ajb5856 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 My apologies if this topic is already on here, buried in things I haven't gotten to read yet. But is anything wrong with Petteway? Is he injured? Anybody have any insight or notice anything last night? I know he was hobbled on a play in the final minutes of the game but he looked gimpy to me prior to this. Quote
MandRHusker Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I didn't notice anything during the game except the time he limped off the floor. Looks like he came down wrong and was holding his ankle on the bench. Terran was a much better team player last night! He was less aggressive finding his own shot but as a result he took fewer bad shots and helped his team mates get much better looks. Norm Peterson 1 Quote

I really only think he came back in to hit free throws in the final minutes, because he was pretty gimpy coming onto the court. Quote
TheGov21 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 Maybe I'm in the minority, but bis body language drives me crazy. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but I hate when he misses shots he throws his head back and jogs back on defense. Seems to care more about points than anything else. Hopefully I'm completely wrong Quote

Hopefully I'm completely wrong I hate it too, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he's more upset that he's not adding to the team's lead than he is about getting his own points. Though the first shot he took, the fadeaway 15-footer with a guy on him, drove me nuts. He does get genuinely excited when other guys score, so I think he's just really concerned that we win. Quote
MandRHusker Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I agree Gov, Terran does show some attitude. But he played within the system and flow of the game last night and it showed. I trust Miles and staff to get this attitude corrected over time. Terran is a very competitive and skilled player who needs to fully buy into the system. He'll get there. By the way, I met Terran's parents in Charleston. Very nice people who are proud of Terran, as parents should be. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I get the sense Terran is just very competitive and hard on himself. The body language, to me, when he misses a shot, is of someone pissed at himself, not pissed at the world. I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like he's pouting and bringing the team down. There was one time he came off the floor kinda slouched in the shoulders and unhappy looking but he gave everyone on the bench a five (and they in return) and then found a seat. The one that had me curious, and did anyone else see this?, was Tai Webster going over to David Rivers at the beginning of the second half and exchanging some words with him. The teams were taking the floor and our 2nd half starters were out there on the floor already and Webster turned around, went back over to the bench, pointed at Rivers, and said some things and then turned and went back over to where the inbound was happening. After that, Rivers kinda looked around and talked to the player next to him and then to Coach Hunter with a sort of "what the hell was that all about?" body language. Anyone see that? Any of you guys with closer seats have any sense of what was going on there? Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 Terran is fine he plays with passion, which is something we haven't seen in awhile. Watch him when something good happens. Plus he is kind of like that pitcher that throws 100 mph fastball that isn't scared to maybe hit somebody once and awhile to keep the batter honest. Terran takes some shots to keep others honest and he just thinks it is going to go in. Quote
HuskerPower #nato73 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 Norm, It looked to me like he was disposing of chewing gum. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 The announcers on TV said when they asked Tim about terran that TM said he is the hardest worker he's ever had on a team and is the guy all the players depend on for guidance etc. leonidas 1 Quote
Fullbacksympathy Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I thought Terran was awesome last night and played his best game so far. His D and passing were really solid, and he was patient about his points. Even when he wasn't hitting in the first half, he took really good shots. He was the glue out there. I love the kid's passion. I think he's started to take defense more personally--that's where that sort of passion is so effective. When you're doing the right things, that sort of passion makes you a leader. When you aren't that passion is a poison. It looked to me like he's really figured it out, and to do it this early speaks volumes of his character. I thought he worked his ass off. throwback 1 Quote
PimpMario Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I think Petteway has a giant competitive streak in him. And clearly he has a temper. Sometimes when he gets a fouled call he reacts like someone cut him. I am afraid he will punch a ref. He definitely has some fire to him. Quote
jdostal Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 It's very fixable, but I noticed Petteway sagging off his man way too much to make a play on the ball (which he did a few times) even though there was somebody already in position for help defense. It gave up a number of open shots. hhcmatt 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 Petteway has a tremendous upside. If there is angst it is his somewhat quick trigger with the shot and his body language if things go wrong. The second half last night he was awesome. In the first half, he missed (what appeared to be) shots that he believed he should make. One could read/see the frustration in his actions. If I could see that frustration, so can his teammates, so can the opposition, so can his coaches and so forth. This kid can be a good one. He is still a piece of clay waiting to be molded. Quote
Hooper Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I agree with those who say that Terran's frustrated body language stems from pride and competitiveness. He desperately wants to perform well for his team/teammates/coaches. Folks may not like the dejected body language, but he cares deeply, and I'll take that over lackadaisical any day of the week. Pride and competitiveness help to max out natural talent, as long as a guy can control his emotions. Quote
HuskerPower #nato73 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I would take Terran's body language over Jorge Brian Diaz any day of the week. hhcmatt, HuskerActuary and tcp 3 Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 I would take Terran's body language over Jorge Brian Diaz any day of the week. Was just going to ask that as a question. Even though I had no problem with Brian's attitude, nor do I have any problem with Terran. No matter how he "shows" his emotions, as long as it is what makes him play his best. Quote

ajb5856 Posted December 6, 2013 Author Report Posted December 6, 2013 So I guess he's not hurt too bad then? As far as all the other topics go, I like Petteway. He's a good basketball player. He's aggressive, he makes his free throws, he rebounds, and he cares, a lot. A bad shot here and there? Yep. Body language? I guess I'm too focused on watching the result of the play to notice the reactions. Passing? It's coming along. My opinion is that Petteway is doin just fine. One of our better players. And Coach Miles agrees because he likes to keep him on the court. I'm fine with that and I'll take the good with the bad. Seems like he's been ragged on quite a bit here in the early season. Those opinions are fine too. Guy sitting next to me last night went on and on about how selfish Petteway is. Whatever. I watched Shields fail to take it up strong and get blocked taking it to the rim in the first half. People would've been bagging on Shavon for those plays if this were his first year and we didn't get to see what he could do last season. It'll all even out. The team seems to be coming along. AuroranHusker Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 There are qualities in Terran's play that seem a bit like Richard Hamilton's game... and, that would be a very good thing as the maturity aspect of his game takes hold for Petteway. Big fan of Terran as it appears his trajectory will continue on an upward trend. Quote

Insanely competitive, mostly in a good way. Quote
