    Brice Williams Named B1G POTW

    From UNL:

Williams earned his second award of the season as he averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in helping Nebraska post wins over No. 18 Illinois and at No. 16 Oregon. He finished with 27 points, including eight straight points in overtime, a season-best eight rebounds and four assists as the Huskers knocked off Illinois for the first time since 2018.  In NU’s 77-71 win at Oregon, Williams had 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting along with seven rebounds and six assists to match a season high in that category.

Williams becomes the second Husker to win multiple Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors, joining Shavon Shields, who earned a pair of weekly honors during the 2013-14 season.

Even though it shouldn’t be this way… It’ll probably depend on how the team finishes.

Sad but true as that is a factor.  Most likely he will be 2nd team and that is a pretty solid year if that happens.

He’s being asked to carry a huge load and a different role than what was painted for him returning. We are really going to miss him next year but I’m enjoying this season with him here

Different role than what was painted for him? It has seemed various obvious that this entire thing was set up for Brice to be the man and that last year where Keisei came back and Brice deferred to him was the different role.

By different role, I meant bringing the ball up and playing point guard.

That was his role last year as well.  He brought the ball up and played point guard so it's not a different role for him.

Yeah, I know that. He didn’t love that. That’s why we brought in a 6th year point guard through the transfer portal. Rollie was penciled in to be the primary ball handler. That hasn’t always been the case this season, so a bit different than what he thought.

Brice is clearly deserving of 1st team All-Big Ten. All it takes for the Huskers to keep winning enough for B.W. to be thought worthy of such consideration, it is tough in an 18-team league. I think he has that dawg in him, just need for NU to stack up as many victories as possible in the final 8 ballgames. Time will tell the tale. GBR

Just in case anybody was wondering, since 1990, top NU season scorers:

    1. E. Piatkowski (93-94): 21.5 PPG

    2. T. Lue (97-98): 21.2 PPG

    3. J. Palmer (18-19): 19.7 PPG

    4. B. Williams (24-25): 19.2 PPG (23 G)

    5. T. Lue (96-97): 18.8 PPG

    6. A. Maric (06-07): 18.5 PPG

    7. T. Petteway (14-15): 18.2 PPG

I thought Lue was a great player, but did not realize he scored that much.  The rest are not really a surprise from what I remember except it seemed like Petteway was averaging like 35 pts per game during that season.

Because as a team we averaged like 56, lol.

Good point.  I wonder who had the highest percentage of a team's points for a season?  Yes, I'm too lazy to look it up myself.

Dave Hoppen would have to be up there pretty high in the annals of Nebrasketball.

Good call.  Slow Moe was always looking to pound it in to him.

Hoppen in 84-85 (his junior season) averaged 23.5 points on a team that averaged 71.8.   32.7% of the team points.  (His senior year he averaged 22.1 on a team that averaged 70.8 - but he missed the last 10+ games at the end of that season so not sure what we averaged in the games he played).

    Maric in 06-07 was 18.5 on a team that averaged 66.8 -  27.7%

(FWIW - Moe's teams generally averaged more points that Doc's teams did - even without a 3 point line.)

    Good stuff on Aleks Maric.
