Silverbacked1 Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Didn't we have a football player a few years back that gave up football because he got some really good academic awards? He didn't play much but he had to make the choice. I could also be missremembering it also. Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Velander had an academic scholarship. His pops was a professor, I believe. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 You can have the scholarship up until you play. At that point you have to give up all academic scholarships. Otherwise like HHC mentioned you'd have all sorts of workarounds to get kids on academic schollies to make their teams better. bobcat402 1 Quote

FredsSlacks Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 i think there is at least a 50/50 chance that 1 of these guys won't be on the team next year:  petteway fuller webster hammond  i think you add the big guy no matter what... and a last case scenario would be to ask shavon to give up his scholarship for 1 year. So is that like a 12.5% chance that any one of them in particular would transfer? I think you could add some more names to that list and keep the odds at 50/50. Quote
uneblinstu Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Velander had an academic scholarship. His pops was a professor, I believe. He was not on an academic scholarship. You're right, his dad taught in the Engineering department, so that covered some or most of his tuition. Not all, at the time, university employees could only get 15 credits per year covered, so he'd still have some they'd have to pay out of pocket. Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 Ah. Â For some reason I thought he earned one eventually, but I'm probably not remembering that accurately. Â Quote

I agree with you that someone will leave, but I do not think Fuller or Hammond are part of the list. Petteway is the obvious possibility, but honestly I don't think he has been impressive enough to go to the NBA. I think he would get drafted, but not in the 1st round, so I would imagine he will stay for another season, in order to try to make it into the 1st round. If Petteway comes back, then I think either Webster or Parker will end up leaving. Especially considering the addition of both Glynn Watson and Andrew White to the rotation next season. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Back to the main discussion... Miles better have some big guys in mind for next year. Purdue made us look very small inside and that was with moses and leslee who won't be here next year. Quote
KarlHessEatMy.... Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Haas for Purdue was a giant. He made Leslee look like a 6'4" player. I was kind of in awe of how big that kid was. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Haas is a mountain of a man. He was a four-star out of the south but did not have the BIG boys after him. He did get recruited by SEC and Big 12 schools, but Purdue got him fairly early in the process. Quote
Dead Dog Alley Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Does anybody remember Ricky Blanton in 1986? He was a 6'6" to 6'7" kid, great shooter, who switched from SG to C after some injuries and helped take LSU to the final four (he did put on a quick 25 lbs when he switched positions). Anyway, I'm not saying this would work, but....Nick Fuller to play some 4 and 5 next year? Quote

Team that the LSU Rule was made to never play a home game in the Big Dance (and hasn't happened since), in this case for a Bayou Bengal team that barely made the tourney as an at-large 11th seed. It took another 20 years when George Mason made the Final Four as an #11. In the early 80's Villanova won it all as a #9 against the Hoyas.  That '86 season was memorable for a Cinderella team playing at HOME. And, yes, I do recall Ricky Blanton... Quote

He needs to get those Ryan Anderson fast hands and some leverage if he wants to play with the big boys. Hopefully neither of these things turn him into a less effective 3pt shooter. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 This spring signing period, Miles is going to need to pull a frickin' rabbit out of his hat. With White being a shooter, I'd say biggest need is a tall dude who can bang in the middle. Quote

We don't tend to advertise our overrecruiting during the season (or in general)  There is going to be plenty of action come this summer between guys looking for homes and transfers. We'll see what type of space we have. Quote
