Dimes, or someone else who knows how to cut and paste tables or charts from other sites, please copy and past Rafael's stats for his 3 seasons at Brown to compare to Fahro Alihodzic's two seasons at UAB.  Here are the applicable links:

He will be 24 years old at that start of the 2015 season.  Seems to be a solid rebounder.  Plays primarily down low, but looks like he'll try about one three-point shot per game, and make it half the time.  Looks to have good hands, and good ball handling skills for a 6-9 big.  Would like to see his FT %  go up.  On the whole, not hating this possibility at all.

Watched some film of this dude.  He's not a run-fast-jump-high athlete, but he has extremely high coordination and ball skills for someone his size.  He likes playing in the post, and is an excellent passer.  Super high offensive and defensive IQ, good hands, very physical on both ends.  He would be as valuable as any newcomer we bring in next year.  I really hope we land him.  Similar build and athleticism as Leslee, but a much more polished player, fundamentally.  Very good ball handler for his size as well.  He brought the ball up against pressure for Brown a lot.

I haven't had time to check everyone else's rosters, but I know we can probably guarantee him 20 min/game plus probably starting (You'd rather have guys who can't shoot free throws starting vs finishing anyway)

Are any of those other schools planning on using him for anything besides backup depth?

Hope Coach Miles brings a bunch of pictures with him for the visit!  I don't see him signing without taking a trip to see the campus. To bad, looks like he could fill the big man void.

I doubt the UNL campus itself would make much of an impression on someone who currently attends Brown.

The arena, however, might.

But, realistically, the kid probably doesn't have pro aspirations, meaning he'll be going pro in something other than sports and in that case, the crest on his degree will matter.  We'll likely be at a significant disadvantage in comparison to Rice, USC and Pitt.  But who knows?  We beat out an IVY or two when it came to getting Tarin, didn't we?

He majored in Business, Entrepreneurship, Organizations.  Hey, Smart Rank provides us a top 100 score

Warren Buffet has had pretty good entrepreneurial success in multiple organizations as a Husker business grad.

He also holds a graduate degree from the very prestigious Columbia University of the Ivy league.

Caramba!  cheer2.gif  Maia, Me Likey!

Maybe Miles can get him to visit!

Rodizio definitely a plus (neither Silverbacked nor I ever met a buffet we didn't like ;))

(Could we get them to cater the Training Tables for NU?)

Quick look at the competition (not guaranteed to be completely accurate)

Pitt: 11 players on scholarship/VC, 3 guys in the PF/C range

USC: 11 players on scholarship/VC, 5 guys in the PF range

South Carolina: 14 players on scholarship/VC, 6 guys in the PF/C range

Rice: 12 players on scholarship/VC, 4 guys in the PF/C range

Nebraska: 11 players on scholarship/VC, 3 guys in the PF/C range

Not sure what he's looking for academically, which could be the biggest factor, but I would guess Pitt is our biggest competition on the basis of needing height.

I think the ratings of the particular graduate study he will pursue would be a lot more relevant.

yeah, and everybody knows the USN&WR rankings are mostly subjective and yadda yadda...but it does help illustrate perception and like it or not for almost everyone perception is reality.

From a Lee Barfknecht article dated yesterday afternoon and updated last night:

"[Rafael] Maia hasn’t visited Nebraska yet but is interested in scheduling a trip. He was at Pitt on Monday and looks to visit USC next.

Maia, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, played in prep school at Maine Central Institute for Dave “Soupy” Campbell, a former Nebraska assistant and head coach at Western Nebraska Community College. Campbell is retired and lives in Lincoln."
