From the Salt Lake paper...

SLCC coach Todd Phillips told me Thursday afternoon that Tummala has not decided on a school yet, but that BYU is still in the mix. Phillips said Tummala will take another week or two to make the decision and has until the signing period ends in mid-May to make his choice.

Tummala had about 15 offers at the end of SLCC's regular season, and narrowed his choices to BYU, Santa Clara, Nebraska and Georgia. The excellent student who wants to go to medical school visited Ivy League schools Penn and Brown earlier in the season, but has decided he wants to play for a higher-profile program.

However, Tummala played well at nationals in Kansas, and his recruitment "has kinda blown up" since then, Phillips said.

His hometown school, Arizona State, has jumped into the picture with an offer, as has Minnesota under new coach Richard Pitino. He recently visited Nebraska, which has turned up its interest, and will visit Georgia in the next week or so.

Phillips said BYU was probably the frontrunner a month ago, but things have obviously changed.

Don't forget the next section:

Tummala is not LDS but would not have trouble living the BYU Honor Code, Phillips said, but noted that "it is going to be hard for him to say no to ASU because he basically grew up right down the street from that school."

That part makes me nervous.

Interesting how Minnesota has just jumped into the picture with an offer...

Was Johnson Sai's lead recruiter?

No. But Im sure that he still had plenty of contact with him while he was at Nebraska and you know that he is the coach on that new Minnesota staff that was pushing to offer him.

I feel good about beating out Georgia because I think Sai is too smart of a kid to fall for the $EC.

The University of Minnesota has a top notch medical school if this has an influence on his decision. Their medical school is ranked well ahead of UNMC in both the primary care and research categories. Who knows if this will play into his decision because he can apply to wherever he wishes after he completes undergrad but it certainly gives him an in if he attends te school.

UNMC is ranked 6th in primary care, Minnesota 7th, just throwing that out there

I think basketball is the main focus for Sai. He has worked his butt off to get 15 D1 offers when he had none coming out of high school. He walked on at Michigan when he easily could have given up basketball to focus only on his medical career. Minnesota is basically throwing in the towel for next season, so I don't know why he'd want to go there. I would say with all the players leaving for the draft in the B1G, we should at least be expecting around 18 wins and 20 in 2014.

Only Michigan and Indiana are affected by early entrants and not sure if you notice but both are bringing in a top 5 or 6 class in the country.  The B1G hasnt really gone down but reloaded for the past 5 years.  Expecting that many wins is sipping a lot of red kool-aid.

(Bolded part) I'm pretty sure Norm called this one like a month ago... I think he may have even used the exact words about his recruitment "blowing up".  Nice work

I don't at all think that expecting that many wins next season is sipping a lot of red kool-aid.  Looking at this season, if Nebraska doesn't lose to Kent St and UTEP then they would only be 1 game away from 18 wins.  I don't think that it is ridiculous to think the turnover next season could get Nebraska 1 more win out of the rest of the schedule.

Especially considering that Creighton’s roster is taking a HUGE hit losing Doug McDermott (2-time AP All American), Gregory Echenique, Grant Gibbs, and Nevin Johnson (Headliner of their 2011 class which was dubbed by some Creighton fans and some Creighton writers to be the 'Fab-four'). (That's if McDermott goes to the NBA, which I think he will.)

Douggie McD hasnt declared yet and a lot of places still have him in the second round.  I just think with a tougher schedule with tournaments and adding more high B1G teams for two games instead of 1, and a huge overhaul with the team will take some adjustments.  I will also admit my reading comprehension tends to lack when i read at work and thought he said 18 or 20 for next year since the season would end in 2014, but now realize he meant the season starting in 2014.

Thomas leaving early for OSU is significant too and Illinois and Minnesota lose a TON to graduation.  Big Ten will be talented next year, no doubt, but it won't be as strong as it was last year.  If NU can keep their home and home with those two schools, that would probably be beneficial to the Huskers.

I suppose he could go to AZ st on his own dime if he is visiting home in AZ, but I would say it is us or Georgia. I feel good about beating out Georgia because I think Sai is too smart of a kid to fall for the $EC.

Sure, but if he grew up down the street from ASU and has been in Salt Lake the past year, it's not like he needs to take an official to know what he needs to know about those programs.  I would caution ruling out either of those two schools just because he's not taking officials to either one.

If he was set on staying on the west coast, I doubt he would be taking visits to Nebraska and Georgia. B1G and SEC are better basketball conferences than the MW and PAC12. I think Sai wants to play in the best conference. We are in the best conference of the 4, and we have the advantage of playing against his former team.

Sai Tummala's JUCO coach is quoted as follows: "Phillips . . . noted that 'it is going to be hard for him [sai] to say no to ASU because he basically grew up right down the street from that school.'"

NIT should not be unrealistic when you bring in up to 9 new faces  (assuming we get Sai and Herbert) mixed with 3 of the top 5 scorers from last year.

I don't expect us to be at our best until year 3 or 4, but there is no reason we should not be at least 1 game better than last year.

I'm not so sure the SEC is better than the MW and PCA12.  Equal, okay.  But not better.
