  1. 1. For us old farts, do you think we'd have reacted this negatively to a tunnel walk song in the 80s by, say, Elvis?

    • I'm a kid and you blue hairs (and no hairs) are totes totes cray cray. Bon Jovi? I'm, like, whatevs.

    • I'm an old fart and I don't think an Elvis intro would have bothered me like these kids these days whining about Jon Bon Whoosits.

    • I'm an old fart and these kids these days have no idea what good music really is. Bon Jovi RULES!

    • I'm a kid and I'm down with Bon Jovi. Or David Archuleta. Either way.

    • Yes, we would have been pissed if they'd hauled at an aging rocker like Mick Jagger to do an intro for us back in the day.

    • Good gawd yes!

    • Every time I hear it I feel as though my ears have been violated.

    • I can put up with a lot from Marc Boehm, but if he does a basketball intro set to rap "music" I'll have his head. On a pike.

I don't get the Bon Jovi hostility.  Is this a youth thing?  Reading the poll comments and the references to the new music intro on the other thread, it sound like young folk will just hate a song by Bon Jovi for the basketball tunnel walk.  Is it because it's Bon Jovi?  Because he's 40 something?

By the way, "Out of Touch" is a classic Hall and Oates number.

Mostly I listen to it if I have to take one of my son's cars. They listen to it some rap, and I don't know how to go to radio on their radios. So I either listen to their cd that is in or just turn it off. Hate driving and it is quiet so...

I think that the intro music as important to the players as it is crowd.  It's their game- they should get to decide what pumps them up. I don't mind rap/ hip hop if the song fits the subject matter.  IMO the Bon Jovi song is a buzz kill.

Whats the point of doing a poll for rap music if every response is negative?

As far as the Elvis question, comparing Elvis to Bon Jovi is like comparing 2Pac to Puff Daddy.

No.  Actually, comparing 2Pac to Puff Daddy is like comparing Quantum Physics with Myasthenia Gravis.

(I've heard of both but I don't really know anything about either.)

In an effort to be "helpful," I pulled up on the internet what appears to be a current list of "Most Popular Songs." So, based on title, alone, (i.e., I didn't actually listen to any or look up the lyrics) here are some possibilities:

Royals by Lorde (but too much like the old baseball team in Omaha)

Roar by Katy Perry

Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus (the new Tim Miles nickname)

Hold On, We're Going Home by Drake

Applause by Lady Gaga--or maybe her "I Was Born This Way" or the one that mentions her Nebraska guy

Berzerk by Eminem

We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus (sorry about Miley twice)

That's My Kind of Night by Luke Bryan

Get Lucky by Daft Punk

Treasure by Bruno Mars

Cups by Anna Kendrick (seems like such a supportive song)

It Goes Like This by Thomas Rhett

Night Train by Jason Aldean

Demons by Imagine Dragons

Can't Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Redneck Crazy by Tyler Farr (for the games when "Git 'er Done" shows up)

Just Give Me a Reason by Pink

Give it 2 U by Robin Thicke

Or maybe one by Taylor Swift--perhaps the one about never getting back together . . . ever.

It should be The Blueprint by Jay-Z. Not only does it sample theme from "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" but it speaks to the "Blueprint" of success we're layin' down, and the kids will dig it.

I went to you tube to listen to the blueprint and was offended in the first 30 seconds of the song with the use of the N word and then again about 20 seconds later. Not a good song IMO.

Talking about rap as a music style is like talking about rock. Moterhead, Taylor Swift, the Stones. ACDC, and I suppose even Miley Cyrus could all qualify as rock. Rap is just as varied. Just like you might think JBJ sucks but State Radio is all that, Maybe Tyga ain't your thing but you could like Macklemore. Personally I'm down with the old school PE & KRS1

I am an old fart who will probably never get the opportunity to visit your wonderful arena, but choosing Lorde's  "Royal" would be cool because she is a Kiwi. Plus the lyrics are reasonably intelligent. When push comes to shove though, playing good solid rock songs as an intro will do the trick for everyone. Australian Rugby League had Tina Turner's "Simply the Best"  as their theme song at the end of  80's which worked a treat with all ages
