Keanu Pinder of Sunrise Christian (Kansas) Academy, who orally committed to NU last October for 2015, will attend junior college the next two seasons instead, Sunrise coach Kyle Lindsted confirmed to The World-Herald on Wednesday.

This is a bummer, but it sounds like this was about more than academics. It sounds like he needs some developmental time as well.

I believe the writing was on the wall for him when he played very, very little at Sunrise this year.   Just wasn't going to be able to help Nebraska for awhile.  Good move for him.  I hope it works out for all parties.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if this decision were made together with the Husker staff, or even initially brought up by Nebraska. They may have determined that they didn't want his clock to start running in 2015-2016. This way, he can develop for an extra year before his clock starts and we can still probably get him if we want him. I suspect he'll be placed at a Husker-friendly JUCO. Seward County CC might be a good spot for him.

His clock is actually going to start a year sooner now. Original plan was to do another year at Sunrise next year and then have 4 years of eligibility starting in 2015-2016.

Now he will be at a JUCO next year and only have 3 years of eligibility when 2015-2016 starts.

He is going to a Juco for academic reasons at this point.  He must graduate from said Juco.  Which means he will be a 2 year guy starting in 2016-17 unless he redshirts a year.

I know he is going to be at a JUCO for 2 years. I was using the same year to illustrate that his clock is starting a year early. He will be down to 3 years of eligibility when 2015-2016 rolls around.

IDK, it's not that odd.... it could be a good thing: if he redshirts his 1st yr to bulk up & concentrate on the books, then he'll have a yr to break out at the JUCO level which could transition him to the next step fairly well. Who knows... it will be worth keeping an eye on his physical maturity & stick-to-it-iveness.

What doesn't add up? Wasn't he a known academic question mark from the get go? I thought there was talk that he might not qualify and have to go the JUCO route well before he even signed with us.

If it's academics, why can't he spend his 2nd year in prep school and THEN go to juco?  Why start his college clock a year early?  Something doesn't quite add up.  We'll see what he turns out like in juco but it's likely that he's off our radar forever.

Is it possible that due to classes/credits not transferring that even with another year of prep school he would not qualify for a 4 year school? Therefore, he needs a 2 year degree before he's able to enroll at a 4 year school?

Something that may be a factor is Keanu turns 19 in a couple weeks. Maybe he didn't want to be finishing prep school at 20 and still have 4 years of college. I would be willing to bet he would want to get his clock going with his age and at the very least could go home and play professionally.
