TheKamdyMan Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 isn't he suppose to visit here this upcoming weekend? yes he has an official visit to NU this weekend Latest word is that he will take all his official visits and is headed to Georgia this weekend. Interesting. Robin said March 28 in his recent article and havent seen anything different. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Also, looks like Missouri visited last week to see him work out. Gaaaaaa!!! No! Nooooah!! Dammit, no!!! I don't want Mizzou or anyone else trolling around this kid. Reasons why I like Mike: 1. Watch his tape and look how fluidly he moves. He has great agility for a guy that size. You can't teach that. 2. Look at how he scores. It's not all dunks. He uses the backboard extremely well. Intuitively well. That's also hard to teach. 3. He's not trying to be a 6'10" shooting guard. MichHusker thought it was a liability, when they scouted him, that he doesn't score much from outside of 5 feet. But that's actually a plus for him as a recruit, IMO. We need a big who wants to be inside. 4. This kid can post. He's got some of the moves down already. The Sikma dream shake spin thingy or whatever you call it. It's not like he has every single post move down pat that you could imagine, but he shows creativity inside with getting a shot off. I like this kid. I want us to land this kid. Tell Mizzou to go foul themselves. (Oh, wait, it's Missouri, they've already done that.) Quote
Swan88 Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 This is from an article posted yesterday and updated this morning: "Mike Edwards, a 6-9, 225-pound center from Westland, Mich., is set to visit Georgia this weekend." Quote
49r Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Forget it Norm. Let it go. He's gone. Kudzu! ON TO THE NEXT ONE!!! Quote
HuskerCager Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 This sucks. We had an under-the-radar guy who was ripe for the picking but is starting to fly above-the-radar. And now not so ripe. Drat. When it is springtime and programs are desperate to make a stop-gap roster fill, there's no such thing as an under-the-radar guy. This is the time of year when an uncommitted player's reputation is more inflated than a late '90's dot.com stock. I'd like to see Edwards sign, but not sure that teams like Mizzou, GA, etc, are validation that this is a can't-miss prospect. Weren't we fighting the Illini for Vooch this time of year a couple of years ago? Quote

Weren't we fighting the Illini for Vooch this time of year a couple of years ago? Yeah, I'm not going by his offers. My interest was entirely based on watching film of the kid play. He has full game film in this thread so you can get a pretty good sense of what he's like. And the highlight videos are actually a pretty good set of films in this case because there's a bunch of highlights from single games rather than cherry picking from an entire season. I like this kid based on what I see him doing on film. I liked him before any of these other programs offered. I'm not surprised by the offers because of what I see on film. But, go back to the beginning of the thread and you'll see I was saying offer him before any of these other name schools became involved. I think this kid is pretty good. I think he's worthy of our offer whether anyone else snuck in on him or not. What I didn't want was competition from bigger-name programs, which appears to be happening. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 ...sorry, here is the second video. Wow. I'm kind of surprised that a kid with those attributes is still available. I cannot find a Rivals page for him. According to Verbal Commits, he's 6'9" and 225#. Some observations about the video: 1. The kid is extremely mobile at that size. Very athletic for that size. 2. Good, soft hands, was able to reach down and grab low bounce passes on screen and rolls. 3. Speaking of which, the kid knows how to make a basket cut on a screen and roll!!! 4. Loved his attitude. Towards the end of the clip, there's a little bumping going on after he makes a play. He doesn't back down from it. You need a center with a little bit of nasty in him. 5. Showed some pretty good ability to handle the ball and drive. SIGN THIS KID UP!!! Cager, here's what I said on March 10. Show me where Vooch had film remotely this good. Quote

Huskerpapa Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 I kind of hate making or drawing comparisons, but this kid reminds me of a Michigan State type big...sorta like Schilling or Costello. Am I wrong? Silverbacked1 1 Quote
GATA Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Whoa. Just watched the video. How did this kid slip through the cracks? Quote

Am I wrong? I mentioned it a couple pages back, even linked Schillings senior film, that he is a a similar player, not as skilled imo, but would be comparable. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Whoa. Just watched the video. How did this kid slip through the cracks? He didn't start as a junior. He played behind a kid who was kind of a beast. So, as a junior, he only averaged about 4 and 4. But he came back this year to average over 20 ppg and IIRC something like 10 rpg. THAT is how he slipped through the cracks. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Robin confirmed the visit to UGA and said nothing new on the NU front Quote
nustudent Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Hey, Student, good to hear from you again. It's been awhile. Thanks...i haven't been around much for the last 2 years...its nice to be hopeful for good fortunes with the program though. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Robin confirmed the visit to UGA and said nothing new on the NU front Soooo do you draw any inferences from that? No news is no news? Or is the fact he's going to Georgia and not here for his visit this weekend a bad sign? Quote
MandRHusker Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Sounds like while Edwards is visiting Georgia this weekend there is nothing new on the front with Nebraska. Doesn't sound promising for the good guys! Quote

Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 As long as we're already on Page 8 with this one, I bring you ... Some discussion of why he blew up this year: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/high-school/2015/03/12/recruiting-john-glenns-mike-edwards-a-rising-star/70238056/ Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 OK, here's the deal. I don't follow 18-year-old kids on twitter and try to communicate (tweet?) with them to get them to come to my preferred school. HOWEVER, I do occasionally check out their twitterers. And while I don't know how to post pictures from his twitter account, here's some observations therefrom: 1. He's attended Michigan State hoops games (makes sense cuz his dad played FB there in the 80s.) 2. He's attend U of M hoops games. Seemed to be cheering on the boys in maize and blue. Hmmm. 3. Got his picture taken with Ndomukong Suh, so he's clearly a Detroit Lions fan. Wait, wut? Yes, he got his picture taken with Ndomukong Suh and he posted it to his twitter thingy. So, here's the deal, guys. Someone get ahold of the DOBO for NU men's hoops. This is the way to play this bad boy. Bring this Edwards kid in for his visit during the spring game the weekend of April 11. Bring Ndomukong Suh in for the spring game April 11. Have Ndomukong Suh meet this kid like Shaquille O'Neil was brought in to meet Elbert Robinson at LSU or Lebron James was brought in to meet whomever at tOSU. Boom. Roasted. (Or whatever.) OK, I'm the ideas guy; you detail people make it happen. Red Rum and fred1212 2 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 He may hate Suh now that he left Detroit. (pic for effect) Quote
Red Don Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Also, looks like Missouri visited last week to see him work out. As usual, looks like Tim Miles is ahead of the pack in identifying and pursuing under-rated players. Edwards is, apparently, under-rated no longer. I'm not so sure its a case of Miles being the First One to identify an under the radar player as much as it might be our trying to determine if we have an opening for him. According to the 3-12 Detroit News article he had several Offers (including Georgia) already & drawing lots of additional interest. I don't believe we offered until around 3-14. Nevertheless, hope our early interest, facilities, and coaching staff carry the day. (Plus,Maybe he really wants to go see Spain this summer ) Quote

FredsSlacks Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 I like this kid a lot as a prospect, but i would be surprised if he could contribute a whole lot from day 1. A juco big might be better for our short term success which would lead us to getting better recruits down the road. Quote
