Brice Williams....  Help me out here!!! He is the most frustrating player to watch.  I just felt like he was going through the motions last night.  I just cant figure this guy out.  Thoughts??

He does things where you go, “is this guy and NBA guy?” Then he turns around the next night and makes you go, “could this guy play NAIA?”

It looked like we had never practiced against a zone, once we scraped back to 50-50 after the abysmal start. Allick and Rice had good games, Mast and Tominaga were so-so and the rest were subpar. We should beat Iowa if we play them again. Let's turn the page and beat Rutgers. That's all I have. 

They made threes and we didn’t.  That was ultimately what decided the game.

When we can't shoot, playing against a team like Iowa and Creighton where all they do is shoot:

Yes, it was bad from the get go.  Coming off the high that was the Purdue game, to endure a sloppy performance, such as this was, was absolutely disheartening. 

The lack of full effort was obvious.  The excuse that we were tired, or there was a letdown, is just that, excuses.  Good teams are prepared to play game after game.  That is what makes them champions.  I know the players and staff are disappointed; but if you are prepared, then disappointment becomes unnecessary. 

The offense was good when we had movement.  We got to the basket; but the number of missed bunnies was/is unacceptable at this level.

The bricks being thrown from the outside should have been a hint that we should limit the numbers shot (despite that many of them were wide open looks) instead we kept launching them.  SAD.

Defefensively, we simply sucked.  We had instances where we were caught looking away from our assignment and a clean shot was provided.  Their entire team looked like All-American players, rather than the average players that they are.  Yes, they hit their shots; but it is made easier when you are wide open.

Josiah played well.  Kudos to him.  Offensively, Eli played well. Mast was okay, everyone else...not so much.

Okay, I vented.  We now move on.

Iowa, like Creighton, sucks us into the paint and with good kick outs they kill us with threes.  We were really poor at running them off the three point line.  Iowa makes a simple switch to a zone and is able to go on a run while to we struggle to figure it out.  My question is, what defensive adjustments did we make?  I didn't perceive any.  

i was surprised how good iowa was. that's not a bad loss. 

we're not beating any big ten teams shooting 4-26 from 3.

I think fatigue is a fair excuse in this case. like the aforementioned C-word university, you have to D them with high energy, as you do all kick out and shoot 3 teams. However, if you do get out, those teams become very mortal very quickly. 

But when you're a step behind pretty much the whole game, and what little you have in your tank you burn trying to comeback from a stupid deficit that shouldn't have happened (really, in the end we lost to that 17-2 run because it caused us to burn too much too soon to dig out), you're not going to win. 

Get a little rest, let the burn from getting your face smacked that badly motivate you for your next trip, and finally get that elusive B1G road win. They're good enough to do it if they're playing at higher energy. 

If they come in like stoned sloths again, Rutgers going to pound them.

A loss would have been acceptable.  They aren’t a bad team.  How we lost and how bad it got is unacceptable.  Our metrics moved further back than they moved up after our Purdue win.  That’s not good.

I concur with you guys. Jo played a nice, solid game. Then he gives and interview, doesn’t name names and blames himself. Says it’s on him as a leader to get guys on the same page. 
JL has come out the past few games and looked at times lost, unsure, and needs to be much much better as our starting PG. I know he’s playing out of position but he has to give us something. 
Brice looks like an all conference player one game and the a completely intimidated can’t make any shot player. Inconsistency is a problem.

I was also disappointed is Juwan. He’s our supposed dawg and locker room leader. That layup attempt in the second half where he went up and wildly missed said it all. 
I think guys watched a bit too much Husker produced media clips and vids the next two days and forgot about Iowa. 
On to Rutgers 

It’s a lot easier to swarm, scramble and rotate on defense when you have an entire arena cheering you on and creating energy. When you’re on the road, especially in an empty arena, you have to create your own energy. I didn’t have any issue with the offense last night, but the defense was lackadaisical at best. Sam and Wilcher came in in the 1st and brought defensive energy to get back close but it was very poor in the 2nd. Say what you want about KT’s antics but at least he brings energy. Brice and Juwan looked half asleep. 

Did anyone else listen to Allick’s interview after the game?  It’s definitely worth listening to.  I’d post it here from YouTube but I suck at doing that.  Maybe someone smarter than me can post it here.

This is NOT “same old Nebraska”.  Same old Nebraska hasn’t ever been here, coming out to a half-dead road crowd after beating the #1 team in the country by 16 three days prior.

 

ANY team - and I do mean any - was going have a letdown there.  And there is not enough of a talent delta to overcome it.

 

Teams come out flat.  Lose on the road.  Coaches get outcoached.  It happens.  It’s a 31-game season.  And I have to tell you, there’s a 4-game stretch coming down the road that looks like an 0-4 deal (look at our schedule, you’ll see it).  But that doesn’t mean we can’t still go 22-9 and be a safe tourney pick.  So let’s all just keep our poo together. This wasn’t one of the games projected as a win, folks.

 

Sure, you could say it was a “winnable” game.  So is any game.  Michigan St, Kansas St, Indiana, and Purdue were likely losses and went 4-0 against them.  So let’s not lose perspective.

 

We will give Rutgers a good game.  They will be ready to go.

 

I swear, some of you act like you haven’t been a masochist NUBB fan for very long.  If you have, you should know better and enjoy the 13-4 start!

There's a difference between losing and getting blown out. That's where the disappointment comes from.

While we have a great start we haven't played that hard of a schedule. Now we are in the thick of it. And this team hasn't shown us it's not the same old Nebraska. It's shown us it's not the dumpster fire that was Hoibergs 1st years.

This team may not be the same old Nebraska team. But I'm not betting my life against that just yet

Allick absolutely abused Iowa’s stud freshman.  He was the only guy who brought his A game.

Rice showed some nice flashes on offense but his defense showed why he doesn’t play more.  He looked like a confused freshmen.  He’ll figure it out with experience.

Brice Williams is maddening.  His defense is lousy.  The frustrating thing is he has the tools to be very effective on D.  When we tied the game up he basically turned it back into a double digit lead for Iowa.  
 

Anyways, it was a road game we were supposed to lose so time to put it in the rear view mirror.

Our defense was not ready for this game. Energy, or "X's and O's", or both, we were always behind. We weren't that way with Purdue. Is it the 2-day prep thing, or was it just effort that caused our guys to not know where the open shooter was? 

Also, I don't know why you would want to run with Iowa (or with Creighton).  Slow down and run 15 seconds of offense, you will probably get a good shot. 

Anyway, we have more time to prep for Rutgers.  It will be an ugly game so be prepared.  If we go 1-1 on the road for this stretch, that is more than acceptable.

Agree wholeheartedly on the "not running" with Iowa or CU, not sure why Hoiberg didn't light up his guys about that aspect in either game, tbh. They can turn it around, much like the team did after that subpar 2nd half at Minny. It's a long grind, but this can not become a trend when a bunch of dudes think they're Duke after one B1G-time win. We shall see, GBR no matter what.
