Am I just old and cynical or is this draft terrible? Noel was not that good before he got hurt and is projected as number one. McLemore disappeared from the KU lineup for extended periods. Len is hurt and looked like a ton of other bench riding 7 footers when I watched Maryland. Trey was great against KU but his physical tools can be matched against many others not even in the NBA. Will he be able to be a leader there with a team of veteran players? The list goes on..

i believe the only  players in this draft that will be all stars are Oladipo from Indiana, and McCollum from Lehigh. Recently i heard the B.S. report with Bill Simmons and Chad Ford, and i have to agree with them that after 12 its gonna be a crap shoot, and a lot of euro players that will be stashed abroad. The second round will be the same.

Oladipo and Otto, otherwise I dunno.

Noel= shorter version of Thabeet.  If Shabazz really does fall into the 20's I think some team gets a steal. I like him a lot more than I like some of the other projected top 10 players.

Boring draft for sure.

It might have been a good year for McDermott to come out but sounds like he was projected as late 1st round or 2nd round pick.  That is surprising considering the group this year.

Well, I for one am glad he came back.  ;)

I'm hoping Echenique can sneak into the second round.  He's had a lot of workouts (12 at last count) and has been getting some pub as the highest rising player that wasn't even on the grid previously.

Of course there is more to basketball than athletic ability but this year's group is the most athletic in testing in the history if the draft combine. Cody Zeller's numbers crushes what Dwight Howard put up at the.combine. I think there are some people in this year's group that are going to surprise a lot of people.

Miles talking about Iverson:

Tim Miles, Nebraska basketball coach: “We first started scouting Colton when he was 16 (while Miles coached at North Dakota State and Iverson was playing high school hoops in Yankton, S.D.) ... I remember the impact of the first practice we had him in at CSU. Just to see what he brought to our program and the possibility was so exciting. We knew he was going to be special. I remember telling him, ‘you have a real chance to be an NBA player, but here are some things you have to develop and some things you have to do.’ Colton worked. He was willing to. He wasn’t satisfied with his progress, and I think that was a big thing key for him coming to CSU — he trusted the coaches.

“I remember being on a flight, emailing back and forth with Niko (Medved) about the game plan to recruit Colton. He came in town (for a visit) and I told Niko, “go get him.” We really wanted him. He’s such a good kid. I was just talking to him Monday night, Yankton, S.D., is only two hours from here (Lincoln, Neb.) and I was thinking about driving up and getting him lunch, but I think he has enough going on this week, if you know what I mean.”

ive said it before, his production for the bluejays merits a summer league look, and maybe a d-league tryout, similar to Maric, and Anderson for NU but no draft picks, i just didnt see it. i dont see how he fits in today's NBA, with the exception of a Memphis, maybe Orlando, maybe miami gives him a call as a free agent and they develop him.

He's a defensive stopper.  Creighton never double teamed a center all year because Echenique could handle them all by himself.  He even shut down Duke's big man...  IF he gets drafted it will be because of his defense.

Yeah, I don't think he'll make it to the first.  ;)

You do understand that there are only two rounds, right?

Unlike previous drafts, there are no real superstars, e.g. players who could immediately take a lottery team into the playoffs (think Lebron, Duncan, Shaq).  Probably the closest talent is Ben McLamore but he is a bit too  . . . soft maybe.  I talked to some of my Kentucky friends who felt Noel really progressed as the season wore on, but have reservations because of his injury (naturally so).  Most people forget Alex Lenn dominated Noel early in the season.

Porter and Olapido  are considered the most ready-to-play guys coming in.  Porter though seems like a great complimentary guy (Scottie Pippen possibly) while Olapido is a bit "undersized"  (a 6'5" SG is undersized now I guess) and needs more time developing his offensive game.  Both are considered fantastic defenders though and can move the ball around.

Many compare Bennett out of UNLV as a Larry Johnson tweener type player; however, I think people forget Johnson's defensive game.  Johnson matched up against Tim Duncan in the '99 NBA finals as well as possible considering he was giving up about 6".  I am not sure Bennett's defense is on that level.

I do see a lot of good complementary players.  Outside of Porter, a lot of the top 50 guys seem to do one or two things well and simply need more time to develop.  The number of defensive minded players has increased in this draft which is a big deal in the NBA.  Teams are more willing to draft a solid defensive player beyond the top ten than an offensive specialist (think K. Leonard with the Spurs, Avery Bradley with the Celtics).  If the kid can do one or two things offensively (rebounding, passing, three point shooting) even better.

Sadly, with the exception of the Washington Wizards (who are really 1-2 players away from being a playoff mainstay, if they got both Porter and Bennett, they could be good), the top 7 teams need that superstar player.  Cleveland needs another star to line up with Kyrie.  Orlando is simply a reclamation project.  Charlotte . . . do I really need to say more?  Phoenix is in ashes.  Sacramento and New Orleans have unrealized potential that may not mature or succumb to injuries (not to mention a ton of wasted draft picks by Sacramento).

Other than Toronto and Milwaukee, I think the remaining  teams in the lottery (Detroit, Portland, Utah, Dallas, and Minnesota) could be playoff caliber next season with the players potentially available.  Portland (depth), Utah (point guard), Dallas, and Minnesota (injuries) would not need the draft to compete for playoff spots (Dallas will definitely address most, if not all, of its issues via free agency).

i can only see him in the mold of a Darrel Arthur from Kansas who now plays for the grizz at best, or at his worst maybe othella harrington from gtown who just bounced around. He can defend the NBA's 4 of this generation, and i guess given how little the 5's he could be decent at best, but against centers of Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan, Joakin Noah, or even Marcin Gortat i dont think he can defend them. I feel like his ceiling is 8 or 9th guy who can provide 6 fouls and a big body. No if he was born a decade earlier i feel like he could be very valuable in the 90's and early 2000's
