.........from eliminating No. 8 Nebraska, 67-64, in the opening game of the second round of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament at the Target Center on Thursday.

Quote

As a team, Nebraska knocked down 10-of-28 three-pointers (.357) on the day, but went just 9-of-30 from inside the arc. The Huskers hit 16-of-22 free throws (.727). The Huskers also outworked the Spartans on the glass, 38-33, and won the turnover battle, 20-18, but the Spartans were more efficient from the field. MSU connected on 49 percent (25-51) of its field goals, including 19-of-29 inside the arc, while hitting 6-of-22 threes. The Spartans also sank 11-of-16 free throws.

DeeDee Hagemann led Michigan State with 18 points, while Moira Joiner added 16 points. Kamaria McDaniel put three Spartans in double figures with 12 points.

I’m torn - one the one hand, you could say the players played hard this season and they are worthy of an NCAA Tourney birth. However, as a coach, Amy Williams does not deserve the validation of back to back NCAA tourney appearances.
And it’s sadly telling that after 7 seasons at the helm, this is the current state of her program.

Funny how Sam gets mugged bringing the ball up. When sam tries to get physical she gets the fouls called on her. BTW two of the refs that called the MSU game in lincoln, called this game.

Officiating is undoubtedly bad in the B1G.  Not only in being inconsistent, say Traveling, Mugging, you name it.  If the officials don't call obvious fouls, they'll just get More of it.

I think it's time to get Muffet Mcgraw out of retirement. She would make women's basketball relevant real quick.  I don't see Markowski staying if Amy stays.

If Markowski transferred, that would be the most damning indictment of AW as a coach. Because you know her father Andy is NU true blue, through and through. So if he signed off on Alexis transferring, it would indicate to me that Andy has lost all faith in Amy and her program.

If she wants to develop as a post she should give it some consideration.

Whalen just announced her stepping down at Minnesota.  Shimmy Gray-Miller might be available, if Amy would like to upgrade her assistants.

Same old story...they shot 49%...we shot 33%   We actually had less turnover's and out rebounded them.

But shooting just wasn't there, except for Jazz. She just didn't get enough help.

We got fouled a lot too  but...

Those ugly losses this season...ones we should have won..., just did us in as far as the NCAAs.

Unless there's some losses by other contenders for the NCAA tourney....it may be over.

I just don't see how we get in, but maybe someone throws us a bone?  I think we're locked into the NIT and will be listed as a first four out.

What's this bit of conjecture is this based on?

This is just from my observation from sitting beside the bench all season and watching ppls language. I said it back when Leah left you can just tell.

She literally has the ability to be a jess sheppard but it's just not going to happen staying here IMO

You can complain about officiating but you have to be tough with the ball.  We had several unnecessary turnovers.  Our post players need to be better passing back out to the perimeter.  I can understand their frustration when the guards can’t get them the ball they may be reluctant to give it up.  Our over reliance on the three killed us again.  We just weren’t good enough and to me, the future doesn’t look promising.

And, I really don’t care about the WNIT.  It’s not going to help our reserves develop unless Maggie is given major playing time. IMO, she is the only bench player that can develop, potentially, into an effective B1G player.

I think we’ll be 2nd 4 out. I’m not sure we are going to the nit.

3 bench points again.
Game seemed frantic. I’m not seeing much game control from the staff. Subbing patterns are never consistent nor do they seem to make sense. Very frustrating to watch. Interested to see what happens in the off season/transfer season.
offense doesn’t make much sense to me either. We have great bigs and we rely on the 3. Work it in. Some outside. Some inside. But that’s not what we are doing.

Not sure is AM would transfer but if covid had not happened remember she was not going to go to Nebraska. Only after covid happened did she rethink her choice.

Hadn’t thought about this, just due to lineage, but I think they could lose several if things don’t change. Quickly and significantly. I think AW will “say the right things” in pressers and then things don’t change. This team could have/should have performed soooo much better. The talent is there.
