and we will have more. Having watched her video I am similarly impressed with Amiah Hargrove.   And we will have Weidner back.  The Huskers do need a C/F for the post Markowski years

True but to move up to the top level we need players who can get to the rim and finish.  Weidner can, if fully recovered, get to the rim.  We need a goal defending post player.

Coach Williams need to contact whoever controls the purse strings for a NIL deal and buy a big time  post player who can score and defend.  It would be a shame to waste getting a player like Prince and not have a big time post player.  You have to have both a super guard and post.  You can probably get by with average players filling the other positions.  We need some rich person who loves N U women's basketball and wants to take it to the next level.  Unfortunately I love women's bb but am not a rich guy.

I find myself being Mr. Buzz Kill with what follows .... but I am convinced that this is the way it is.

"Big time post players who can score and defend" ... Those are hard to find and demand for them far exceeds supply. AM is a fantastic asset to this program not only in ability and production, but in character, work ethic, and leadership. Her ability to convert under the basket possessions into points is getting better and better.  But she lacks the length, the quickness and the hops to be considered big time.  Players who have all that don't have programs like ours on their short list.  They want to play for national championships and get on the pathway to WNBA.  If there were a daughter of the corn - a native Nebraskan with those abilities (like an A'ja Wilson version of Britt Prince), she might stay here, but otherwise those players are out of UNL's reach.

"players who can get to the rim and finish"  .... Potts can and will get better with practice, physical maturity, and experience.  AW can. BP, while not physically intimidating, has the speed to get there thru traffic, and I have hope for Hargrove in that department.

"to take it to the next level" .... If the "next level" means consistently winning the winnable games, pulling the occasional upset of teams rated above us, regularly putting a quality product on the floor, finishing in the top fourth of the conference, and regularly getting to the tournament ... and doing all that with pride, sportsmanship, and character ..... we are on our way!  It has taken some years, but that is the path that Williams and her staff have put us on.

but (and here is the buzz kill)

"to move up to the top level" .... If "the top level" means being a perennial top ten team, getting to the elite eight, being competitive with the UConn's, Stanfords, and SoCars, and consistently having players advance to WNBA .... it's just not going to happen here. UNL just lacks the foundational base to bring that off.

I'd love to be wrong on that last point.

I too think competing for B1G championships is doable.   Not remotely easy, but possible.

If Amy is ever going to rise to the top, the next couple of years is an opportunity.  Players like Prince don't happen often. If she can recruit at a higher level, now is the time to show it. If her assistants can 'up' their games, show it.  The entire staff needs to take it up a notch. Our athletic department is supposed to be supported by one of the better NIL organizations.  Time to show it.  OR, maybe middle of the pack, some years a bit higher. is acceptable to Trev and the bulk of the fan base.  I haven't a clue.  But, I will be cheering them on!

You get the right coach which we all know is doable at Nebraska. I think would be the first step in going to the next level. Love Amy but her style of play will never be good enough for the B1G or good enough to bring in better talent sadly.

I don't know that getting a markedly better coach is doable at Nebraska  And I doubt it.  Where was this better coach when Williams was hired, and who would this better coach be now?  Finding an alumnus ala Kim Mulkey or someone with a Husker connection like Fred Hoiberg or tempting away a rising star from far away is a huge long shot.  Take that leap of faith and we risk having to start all over - quite possibly with an exodus of the existing talent and loss of the incoming recruits.  Let's think back to Steve Pederson's forty days of nothingness after having fired a 9-3 Frank Solich, the national disdain that followed for having fired a successful coach, the desperate Callahan gambit at the end of those 40 days, and the parade of failed coaches that followed.  No thanks to a re-play of that.

My 2 cents: Is Amy a good coach? Sure.
Is she a GREAT coach? Nope. Sorry, but she’s not; her career numbers just don’t bear it out.

Do we fire a good coach in an attempt to lure a great coach? I don’t know. That decision is above my pay grade. I do know that we could part ways with Amy and there would be a chance that the next coach wouldn’t do any better than Amy and could possibly do worse.

I think Trev is better at his job than Pederson, Eichorst (fired Yori, hired Amy), or Moos. Not sure why you would think Nebraska isn't an attractive job for a top shelf WBB head coach.  They play in the B1G.  As mentioned above, with the addition of the new schools, they will be among the elite WBB conferences (maybe the best).  With a supportive AD and devoted fanbase, the sky is the limit.

I'm not seeing anyone posting 'Fire Amy Now'.  I'm not advocating fire Amy now.  I'm hoping she rises to the challenge.  But, if she doesn't, Trev will have options.

Boy it's sure hard to keep you guys happy.  Presently in 3rd place in the league.  Two really good road wins.  A win over Maryland at home for the first time ever.  One conference loss to a really hot and veteran Indiana team.  We have Improved recruiting.  Maybe if we were at over rated Illinois we could bitch about our coach.  They have parlayed last years win over Iowa into convincing people including the media that they are good.

Great coaches would have listened to us after Yori, but  Shawn Eikhorst was our AD.  End of story

Amy and staff need to keep bringing in talent like Potts, and Prince. Now the trick is too keep them happy so they want to stay here. Look at Maryland, have they ever started conference play at 2-2? They have had a lot of turn over and it finally is catching up to them. Brenda has a NC on her resume and I would bet there are more than a few unhappy with this years team.  Sports has become a what have you done for me lately. Don't win enough or win the games you should and you can easily be looking for a job. Glad I am not a coach.

The forum is designed for opinions.  Some are more critical than others.  Regarding being critical, the quotes below are yours, just a few games ago.  And, I agreed with your posts.

"What the hell isn going on with Williams substitutions.  I have never seen such bullshit in my life."

"This was one of the most ill prepared games that I have seen us play.  That's on Amy."

Can't stay out of this discussion.....and yes it's just a forum discussion. But some peoples feelings do get hurt if someone doesn't agree. Not unusual in any public forum...with internet keyboard pounders especially.

Agree with most of what everyone has said for the most part.....with some minor exceptions. Lots of stuff has happened via AD's etc. over the last few years

For me, just hope for a better than 500 record, year after year. We just haven't done so CONSITENTLY, let alone substantial improvement for quite a while.  (not asking for substantial change at all, not my decision to make by any stretch of the imagination)  ....I look at the bigger picture

It's a matter, I guess,  of what one accepts as appropriate, from a teams overall representation of UNL.  Have felt the same about football,  men's basketball, baseball, etc etc

Glad you brought that up.  I don't have a problem with criticism of the coach for certain specific things like substitution, lack of calling timeouts etc.  That is a lot different then calling for a different coach.

Agree.  Would you identify which posts in this thread are calling for the removal of Amy Williams?   "Sure hard to keep you guys happy" or "you guys just like to bitch"  type comments are painted with such a broad brush, one doesn't know who they are aimed at.  If I post an opinion you don't agree (I'm sure I often do), please reply to me.  I'm OK with that.
