Miles is taking his time. Really important decision and he wants to make sure it's the right move. He has several candidates and has them divided into groups. Safe, veteran guys. Young up and coming assistants. And high risk but potentially high reward guys. I'm assuming that last group would be the AAU coach route. An assistant that wouldn't bring as much to the table on the coaching side of things because they are just trying to break into the field, but has connections that could potentially land a stud recruit or two. This is the high risk route because those recruits aren't guaranteed to come just because you hired their AAU coach and you only have a short time capitalize here. Within a 2-3 year span (assuming the coach stays this long, Miles has been burned by this before, see Chin) all of their direct connections to players they know personally on the AAU scene are probably burned out. Then if the recruits don't come, you've got a marginal coach sitting on the bench when you could have had the high quality coach sitting there.

How important is the recruiting area of an assistant?

Do you mean does it matter which area the assistant we end up with has his connections in? Or in general? Either way it is extremely important. Hopefully Miles' guy has extremely strong connections in an area within the B1G footprint.

What was the name of Nee's primary recruiter in the 90s, the name slipped from my mind.

Williams

IIRC, Jimmy Williams has himself in hot water with the NCAA....

Lol, did not know that.  Nevermind then.

Its huge for a school that has struggled to bring in talent for many decades.

TheKamdyMan thinks a snail could have recruited S Mohamed to UCLA because his father wanted him to play there.  All the NU staff has do do is find a probable NBA first rould pick whose father wants him to play for Nebraska and then send a snail to sign him up.  Our luck would be the kid is probably be like most kids who seldom listen to their parents and would end up playing somewhere else.  Buying a snail is a lot cheaper than an ast coach's salary.

I don't think so.  I think he thinks he's being serious.

At any event, I question his loyalty to the hoops program:

Oh man he is definitely a troll.

I really don't agree with the post you and some others here referred to as a "troll," but I also don't understand why anyone who comes on here and vents frustration over what was unfortunately a very unproductive late period of recruiting for Nebraska gets labeled a troll. The poster conveyed his opinion in a way that folks obviously didn't care for, but that doesn't necessarily make him a troll. He could just be frustrated and concerned and failed to express it in the best way.

Dissenting, frustrated opinions don't always equate to trolls. Posts like his are too frequently dismissed on this site. If you disagree with what he said, then explain why. Dismissing dissenting opinions as "trolls" is lazy and frequently inaccurate.

when someone has posted 13 times and all 13 are in this manner, THAT is a troll.  Youre taking one post as an example instead of all 13 that are of the same manner.

He sued the U of M when Tubby Smith offered him a job and the AD made him re-sind it due to Williams prior stint under Jim Dutcher (agreed by all as a low point for the program)  He was awarded 1.2 million for lost wages.  Any violations were well before his first coaching job at Nebraska.  If there is something new then it is not common knowledge.

Went to the MN Supreme Court, they sided with the UofM. Williams will not be gettting a cent.

Right, but there is no new NCAA Violation, and therefore no reason for him not to work at Nebraska again.   Just trying to briefly review why his name has been bandied about in the media recently.

By BRIAN ROSENTHAL / Lincoln Journal Star:

Wright State assistant coach Chris Moore, who recruited current Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried to Morehead State, has interviewed for Nebraska’s vacant men’s basketball assistant coaching position.

A source close to Moore told the Journal Star that Moore was in Lincoln on Saturday to formally interview with second-year NU coach Tim Miles, who’s looking to replace Ben Johnson, now at Minnesota.

Miles, in Las Vegas on Sunday for a golf function, stood firm on his stance on coaching searches, saying he’s not naming or confirming candidates.

Miles, however, did say he’s interviewing a final candidate on Wednesday, and could have an announcement of a hire later this week.

The source with knowledge of Moore’s interview said Miles decided on bringing three finalists to Lincoln.

Moore, who has more than 20 years of coaching experience, has spent the last three seasons at Wright State. He’d spent the previous four seasons at Morehead State, where he coordinated recruiting and helped land two classes ranked among the nation’s top 40.

That included Faried, who was the two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and an All-American in 2011, when No. 13 Morehead State upset No. 4 seed Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.

Moore has also been a men’s assistant coach at Bellarmine University, Indiana-Southeast University and a women’s assistant coach at Cincinnati.

Moore was a three-year letterman at Kentucky State University and graduated in 1991. He earned a master’s degree from Louisville in 2000.

If Moore can help sign 2 top 40 classes to Morehead St, then I think he can probably do some damage recruiting to Nebraska's upgraded facilities and the Big Ten conference.
