6  Petteway

5-8  Parker 

 

And, let's say Tai Webster would decide to leave a year early to play professionally (somewhere, maybe overseas or something) that would he a HUMONGOUS hit to the roster.  Even if Webster leaves the next year or something, that would still be a huge hit to lose that many players all at once.

 

I think Miles needs to do something to level that all out.

If Whittington is Rosenthal's transfer, why are we waiting for the announcement? The guy has been dismissed from the Georgetown team and is available for other schools to consider, so there is no reason for secrecy or for being coy.

Also, Rosenthal seems to suggest that this transfer is a done deal and merely awaiting the appropriate time for announcement, while Whittington still appears to be looking at options.

I doubt it's a done deal and that's at least one reason not to mention his name.  Memphis also has a former G'Town coach and Whittington seems like an East Coast guy as he visited Rutgers and is from Maryland.

I think this could would walk on to campus and be our best player. Would he be eligable to play next year? Seems harsh to make the kid sit out this whole year w/ the knee injury & next year? If eligable next year, he could join our strong junior class (Shields, Petteway, Pitchford) and help us make a run at the dance the next two years while Miles infuses the program with young talent.

He states that he wants to get out of the east coast area. I like that we have ties to him already and Hunter has already been out to visit him. I think it will come down to us and Memphis. I'm guessing we will know by early January at the latest where he goes.

Whittington is a 3, maybe stretch 2.  Shields would play the 4.

Semantics. The motion is free flowing and interchangeable. We could go 3 out 2 in or 4 out 1 in with even Petteway working the post depending on matchups. Or we could go 5 out 0 in and work the dribble drive/kick game. I would suspect that our starting 5 would go Whittington, Pitchford, Shields, Petteway, Webster.
