d-bag Gibbs is out with a dislocated knee cap.  Could it be from his Jimmy superfly dive in our game?  Could he be working a 7th year at Creighton?

No, it had nothing to do with the incident during the Jays v. Husker match-up.  He got his foot tangled with a DePaul player which caused the dislocation when he went to the ground.

Maybe Gibbs diving on Petteway was Karma for Petteway punching Conner Teahan?  I never really thought of it that way.

Ohhhhhhh gurl....

I know, bad idea, hey good luck against Michigan tonight.  I'll log out for awhile.

Perhaps...I guess if that's the case..... in the game of Karma then Petteway got the better end of the deal.  Petteway got a douch jumping on him...Old Gibbs got a solid dislocated kneecap.  If/when he comes back...it will be interesting to see if anybody goes after his knee and winks after doing so.

Y'know, Mose, just gotta say I don't think you'll ever piss me off posting here.  You're a decent chap.  I don't have a problem with you coming over here and sticking up for your guy and I don't think there is or should be any rule against Creighton fans posting here so long as they aren't a-holes about it, which you certainly aren't.  (Double-jay alum was and he got a well-deserved permanent vacation from the board as a result.)

Anyway, I'm saying that so that you'll know the spirit in which I respond, and that is that I think there's a qualitative difference between the kind of in-the-heat-of-the-moment, sort of knee-jerk reaction that would characterize Petteway's swing at Conner Teahen, and the kind of calculated, malice aforethought jackassery of Grant Gibbs.

I wouldn't approve of Petteway punching someone during an emotional moment, even a guy who has it coming like Conner Teahen did (or Grant Gibbs would have if Petteway had let one fly.)  I wouldn't have approved of Petteway doing that.  But I could understand the emotional reaction.

I do not get Gibbs.  Gibbs is just a punk.  An instigator by his own admission.  He's the one who would deserve to be decked even though I would not condone someone actually decking him.  And, therefore, when he has a bit of a mishap where he's injured mixing it up, it kind of has this poetic feel to it.  Like he had it coming even if it was just kind of a fluke injury.

I watched the video of the altercation between Petteway and Gibbs and I tried to be as objective about it as I could.  And the inescapable conclusion for me is that Gibbs was being a little bitch.  He wasn't going for the ball; he was looking for a chance to provoke some kind of reaction from Petteway in a way that might appear somewhat innocent.  But there was no intent to go for the ball.

The replay shoes Gibbs closing his eyes as he's about to land on Petteway.  Manigat is going for the ball, which is going the other direction because Petteway gets rid of it before Gibbs even arrives.  But, then, after Gibbs jumps on top of Petteway and the ball is gone, Gibbs proceeds not to try to get up but rather to roll on top of Petteway and attempts to stay there while Petteway is trying at first to get up and get away.  A brief perusal of the Creighton thread about the incident indicates that many Creighton fans agree with me, so I can safely say I'm not blinded by Big Red glasses.

Gibbs has earned the D-bag reputation he enjoys.  And while you hate to see a player get hurt, there is a certain amount of satisfaction knowing it was him.

Norm, I'm just having a little bit of fun and responding as politely as I can in response to a few posters here being gleeful that he was hurt. I understand you have your side and I'm sure you understand I have mine.  I don't think this is something worthy of debate because neither of us will budge. If Petteway was the one jumping on Gibbs (not suggesting he would, just using it for the sake of arguement) I would understand that you would be on his side of the argument.  I come in peace over here, you know that.  I just find it a bit ghoulish to revel in the injury of someone, anyone, no matter who they are.  That was my response to it and now, once again, I'll show myself the door for a bit.

Seriously though, good luck tonight against Michigan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  You don't need to show yourself the door.  I don't have a problem with you coming over here.  The way you conduct yourself is fine by me.  If there are folks over here who can't deal with honest disagreement, that's their issue.  That's never been a problem I've had.  I know I don't speak on behalf of the board, but I welcome the contribution that you make.  You respect the fact that this is a Husker board and that's really all that should matter.  IMO.

I'm not sure its reveling insomuch as it is a feeling of one getting as well as one gives.  Gibbs has dealt out more than his fair share of pain and frustration in his career apparently without a shred of remorse.  It's only fitting that he sees some of his own medicine from time to time.

A  lot of folks share your view, Norm.  Mose is good people and a class poster.

I wasn't aware that he injured someone at any point during his career.  Getting a taste of his own medicine is a far cry from applauding his injury or saying it is deserved.

He's far from a saint, Mose.

We Husker fans (or at least some of us) view him in nearly the same light as some Bluejay fans view Mike Peltz.  And I guarantee you there were Bluejay fans applauding HIS injury last year.

It's kind of a thing that fans do.

But, just to be absolutely clear, here is a summation of my feelings on the topic posted yesterday:  http://board.huskerhoopscentral.com/topic/3440-so-is-creighton-trying-to-overcome-the-rep-of-being-soft-by-being-dirty/?p=49494

He is far from a saint, (and my post about Teahan points out neither is Petteway) but as I said he has never injured anyone which was in response to saying he got a taste of his own medicine. The Peltz analogy is likely fair, but I would say the same thing to a Jays fan excited about his injury.

The condescension by Mr. Mose is a bit much on the issue (most Husker fans wish CU well, just don't think GG is worth the "hustle" moniker for being a punk in the final minutes of a game that was over).  I will concur that the analogies are likely valid between Peltz & Gibbs: If they're on your team, you love 'em; if they're on the other team, you despise 'em.  So it goes w/ fanatical followers of their team...
