As strange as it may sound I wasn't frustrated with how things were going in 1st half even though UW couldn't miss a 3. We couldn't get closer than 10 but they couldn't expand lead to more than 13 it seemed. And the last 4-5 minutes they started to resemble more of who they are. And speaking of 3's I did some research and found that Indiana St. went 12-12 from 3 pt range in February of 2012 and appears to be only time a division 1 team has shot 100% from 3. Troy attempted 74 3's in December of 1994 for most attempts. They also made a record 28 and are tied with Wyoming who made 28 in November of 2021 against Nebraska's very own Hastings College.

Juwan came out very aggressive in 2nd half after being a limited due to picking up 2 1st half fouls. I thought he keyed the 12-2 run to open the 2nd.

Noticed that Brice used a ball fake very effectively to get open shots/drives a few times.

Liked that Sam looked to score when he drove rather than looking to pass. Helped that it stayed 1 on 1 as help D never

showed.

Was anyone else thinking after not getting any points after UW flagrant that the lead could slip away?

Really enjoyed the big lead late and went to sleep happy.

I felt the same way, I knew that eventually UW wasn't going to be perfect from the land of plenty. And I figured that Fred would light 'em up at halftime and the team would respond accordingly to open the 2nd half. Nebraska is a much better unit than the Huskies, and the 2nd half was a master class on how to exploit the weaknesses of UW this season. UW may have won the early battles in this ballgame, but it was the Huskers who won the war. GBR

Cutting into that lead so quickly to start the second half did as much to inflate our guys as it did to deflate theirs. From that point on you could just tell that we were the hunters and UW was always on their heels. They started to force a few bad looks, rush shots, overthink and pass/dribble out of open looks, etc.

For all of the faults our D philosophy may have, one thing it absolutely feeds off of is indecision. When teams overthink whether to pass, shoot, or dribble… even for just a second… the rotations are already there and you have to set up a whole new skip around.

Also— I know there were a few grumblings about Sam starting and that if he was starting on a Big 10 team…. Yada.

That dude has absolutely earned a starting role and is as confident as ever right now on O and D and is also playing well. He’s averaging 36 MPG during the past 4 games and his stats are perfect for a role/glue guy.

4.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 2 Assists/game, 1 steal/game, 100% FT, 40% FG, 37.5% 3Pt,

but the biggest one for me?

0.75 TO/game

He’s shooting fine, taking care of the ball, and playing confidently. He’s earned that starting spot. I believe he presents enough of a threat that he needs guarded but also one that will hurt you if you sag off him. This has allowed Rollie to blossom off the bench and be much more effective I think.

May be an image of basketball and text

Berke and Wilhelm make the Big Ten Men's Basketball social media post. A rare Breidenbach sighting tonight, he only played 7 min. despite starting. lol

Had you not posted this photo, I'd have forgotten that Wilhelm went to play for them.

At a time out, the PA announcers had a contest to boo or cheer images on the scoreboard; mascots and the like.  The last two were Seattle Pro teams and then the screen showed "oops, Nebraska does not have pro teams.

I yelled that we had pro volleyball 🏐🤪

There are two Pro Volleyball teams in Omaha now, I believe. Omaha Supernovas and LOVB Omaha.  From what I also heard on the radio yesterday...the Husker Women's Volleyball team was the only women's team of any college sport to actually make a profit. https://www.huskersillustrated.com/volleyball/stories/volleyball-shows-1-3m-in-profit-for-fiscal-2024/article_708cc20c-d37e-11ef-824a-13cea4d78310.html

Simply put, Meah and Ulis have mostly been eliminated from the rotation and most of those minutes have gone to Sam. It's more complex than that game to game, but that's the simple take.

We were mostly there, but functionally we've moved mostly towards just playing one big at a time (Berke/Morgan/Meah)

Unless there is foul trouble, Brice and Juwan are out there at the 3 and 4 all game.

For the last 3 games, Sam has been out there all game at what I'll call the "point guard guarder" as he isn't a PG per say though you've finally seen him take on that role at times.

Thus Rollie and Connor are in a timeshare for "guard".  When Juwan was out with foul trouble last game you could say that Rollie was in at PF if you wanted to.

If you count up the bolded names, you'll find that we're at a seven man rotation.

As long as we are talking about defensive issues, the thing that drives me crazy, beyond anything else we do (and probably to an unhealthy degree) is seeing Meah, who is a 7'1" giant, constantly JUMPING at every pump fake or shot attempt or close out, over and over and over again.  Even when it's a guard who penetrates into the lane Meah will jump in trying to block him.   Dude!  Just stop jumping.  Meah should never jump on the defensive end.  Ever! Just stand with two hands up and make the offense player shoot over you.  Good grief.  Do the coaches coach him at all, or is he simply incorrigible?

After just two games it was clear that Meah was not the answer and I am glad the coaches are finally in agreement by taking him out the starting lineup and reducing his playing time.  BTW, this is a good lesson.  For YEARS people on this board and casual Husker fans have been clamoring for a true big man.  Well, be careful what you wish for.  There is reason the traditional big man has largely gone the way of the dodo.  Players who can't dribble, pass or shoot, and can't defend the pick'n roll are liabilities in today's game, even at 7'1".  And players who are 7'1" and CAN dribble, pass and shoot are extremely rare and sure as heck aren't coming to DONU.

Would Nebraska have beaten Creighton without him?

Kent's interview with Rich King

Cipsucks should do a contest, with the question being what was the license plate number on Rich King's Firebird.  (If you were on campus at the time, you should know it, he drove that thing around a hell of a lot.)

Coming out of halftime, here were the possessions:

  1. Berke layup
  2. Juwan block
  3. Sam layup
  4. Washington scores
  5. Brice dunk
  6. Washington stop
  7. Washington turnover
  8. Juwan layup
  9. Washington turnover
  10. Juwan dunk
  11. Washington Timeout

Stops on 3/4 possessions and scores on 5/6 possessions (all at the rim). Pretty pretty pretty good!

Nope.  He played Kalkbrenner perfectly, which allowed us to swarm the shooters on the perimeter.  For all of Kalkbrenner’s strengths, being a traditional low post scoring threat isn’t one of them.  Meah being strong enough to handle him one on one was key.

I’m guessing, though, that Meah’s minutes going forward is based purely on matchups.  Our 7 man rotation is pretty locked in it seems, and i don’t disagree with it one bit.  This appears to be our best lineup.
