Vinny Posted February 1, 2014 Report Posted February 1, 2014 Believe me, it would be a close and interesting game. I imagine that they practice against each other. I imagine a lot of things. Never this though, until now. Quote

trickey Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 http://www.omaha.com/article/20140507/HUSKERS/140508815 Keanu Pinder of Sunrise Christian (Kansas) Academy, who orally committed to NU last October for 2015, will attend junior college the next two seasons instead, Sunrise coach Kyle Lindsted confirmed to The World-Herald on Wednesday. Hooper Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 This is a bummer, but it sounds like this was about more than academics. It sounds like he needs some developmental time as well. Quote
hhcmatt Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 We can fill his spot with a Juco player next year if we think he's going to transfer here in two years. Quote
Natural9 Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 I believe the writing was on the wall for him when he played very, very little at Sunrise this year. Just wasn't going to be able to help Nebraska for awhile. Good move for him. I hope it works out for all parties. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Im sure this has been talked about with the Huskers staff and probably why we have seen a lot of internet in SF's and PF's. NeHoops and ShortDust 2 Quote
Hooper Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if this decision were made together with the Husker staff, or even initially brought up by Nebraska. They may have determined that they didn't want his clock to start running in 2015-2016. This way, he can develop for an extra year before his clock starts and we can still probably get him if we want him. I suspect he'll be placed at a Husker-friendly JUCO. Seward County CC might be a good spot for him. Quote

Original plan was to do another year at Sunrise next year and then have 4 years of eligibility starting in 2015-2016. Hooper Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Yeah, sorry. You're right, this will start his clock earlier. Wow, not my best post. I need to stop posting right after I wake up. I guess this was more about academics and having a roster spot that can be used productively in 2015-2016. Pinder probably would have redshirted. Quote

AuroranHusker Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 IDK, it's not that odd.... it could be a good thing: if he redshirts his 1st yr to bulk up & concentrate on the books, then he'll have a yr to break out at the JUCO level which could transition him to the next step fairly well. Who knows... it will be worth keeping an eye on his physical maturity & stick-to-it-iveness. Quote
ajb5856 Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Doesn't add up. Doubt he ever makes it. What doesn't add up? Wasn't he a known academic question mark from the get go? I thought there was talk that he might not qualify and have to go the JUCO route well before he even signed with us. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Okay, I for one am ready for a bit of good news on the recruiting front...time to hear a large BOOM! Quote
Norm Peterson Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 If it's academics, why can't he spend his 2nd year in prep school and THEN go to juco? Why start his college clock a year early? Something doesn't quite add up. We'll see what he turns out like in juco but it's likely that he's off our radar forever. Quote
ajb5856 Posted May 7, 2014 Author Report Posted May 7, 2014 Is it possible that due to classes/credits not transferring that even with another year of prep school he would not qualify for a 4 year school? Therefore, he needs a 2 year degree before he's able to enroll at a 4 year school? Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Something that may be a factor is Keanu turns 19 in a couple weeks. Maybe he didn't want to be finishing prep school at 20 and still have 4 years of college. I would be willing to bet he would want to get his clock going with his age and at the very least could go home and play professionally. ShortDust, Silverbacked1, BirdsOnTheBat and 1 other 3 1 Quote
