There is a poll in the paper this morning concerning the success or interest in the upcoming hoops season. 20% have us on 10-14 wins, 38% have us on 15-19, and another 20 have no interest (bluebird fans?). Anyway, so 8 out of 10 people think we're going to mediocre/bad or just don't care. I know this shouldn't make me want to bang my head against a wall, but it does.

It shouldn't.   That should be expected.    You're talking about a demographic from 10-19 wins.  No one should really expect us to not fall in that category.   No way do we win less than 10 and more than 20 wins is asking a lot for a young team with a difficult schedule.

My suggestion for next OWH poll: The city of Omaha has pretensions of being a major metropolitan center in the Midwest. How does it rate when compared with other US cities? a. As good as most b. Poorly c. Don't care.

Check out the front page story & photo of one Nikko Jenkins. This also sadly, says a lot about Omaha.

As much as I enjoy a couple of their columnists, I truly believe the paper is moving further and further away from Husker sports.   Their objective is to create controversy and sell papers.  They would rather find flaws in the programs than to provide objective facts.  But that is just my very humble opinion.

This is the truth! The questions that Sam McKewon asks the players are obviously geared towards trying to get them to say something controversial. Which then causes trouble in the locker room. Which then means play on the field suffers. So, I think we can all come to the conclusion that Sam wants the Huskers fail!

But in all seriousness, he is a slimeball reporter.

What if the actual truth is there are flaws in the programs?

I can tell you first hand this is the furthest thing from the truth.

Just a way over the top post.   We all have our preferences among the OWH guys.  I happen to think Sam is an excellent writer; and is extremely knowledgeable about football.  I think he is the most balanced and objective; keeps his ego and personal agenda out of it (unlike Lee B, for example). Over all I am not happy with the OWH approach the past few years, and believe the OP by CWG has some merit.  But to call Sam a "slimeball" is just ridiculous.  .

From what I've seen, most Husker fans can't deal with objective facts.

Husker fans, Creighton fans, High School fans, etc....Too many people want sunshine pumpers writing for the paper.  Whats funny is that a lot of NU fans think that the OWH is more "pro-Creighton" for example and the Creighton fans think that the paper bashes Creighton all the time.  I think both fan bases are guilty or "reading between the lines" too often.

I will stand by the observation that by creating controversy, one sells papers.  I believe the OWH has leaned that direction in recent years.  It is just the heart of the beast these days.  Again, I do like some of the writers...yet the overall product has changed.

McKeown is the biggest Husker homer around (well, excluding Sipple I guess).

If you don't like Sam, I suspect that you won't like anybody they could possibly hire.

Besides, aren't just about all of the sports reporters for the OWH graduates of your university?  Pivovar may be the lone exception (he went to UNO) and Shatel (Mizzou) doesn't count as he doesn't do any reporting.  If you can't get the homer coverage you desire from your own alums, who do you expect to provide it?

I happen to know slimeball things that Sam has done regarding the basketball team that would make you want to do things to him to make sure he can't write for the OWH anymore.

What can a reporter do to a basketball team?

Try to dig up sh*t and create bogus controversy.

Nyatawa went to Purdue. Kaipust went to UNO as well, I believe.

I actually don't mind any of them.  Shatel I'm sort of meh about.  He's pretty tame but I think there are half a dozen amateurs on this site who write better than he does.  I used to get ticked at Barfknecht because I didn't think he really gave Barry Collier a fair chance.  You don't start panning a guy in his first season.  (Though, in truth, I kinda did with Collier because I think they went down to ORU and lost right away.  Ugh.  That and some other things gave me doubts from about the get-go.  Bringing in those very doubtful juco recruits and not trying hard enough, IMO, to keep Louis Truscott when we needed players with size.  But I still gave Collier a fair chance to show what he could or couldn't do before I tore into him in any way.)

I give credit to Rosenthal and Barfknecht for finding stuff from time to time that hasn't been reported or posted anywhere before.  Some original content.  Like Rosenthal's tweet and story about the conditioning scores the players obtained.

I guess I read them for what they are:  sports journalists.  I don't expect total fielty to the athletic department nor do I expect excessive or over-the-top negativity.  It'll be kind of a mixed bag and that's generally what you see.

I've got us on 20 - 25 wins myself. I see at least 10 Conference wins and a top half finish.

What's always puzzled me is the casual sports fan who LOVES the football team, but has NO interest in the basketball squad.

If you have 0 interest in the basketball program, why even bother responding to the poll at all? Knuckleheads.
