While NU has it's Handy Johnson and Cookies (Belcher & Miller) the world of College Basketball is littered with great names that go from the absurd to the unusual. Here is the starting 5 for my All-NAME team. Feel free to come up with your own.

Baskerville Holmes - Memphis

Fennis Dembo - Wyoming

God Shamgod - Providence

Smokey McCovery - Oklahoma

Skeeter Henry - Oklahoma

Lawrence Funderburke from Ohio State

Cookie Belcher from Nebrasketball

Indiana Faithfull from Wofford

Bak Bak from Cal
Wanaah Bail from UCLA ( who subsequently bailed on the Bruins ;) )

I'll admit, I looked up the Wofford dude. How does he not end up somewhere in the Hoosier state?!?

I'm with you on the first two.

But how can you forget Justus Thigpen from ISU?

Or Chief Kickingstallionsims from Stetson?

He was big but I thought maybe low 7s. Also, didn't he play for Alabama State or one of those Alabama schools when we played him?

OK, this isn't basketball, but I do like this name and you can look him up if you don't believe me. I speak of the first Asian professional football player, Walter Achiu. I couldn't find his picture or I would have made him an avatar. His nickname was "Sneeze" of course.

I wonder if you can scrape together a starting roster of guys with the same first and last name like Deng Deng

Bak Bak from Cal

Deng Deng from Baylor

There was a JoJo at KU, but that was his 1st name? ;)

I can think of 4

Bak Bak

Duany Duany

Deng Deng

Longar Longar

Nebraska's had some doozies along the way:

Stan Cloudy

Carl McPipe

*Polish Rifle

Cookie Belcher

Jay-R Strowbridge

Sack Henry (according to Doc Sadler's pronunciation)

Moses Abraham

Richard Van Poelgeest

* Eric Piatkowski's name should be legally changed to that.

Iowa State has had some great name guys in their history haven't they?  Anybody remember Julius Michalik?

These guys don't have funny names, but the were sweet ball players for ISU. The first ever Husker game I attended was against ISU when their STAR was Barry Stevens, which led to Jeff Grayer, to a portly Victor Alexander and then some kid from Ames they called "the Mayor"

All true but they did have a kid named Lafestor Rhodes that dropped 50+ on Iowa in the late 80's. I had a roommate from Iowa that year. And one from Wyoming, and the two always argued who was better Lafestor or Fennis Dembo. Dembo was the one who played in the league.

That was the begining of me hating Iowa State.

How about Hercle Ivy? My friend stole his warm up name plate when he played here at the Colosseum for Iowa State.
