Since the media has already noted the similarities between our new football coach and our basketball coach. I have done some investigation and discovered my own.

1. Both Coach Miles and Coach Riley like their burritos spicy, but not EEEW! spicy.

2. Both sometimes say Jiminy Christmas when they actually mean Jiminy Crickets.

3. Both sleep with a stuffed animal.

4. Neither man missed a single episode of Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood during his childhood.

5. Each man had a boyhood crush on Toni Tennille.

Jimmy, I call BS that they both had crushes on Toni Tenille. I'd believe it if it hadn't been for that excessively lame "Muskrat Love" song. Plus, Riley is about 13 years older than Miles. At a time when Miles might -- MIGHT -- have harbored a crush on Toni Tenille, Riley would have been enamored of either Stevie Nicks or that fine, fine Nancy Wilson woman. Hubba hubba.

Norm: No one knows what is in a man's heart. Perhaps we'll discover who really had that crush now that the Captain is out of the picture. And speaking of Muskrat Love, how about using that song to get the crowd pumped on Sunday? And I'm sure you realize that mighty few of the posters here have the faintest notion what the hell we are talking about.

Chatelain: Miles, Riley and the lessons of losing

“There are all kinds of learning experiences from losing,” Miles told me Friday. “I’ve said for a long time, losing is my mentor.”

You realize that in order to win, you must eliminate ways to lose. You become obsessed with little mistakes that add up to defeat. Like special teams in football. Like out-of-bounds plays in basketball.

The margin of a basketball game is often six points or less, Miles says. That’s two possessions. A few out-of-bounds plays.

I finally got around to listening to the Muskrat Love embed. Sounds like Henry Kissinger might show up if we play it for the intro. Maybe he could sit next to Clarence Thomas. And I think Toni may have soured on the Captain when he lost his cap. However it is remarkable that he could mimic the sound my stomach makes after a spicy burrito on his keyboard way back then. He must also have taken a ride on the hype train.
