My, aren't we picky these days. A four-star with Rivals 51 and ESPN 48 national rankings, with many high-major offers, with official visits to Louisville, Texas and West Virginia, and a commitment to Kansas--plus current interest from high level programs! Yeah, it's obvious why we would be skeptical of his potential because some anonymous poster(s) from Kansas questioned his foot speed after his departure announcement. Yeah. That's the ticket. Actually, Andrew White appears to be a quintessential Tim Miles recruit: high work ethic and effort, high character, academically smart, excellent citizen and representative of the program, along with excellent athleticism and high basketball skills. Sounds like a knock-it-out-of-the park possibility for Nebrasketball. Also, Huskerville appears to offer a great opportunity to Mr. White: he plays a position of need here, and the Tim Miles track record for high-production from transfers is abundantly apparent.

  2. Myles Holley did? Are you kidding me? Other than some spectacular dunks against 250+ RPI teams at garbage time, he did virtually nothing prior to transferring. Now, that has nothing to do with whether we sign Gregory, a subject to which I defer to the coaches, but in the interest of historical accuracy....

  3. This This Not sure why anyone would be ready to jump out the window when we are returning a preseason top 25 team. Seems like a premature move. Not to mention we will probably be seeing a visit from a 4 star Kansas transfer soon.

  4. While I agree that those two contributed way more than an empty seat and believe its a no-brainer that Gregory would do the same...I think it goes a lot deeper than that. The coaches have time here. I think he would be a pretty good get, but the staff knows best. I have no idea what they're doing here, but if they feel we have some good opportunities with transfers yet (White from KU, etc) then I understand waiting and not letting this be a knee jerk reaction to hurry up and lock him down. Would be a good catch this late, good athleticism, may be a diamond in the rough, flying slightly under the radar, but there's also a reason he's still available with offers he has. Then you have to pair the prospects of landing a transfer with how it's looking for the 2015 class and if it's likely we could grab an extra guy there. Guys we've been talking to and offering scholarships to almost 2 years before we heard of Jamall Gregory. I don't know what is going on. I have no inside info. I'd be happy if we added him. But I'm fine with the wait and see if that is what's going on.

  5. i am calling it now. We win tomorrow morning and Sunday DeLeon wakes up with no pain and takes the bump and throws a complete game. Wouldn't that be about as graet as could be?

  6. If that's the case, we might as well add Dwight Smith since it wouldn't hurt anything.

  7. I'm ok landing White and leaving an open scholarship. Especially if the coaches feel good about landing a full class in 2015.

  8. Caleb Walker and Myles Holley contributed a lot more than an empty seat. Sign him and align that athleticism with skills, Tim.

  9. Two cents on Nike/Adidas argument... Most of you seem to be good at following twatter accounts. Tell me, have any of them posted pictures of their latest Adidas pick up? I'll be waiting!

Andrew White would have to be the favorite for the Naismith after his redshirt year in our program.

Playing good defense is a team thing, not an individual thing. We were not exactly flush with great on-ball defenders last year, but by playing to our assignments and playing good help defense, we manufactured effective defense. As mentioned above, I don't think Shields is necessarily a great on-ball defender, and we saw a number of our players individually get exposed defensively...but a good defensive concept doesn't make you reliant on stopping people 1-on-1. Maybe that's what they've grown accustomed to at KU because they are loaded with elite talent top to bottom, but for us mere mortal programs, we can live with a guy that can't defend on an island. If you believe in recruiting rankings at all (and they shaky, but still relevant), White would be the highest-rated prospect to be a Husker in the Rivals (2002-present) era by a LONG way. Dude was the #51 overall player in 2012 per Rivals, and recruited by most of the country. I think he would blossom in this environment.

I wouldn't read too much into those comments. I remember reading a preview of our team this year that said Petteway was "dreadful" at Texas Tech and that he and Pitchford would never start for a good team in the Big Ten. White is as good of a player as we can expect to get this late. He was a Top 50 recruit out of high school. Understood, but every KU source on White is saying the same thing: that he sits on the bench because he lacks the quickness to play great defense at his position. The issue seems to be more than just having dominant players ahead of him. I know from watching two years of Miles ball that if you can't play defense, you won't play much, as it should be. I'm just raising the issue. Obviously, if they feel he can play for us, then I trust their judgment, but if he was limited defensively at KU, then he's equally limited defensively at Nebraska.

  16. Does UNLV even have anybody left on their team to run off to make room for new guys?

  17. Here are a couple blurbs on Jamall Gregory from a Washington Post article: "the 6-foot-4 Gregory has an uncanny ability to dunk. He [also] has, according to Coolidge Coach Vaughn Jones, a gift for timing blocked shots that very few high school players have." "But what isn’t known outside the District’s basketball circles is Gregory’s hunger to bust out of his highlight-reel reputation. Few know that he is shooting 500 jumpers every day, putting shot after shot up before and after the Colts practice each evening. On game nights, he has also worked relentlessly to not just find a variety of ways to score, but to also take out the garbage for Coolidge (9-3), and his rebounding numbers are among the best in the city."
