Although, I do think it is possible to lose to Northern Illinois and lay a goose egg at the Classic. Of the other 6 games I don't know how many of those push or underdog games we can win. I think 7-5 is likely with 8-4 possible. But I would say 6-6 is also possible. To have a winning non conference we have to get 7 wins. Do you see 7 wins? Quote

I think you are confusing the Northern Illinois football team with the Northern Illinois basketball team. The basketball team stinks out loud and was 3-13 last season. Nebraska will blow them away and it may well be the easiest game on your entire schedule (along with Western Illinois, SC State, Citadel and Florida Gulf Coast ((Dunk City graduated and the coach left for LA LA land). I count six guaranteed wins. And by "guaranteed", I mean that you win no matter who plays or is injured. the only game you have marked as a "w" that I may disagree with is the one against one of the group of Clemson, Davidson, Georgia, Temple. Temple should be pretty good and Davidson is usually solid. Clemson and Georgia are not that good though. Quote
hskr4life Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I could see us get to 9 if everything goes good. We are not that bad of a team. WIth a little confidence and W to begin the year, it could be a fun ride. Playing UMASS at 3-0 with some MO would be huge. Quote
kldm64 Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 I don't think 8-4 is out of the question and that is with us going 1-2 in the Charleston Tournament. I think CU is a loss and Cinncinnati as well but think the rest are all winnable games. Quote

FredsSlacks Posted August 14, 2013 Report Posted August 14, 2013 This year could be rough just because of the lack of experience. I see us making a big leap next year and will pretty much guarantee that we make the tournament when shields is a senior. Quote

I see us making a big leap next year and will pretty much guarantee that we make the tournament when shields is a senior. Way to go out on a limb there. Jeez! If you ask me, I think we should be on the cusp of the tourney bubble THIS year, and a pretty solid lock for the dance NEXT year. Our roster of, well let's be honest here, actual hoops talent has basically doubled since last year, and we were basically one or two wins shy of the NIT. Now that we'll have a bench that has players on it, I don't see why we can't get those extra wins that will stretch us to the 60 or 70 RPI range. Quote

The only Miles recruit we've seen play is Sergej, and so far it has been a disaster. I'm not saying all of Miles recruits are going to be like Sergej, but I think we should wait and see how these new guys do in a game before we say we are a tourney bubble team this year. On paper we have some talented guys, but there has to be team chemistry and experience too. That is why i'm not expecting a tourney bid until 2 or 3 years, but it could happen sooner if these guys play well together. I'm also not ruling out Sergej as being a contributor, but none of us will really know until the games start how good each player is going to be and how much they've improved. Quote

AuroranHusker Posted August 15, 2013 Report Posted August 15, 2013 Florida Gulf Coast has 4 of their 5 starters back, so that's a fairly tough opener for Nebrasketball. Not sure who told the fan of the team to the east that "Dunk City graduated"... 5 of the 12 non-conference games are away from PBA, so that also is fairly tough no matter who happen to be the opponents in the Charleston Classic (keep in mind that it's likely that 4 of those 5 games will be against tourney-caliber teams as well). I suspect that 9-3 would be quite the successful non-con record for NU. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

Temple should be pretty good and Davidson is usually solid. Clemson and Georgia are not that good though. Florida Gulf Coast brings back 4 starters so they will be solid again. If you are going by that standard as a CU fan, then Butler will be awful too as Stevens left. And the "Big East" is really the "mini east" with no Lou, UCONN, Syr, ND and Pitt (the big boys of the Big East). NU has a DAMN good schedule this year and will be tough to find a ton of wins on any given night. Playing Miami, CU, FGC and Cincy on top of the Charleston Classic is a very solid OOC schedule. Its funny how a CU fan will try and down play this schedule but pump their fist when they beat a N. Texas team because they have 1 good player and will make their schedule sound out to be amazing all the time when in reality its average to below average every single year. Nebrasketballer 1 Quote

Not sure who told the fan of the team to the east that "Dunk City graduated"... For the record, I said that because the team's best player, Sherwood Brown, who was both leading scorer AND leading rebounder, graduated. He was also the team's leader in total minutes played by a large margin. Secondly, I wasn't putting down the schedule at all. In fact, I even went so far as to point out that the exempt tourney you are in is more difficult than the original poster thought. Quote

Sorry, but specifically mentioning "Dunk City graduated" is not the same as if you'd merely noted that 1 key starter & a coach are gone from FGCU... and secondly, my other comments were not directly at anyone in particular but the original post offering. Well every game is a winnable game but you have to look at the chances of you winning it. I think we can hang and even beat FGC and Miami but not sure we will beat Creighton up in Omaha (as much as it pains me to say that) Quote
