If this is already in another thread, feel free to ignore it.

I think it would be fun to start talking about various seeding scenarios. (I know: we should just be happy we're in. But we are fans. On a message board. This is what we do...)

Nebraska loses to Purdue: This would be bad. Enough to put us to first team out status. If we were in, we would be doing a play in for a 12 seed.

Nebraska loses to Ohio State: Probably a 12 seed in some mode or other.

Nebraska beats Purdue AND:

  • Loses to not-Michigan (Illinois, Indiana): Probably a 12 seed in some mode or other.
  • Loses to Michigan: 12 seed in some mode, maybe an 11.

Nebraska beats Ohio State AND:

  • Loses to not-Michigan: 12/11.
  • Loses to Michigan: 11.

Nebraska beats Purdue, not-Michigan, AND:

  • Loses to not-NCAA team (Northwestern, PSU, Minny): 10/11
  • Loses to NCAA team (Wisco, Iowa, MSU): 10/9

Nebraska beats Purdue, Michigan, AND:

  • Loses to not-NCAA team: 10/9
  • Loses to NCAA team: 9/8

Nebraska beats Ohio State, not-Michigan, AND:

  • Loses to not-NCAA team: 10
  • Loses to NCAA team: 10/9

Nebraska beats Ohio State, Michigan, AND:

  • Loses to not-NCAA team: 9
  • Loses to NCAA team: 8

Nebraska wins the B1G tourney:

  • Beating Purdue, not-Michigan, and not-NCAA team: 9
  • Beating Purdue, not-Michigan, and NCAA team: 8
  • Beating Purdue, Michigan, and not-NCAA team: 8
  • Beating Purdue, Michigan, and NCAA team: 7
  • Beating Ohio State, not-Michigan, and not-NCAA: 8
  • Beating Ohio State, not-Michigan, and NCAA team: 7
  • Beating Ohio State, Michigan, and not-NCAA team: 7
  • Beating Ohio Sate, Michigan, and NCAA team: 6

Obviously, a lot depends on how other teams do... but you really got to think that if Nebraska wins the B1G tourney beating Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State or Wisconsin, they would merit a much better seeding.

I feel like this might be too optimistic in some regards. But, if we show we can win on a neutral court against good teams, that will be meaningful.

Thoughts?

if we win all 3 games, our rpi would be roughly 20.  if how hot we are late in the season against very good competition is taken into account and gives us a 1 seed jump that makes us a 4.

Wow - I knew the RPI would look good if we win the tourney, but I had no idea it would look that good.

So if we're a 10 or 11 now, each win in the B1G tourney is worth maybe 2 seed lines? And a loss may cost us about 1 seed line.

So lose to OSU maybe an 11 or 12 seed, beat OSU & lose to Mich, maybe a 9 or 10 seed, reach the final but lose to Wisky/MSU, maybe a 7 or 8 seed. Win it all, maybe a 5 or 6 ... or even a 4 as you mentioned.

The downside is that the NCAA selection committee pretty much locks everyone in by Sunday morning, so it's tough to move up the seed line based on the Sunday tourney championship games.

I think really the only scenario that would be a killer would be if Purdue beats OSU and then upsets us in the quarters. Then we'd be sweating out Selection Sunday. Otherwise I think we're playing for seeding this weekend.  :)  That's a good feeling. Rooting for the Buckeyes Thursday won't be quite as good of a feeling, but I'll take one for the team in this case.  ;)

If we play a 1 seed, it means we finally got a tourney win. that's mission accomplished to me. want to be the best, ya gotta beat the best, right?

Also, half of this year's potential 1 seeds aren't scary.  Florida would be a bad matchup for us, and Zona would be tough too.  But I would love a shot at Wichita State, and whoever gets the other 1 seed has very little seperation from the 2's and 3's.  If you're going to play a top 3 seeded team, you might as well get credit for playing a 1.

Downside is if we play too well, we'll get a 8/9 seed.

Why is that a bad thing?

Well, winning our first tourney game ever just to face a top seed isn't the easiest path to a Cinderella run ever, but that's the negative Husker fan in me. I forgot to leave that BS at the door.

It's not BS, but, the path to a Cinderella run is never gonna be easy. I believe the quote is "Great moments are born from great opportunity". Get in, get as high a seed as possible and if that means you face a #1 in the second round if you're fortunate enough to win that first game, then so be it. That seems like it would be a heck of an opportunity.

Lunardi has us in as an 11 seed as of now. Apparently, ESPN's Brennon is not ready to call us a lock for the tournament even though he says Iowa is. Is he an Iowa alum or just crazy?

Yeah, Brennon's bubblewatch today is just BS and i was gratified to see plenty of non-Husker fans in the comments calling him an idiot for not having us in yet.

Honestly... if there's one team in the 2nd round that i would LOVE to play it would be Wichita St.  Why?  Because all the pressure is on them, and you know we'd give them one B1G punch in the mouth.

Would we win?  Who knows, but it would be a fun game.  If we DID win, our recruiting next year takes a big jump forward.  That would be one of the stories of the tournament.

They seem to have embraced the moment much like we have.

And as we know, 1-seeds are not invincible in Round 2.

Heck, in the women's tournament of 2006-7, the 1-seed Maryland struggled with Coppin State AT HOME in the first round, before the Huskers fell short against UMD in the next round.

Yeah, they're legit.  So's Wisconsin.

Several 1's that got beat by 8's or 9's were legit too.

Nothing wrong with wanting a shot at the champ... or a potential champ.  Of the four I'd rather play them.
