And if I was his dad, I would have told him, "Tim, listen, you're not going on any vacation until you get your assistant coach hired."

 

And then he would have said, "Aw, dad, how 'bout if I get at least 3 interviews done?"

 

And then I would have said, "No, listen, you've been putting it off and putting it off.  Hire someone or no vacation."

 

And then he would have said, "But I'm still waiting to hear back from probably a couple of guys I'm still wanting to interview.  How about if I get the player development guy hired first."

 

And then I would have said, "No, no, no.  I'm not here to bargain with you.  I said hire an assistant or don't go on vacation.  It's that simple." 

 

And then he would have said, "So, I'm just supposed to go out and hire someone, anyone, no matter how bad they are for the team or the program and bring them in just so I can go on vacation?"

 

And then I would have said, "No, obviously I don't expect you to go out and hire someone bad.  But tell me what you've done to try to find someone since Ben left."

 

And then he would have said, "We've put out feelers.  Our people have been contacting their people, guaging interest, getting names, vetting them.  This is a process.  I want the right guy.  This is important.  Not something to rush just so I can go on vacation."

 

And then I would have said, "Fine, is your room clean at least?"

 

And then he would have said, "I vacuumed it last night and I just need to put my dirty clothes in the laundry basket."

 

And then I would have said, "Fine.  Go the hell on vacation.  But if you don't have an assistant coach hired by next season, don't come whining to me."
