Minnesota (10-0) vs. Nebraska (7-1) Game Thread

We did not just beat Minnesota, we bludgeoned them. Their coach was p*ssed from beginning to end. Nice win ladies...very nice win. That said, Alexis is still not 100% on her game. She is closer than many think, but she a quarter turn off. When she gets going, we're going to be hard to beat. Lastly, we turned the ball over 20+ times. Think about that...we still blew them out. We need to work to reduce that turnover number.4 points -

I think she is close. She still looks a tad hesitant to mix things up, and she still seems a bit slower. I think her recovery is amazing.3 points -

The way Izzo coaches his team to grab and hold onto opponents and the refs being complicit in allowing it, I knew this one had very little chance of NU getting out of there with a dub, even with a somewhat close score at the half. A team basically has to beat MSU by 15-20 to get out of there with any sort of win is concerning, but the embarrassing 2nd half offensive *and* defensive effort is far more concerning for Hoiberg & Co. Well, I suspect now the coaches will have the players full attention, not unlike after last season's 2nd half debacle at Minny in the conference road opener. Overall, it will be a massive learning opportunity for the Huskers, we shall see what they glean from it on Friday night against the Hoosiers.3 points -
The stats don't lie. Williams played 33:36 minutes and Did Not Get One Rebound! That pretty much sums up our effort today.3 points

While I am not a fan of using 9-10 players a game, this is Amy's style and she will mostly run with it. Now there will be games where she will shrink her bench play to more of a quick break for our starters but those games are far and few. We will need to continue to have these type of starts if we want to have the type of season we all want to see. Thought Britt needed to call her name a bit more with her shot. Nice to see both Rimdal and Weidner play well. 12 assists and only 1 turnover between the two. Feel like Allison is still finding her way back still. She does play more fluid without any brace which is probably why she has been without one. Nice to see Hargrove step up today. Knew it would take her time to adjust to D1 BB. Not sure what is going on with Petrie but she has not stepped up which is why she has not seen a lot of court time. So someone needs to tell Moriarty she plays better without a shirt under her uniform. Agree on the turnovers as that will come back to bite us. Now we need to have no letdown these next few games til we get to GT.2 points -

Ummmmm. It has disintegrated in all sports. Ya know, technology is now available to reduce the bad calls. Patrons go to the games to see the players, the competition, the athletism and the artistry. It is time to change how officiating takes place (and I'm old school)2 points -

Today was my first opportunity to see the team in person. I was very pleased at how we came out of the gate with the intensity and physicality to match the Gophers. The officiating was wretched but that’s nothing new. Hake got us off to a great start with inspired and confident play. Coley’s length on defense was a factor early. Hargrove played her best all around game. Weidner is showing some old form. When she gets to the rim she will be back. Rimdal had a very fine floor game, leading scorer and 6 assists and was willing to get in the lane to initiate scoring chances Alexis had a battle inside and she has more to come. She battled. Moriarity played with confidence in the 4th qtr. Prince had some good moments and some sloppy play but she played the most. I liked her toughness rebounding. Sloppy play continues, too many lazy passes. Defended well but dribble penetration is going to hurt us. Minnesota had drives to the bucket in 2nd half with no help side help. Nice win and should get two more before Georgia Tech, UCLA and USC on the road. Let’s not have a Lindenwood performance against Tarleton or Chattanooga. GBR2 points -

Idk maybe I’m just used to a few road beat-downs every year and this didn’t really bother me. Caught an amped up, hot team on the wrong day. We matched up bad with them.2 points -

Lol— My wife walked into the room in the 2nd half and said “Oh now I know why your crabby” Funny thing was that I didn’t even think I was crabby at that point. Lol2 points -

TWO HUSKERS SHARING THE COURT AT THE SAME TIME IN THE BLAZERS V. LAKERS GAME!!!!!!! Bryce came in and 30 seconds later tossed an alley-oop dunk to Shaedon Sharpe. Then on the next offensive set, Bronny James Jr. got called for a goaltending violation giving Bryce his first bucket.1 point -

It’s just so inconsistent. I understand that it’s not easy to officiate. But today’s game was extremely rough the first half and very little was called. I knew in the 2nd half more would be called. It’s good that our girls were ready for a physical battle.1 point -

I watched the recording of the game on my DVR. That’s the first game I’ve been able to watch on tv this season. It was great to see them back at it! Any B1G conference win is a good win this season, and every season going forward. What an absolutely murderous conference. At one point while watching the game, I felt a momentary feeling of melancholy, realizing that Jaz Shelley really has moved on and is no longer here. She really was dazzling and endearing. How lucky we were to have her here. I don’t think I’ll ever forget her.1 point -

She was on the floor before the game ( I believe it was her) and she had a muscle stimulator on her mid-section. Not sure what that means, but i thought I would mention it. I am not in the same camp regarding the substitution pattern. I would rather look at it that she is leveraging her depth and keeping players fresh. I haven't looked at overall minutes...how does that look?1 point -

Fred’s gonna have a hey day with the guys in practice this week. I thought it was a bit premature by some of crowning Connor “better than Keisei” after a couple of non con games. MSU clearly scouted and with him shut down, Brice and Juwan off, just knew it was going to be a really long night. I realize Fred is trying to get Gavin his confidence back up but yikes! Had the ball taken right from his hands again. Honestly, Cale looks more comfortable out there than Gavin does right now. Not that it would’ve mattered, MSU was just on fire. Need to learn a lot in practice this week.1 point -

The sky is not falling, Fred should not be on the hot seat, or season is not doomed. I really liked how we played in the first half all things considered. We still need to figure out our offense, otherwise teams will just blanket Connor and we have nothing else. The second half was sad to see. Come back and beat a talented but beatable Indiana team and everything is back on track.1 point -

Oooof that was baaaaaaad. Gonna have to rethink my rethink about this team. They quit today. That's not a good sign. Essegian is gonna end up being pretty good. I like him alot. He's nowhere close to what Tominaga gave us...yet. Silver lining - this happens at least once a season with a Hoibergs team. I think the best possible scenario is it happened game one in conference play, on the road, and against MSU. Team needs to delete this from the memory bank, regroup, and move on.1 point
