7 games. I think we will be favored in 5, pretty large underdogs @ Creighton & @ Cincinnati. It would be a hoot to go 6-1 and enter conference play at 11-3. Is that possible?

Games:

Vs. Northern Illinois- SHOULD  win comfortably

Vs. Miam- going to be a tough test, hope we play well and get a W

@ Creighton- Best team on our non-conference schedule

Vs. Arkansas State- SHOULD win comfortably

Vs. The Citadel- SHOULD win comfortably

@ Cincinnati- Great test for B1G play. Going to have to play a lot better than we did this weekend to steal one!

Thoughts?

your math is wrong you say 7 but theres only six which you go into detail on each. With 6 games left in the non-conference they'd have to go 6-0 to get to 11-2, 10-3 is 5-1.

Win the 3 gimmees to start. Don't need any slip ups against those teams this year.

Try and use our home-court advantage to beat Miami. I think we can do it.

Creighton I see no way we win in Omaha. We don't match up well with McDermott. We'll probably have 2-3 guys foul out trying to guard him. However, I do think our ability to drive will create problems for them. If we turn into a jumpshooting team that game, we could get blown out. If we attack the rim, I really think we can hang in there if we're hitting free throws. Creighton is not the most athletic team in the world and from what I've seen they still can't defend guards who can drive.

Cincinnati, hopefully we catch them still sleeping coming off Christmas three days earlier. Haven't seen them play this year, but I'm guessing they are still very athletic will not a lot of skill. Will probably be similiar to UMass/UAB except in a hostile environment. Kilpatrick and Petteway might combined for over 50 shots.

beating creighton would really get us back on track. We may match up with them better than you think. They don't have eschinique to pound us inside. We have plenty of guys to throw at mcdermott, though it's not like you can completely shut him down.

Is it possible? Yes... with this team.. just about anything is possible.  In reality we are staring at two tough tough road games.  We have to win the rest to get to 10 wins. 9-4 would be great.  We need to take it one day at a time.  I believe we could win the rest if we play to the teams full potential that I do not think we have seen yet.

I've watched a few Miami games, they're struggling right now. Don't have a big time scorer. We should win that one, as well as the other 3 home games. I don't expect to beat either Creighton or Cincinnati. I'll be happy with 4-2, thrilled if we do better and disappointed if we don't.

We need to split the Bluejay / Bearcat games. Beating Doogie his senior year in Omaha would really be a punch in the ba**s to all things Creighton. It's lookin' like big "L" Smith might be the difference in each game.

Who is going to guard Doug? Creighton is one of the top offenses in the nation. If UMass is in the 90s its scary to think what Creighton can do with all the holes in the D right now.

I agree, we have a LONG ways to go if we are going to take I80 East into Omaha & give the boys in a blue a tough ball game. It is possible however, if like others said, we drive relentlessy all night long and shoot 30+ free throws

I don't know who will guard Doug but let's flip this around a bit. Who is going to contain Petteway, Webster, Biggs, and even Shields from driving to the basket? Can the Creighton defenders limit our guards? That will be the question. At least we really only have to focus on one guy. Dougie. He will get his points, we know that, but I think our defense can improve a bit in the next week or so and we will throw different looks at him. I'm not downplaying the challenge on our hands here but it is just that. It will be a challenge for us and it will take a great effort if we think we can come out with a win. But I don't think its a complete longshot or anything that's out of the realm of possibility. If we improve the defense a tad and come to play, we will hang right with them.

And, yes, UMass put up 96 points but I don't see Creighton being that much better a team than the Minutemen

I haven't seen Creighton play, but it's hard for me to believe that they aren't significantly better than UMass, and we had to damn near foul everyone on our team out just to hang with them.

Couple that with playing them in Omaha in front of a large hostile crowd, I just don't see any way we get a win there.

We have a better chance of winning in Cincinnati.  And even then I wouldn't give us much chance at all.  Fifth Third Arena is an extremely difficult place to play.  Cincinnati is 205-27 there.  That's an almost 90% winning percentage to you and me.

Can Nebraksa limit Creighton's guards? UMass and UAB apparently did enough and Creighton is better than both. If Miles focuses on one guys they are going to get burned. Creighton has shooters. Pettaway has gotten into foul trouble against worse guys. If he's guarding Doug he could be on the bench pretty quickly. They are a top 20 team, don't sell them short.

Okay here is something different, how about we let Doug get all the points he can and we shut down the others, I'm not saying don't guard him, just give him light pressure, so he doesn't get to the line after making his buckets.

Can he out score us? Just might be weird enough to work.

You also must remember that Dougie only gets 5 fouls just like the rest of the team.  If he is in foul trouble, Creighton is in trouble.  I think the game will come down to how it is being called.  If it is tight, we got a chance.  I think we have a better chance beating Creighton and Cincy honestly.

He doesn't guard though. He knows the guy he might let past him will still score a heck of a lot less points than he will in that game. There's a reason he's never fouled out (just double checked)

Seems like you know a lot about Creighton.  So your telling me he is just going to let our guys score?  That flop crap he pulled the last 3 years does not work this year, so yeah I could see why the guy will not guard anyone.

As much as it pains me to say, we don't have much of a chance to beat Creighton this year and here is why:

Points per game:           CU = 92 (11th in country),     NU = 76.8 (150th in country)

Rebounds per game:     CU = 40.5 (67th in country),  NU = 34 (253rd in country)

Assists per game:          CU = 22.5 (1st in country),    NU = 7.7 (350th in country)

Field Goal percentage:  CU = .535 (8th in country),    NU = .452 (162nd overall)

I would think Rivers & Shields will spend alot of time on MickeyD in the man/man. Otherwise sag that zone and HOPE he has an off night shootin' the 3. Didn't say it would be easy, just know how much I would enjoy that W more than the others.

I watched Creighton play Tulsa and I was not impressed.  Huskers can win the game if they play well.  By the way, UMASS is currently in the top 25.  Maybe the tunnel is not so dark.

I think you have to take SoS into account. St Joe's looks like the only team with a pulse Creighton's played, and I don't know how good they are. It'll be interesting to watch their game against Arizona St., who looks to be about on par with UMass.

That is a good point as according to Real Time RPI, our SOS is 21st and CU's is 130th.  We'll find out more about them once they play Arizona State who is 6-0.

For me, Cincinatti is in the same boat as Creighton. Neither have played anyone yet, but they both will have tests before we get to them. Hard to really say a lot about either of them except they SHOULD be good
