@Norm Peterson

This generally works depending on how guys pan out from their HS rankings.  Guys like Keon Edwards inflate your talent number and guys like Allick and Mast are going to outperform their HS rankings.

does the talent column have any correlation to teams pre season projections?

Louisville ranks #3 overall in talent but clocks in at 135. Syracuse is at #5 but is ranked 186.

On the other side, Duquesne clocks in with 0 talent but is ranked #56.

The driving force for these rankings are where you finished last season and the factors listed such as talent, transfers, etc either push you up or down from that initial ranking.

This is going to be an interesting season.  I guess it will start with the upcoming trip and practices; but I am of the opinion that competition for playing time, let alone starting positions will last into the early games of the season.

Now, ask yourselves, and ask your friends and neighbors, is the competition because we do not yet have elite/standout talent that provides separation from their teammates; or is because we have a good players with significant depth; but no real superstars or NBA level talent?

I personally believe we do not have elite talent.  We have depth, and that depth can do a lot of things that can help us improve.  I think that is a good thing...IF we play as a team, play unselfishly, play hard, have good leadership,  maintain a strong culture with high character and effort.

I do look at the talent  coming back and coming in within our league.  We can be better and still not make progress with a significant number of additional wins.  BUT, we can win a few that we let get away from us last year, and that may earn us a dance card.

My rose-colored glasses are not yet back on, but they are close by.

If I asked friends and neighbors that question, I'd get a glazed look in their eyes followed by a 911 call.  🙂

Per this ranking system not only is our roster projected to be better but it's better in part because of the guys who transferred out.

Yep. The guys who left were at the bottom end of the roster and were unlikely to make a move. And we kept the most important guys who didn't graduate AND added some good pieces in the portal. With still a shot at one or two REALLY good pieces.

Trip is HUGE this year because it always takes about six games for the guys to get in synch with each other (or, if you're a Creighton fan, "get in sink with each other.") It takes a certain number of games for the players to figure out where the points are going to come from and who the leaders on the team are going to be.

How do all the moving parts fit together? The guys won't have a feel for that until they play some games together. There's generally an adjustment period and it will be nice if some of that adjustment period occurs overseas when the games don't count.

I’d rather have several GOOD Players, which I think we do, rather than 1-2 Stars ⭐️ & a bunch of Bums. Like you said I expect a very different Starting 5 once we hit B1G play & we can see which players mesh after that Non-Con schedule.

given that this team eventually picked up their erformance n the back half/third of the season, it'll likely come down to how much of that momentum transfers to the early going of this campaign.

i haven't been bullish on a single Hoiberg team yet, and this one won''t be an exception. I think it'll be a bottom half team again. But I do think they'll be  bit better than last season, althugh that bar was pretty low.

I'll be thrilled if they finish in a single digit place in the league.

Yeah...let's not forget this kid.  I still think he will be our starting point guard before years end...even if Magic Mike comes here.

"I had coaches recruiting me for all different things: point guard, shooting guard, combo guard, wing, whatever,” Lloyd Jr. says. “At Nebraska I’m going to play a lot of point guard. Coach Hoiberg loves how I read the floor, my vision and just kinda my flow in terms of the pace so he really wants to be on the ball a lot next year. In my opinion, I’m a combo guard. But the game is going towards positionless basketball, so at the next level, I can be one through four.”

He is doing a local radio show each week with his Dad on the ticket. First one was kind of interesting. Hope he is our PG of the future.

Lloyd will play wherever we need him.  I'd take him at his word that he's a combo guard and our guards will pretty much be positionless.

Also, his pops moved to Lincoln from Cali so I think the fam is pretty sold on where Fred's program is headed.  High bball IQ dad and son.  Really excited for Jr. to get on the court.  So is he.
