  1. He's a good player. Creighton was really high on him before adding some length with Gilmore, Harrell and Huff last year, and turning their apparent focus to guards for 2015 after the Patton commit. Think the offer has to do with Miles watching him plenty this summer rather than having much to do with NU's standing with any other prospects, including Morrow (and who is to say that Morrow will definitely be a better college player than Puryear?). NU's going to have 3-6 scholarships available for 2015, so there surely can be some skillset overlap among the guys who ultimately commit.

  3. I actually like Molinari for his recruiting ties. The guy has spent 33 years coaching in the Big 10 region. Between Depaul, NIU, WIU, UM, Bradley, and Ball State he has been connected with many coaches at high schools and AAU programs all across the footprint that will be the easiest for NU to sell recruits on. The years alone in Illinois will prove invaluable because of all the incredible basketball talent in the state. A Glynn Watson commit would provide a lot of validation for what you're saying.
  4. Individual success for Petteway this upcoming season could be as helpful for recruiting as continued team success. The more he pops up on ESPN, the better. If a year from now, he's being talked about in terms of where he'll be drafted, great. Some kids probably need to see that someone wearing the N can have hoops fame and go to the League. For rival coaches, Nebraska has to be one of the easiest big conference schools to negatively recruit against because of its history and location. Not that all coaches go that route, but sustained, publicized Petteway success will give Nebraska something else it can check off the list of its possible negatives. The turnover among staff members likely hasn’t helped Miles' early high school recruiting, nor has the fact that only Hunter has had significant recent high major experience. Molinari could turn out be a great hire, and he does have a couple of Minnesota years sandwiched in between a lot of mid major years, but it's arguable that a younger guy, especially one with high major recruiting experience, would have been at least as good of a choice. But the hire's been made, so hopefully this current group will stick together for two or more years. That said, I think Miles' recruiting looks as promising as it did a year ago. Like Kamdy said, transfers were going to be a tough sell this offseason due to all of the minutes returning. Don't think you can be too hard on Miles for not securing a bigger name at this point. From what I've seen, Miles has done a great job of identifying needs, finding underrated talent, and targeting players early. The 2014 class is a little underwhelming, but at least each guy fills a definite need. I would expect the 2015 class to be a more respectable, middle-of-the-B1G-pack (or higher) group.

  6. Fans are hypersensitive in Omaha, Lincoln and every other place (look at comment sections or twitter after any minor swipe is made against any pro or college team in America). Since one of the frequent provocateurs of Jays fans is the same OWH guy who spends his Fall getting hundreds of Nebraska fans upset over perceived offenses, it’s pretty clear to me that both the Jays and the Huskers have a lot of oversensitive fans. Either that or all of the people upset with Dirk’s football writing are Jayskers. As for obsession or fear about the other team, there is ample evidence on Huskers boards and the Bluejay Underground to suggest that it’s mutual among the dozens of people who actually post with any frequency on any of those boards. For instance, I’m not sure why there was a need to start this thread on the main board in the midst of an unbelievably awesome stretch of play. Ditto for Jays fans who do the same. Anyway, I think that since message board fans are considerably more obsessive, fanatical, and sensitive to slights than casual fans, it’s foolish to make too many assumptions based on what you read here, or RSS, or Husker Board, or Bluejay Underground, or anywhere else on the internet. I know there are a lot of obnoxious Creighton fans out there. I was a Creighton student. They’re prevalent, although hardly the majority. I also know, as someone who has spent plenty of time in Nebraska, that there are greater numbers of annoying Nebraska fans, based on the facts that Nebraska is the state school, is a much bigger school, and will always have more fans. Again though, it’s a vocal minority. I like this board. This board is too good for threads like this. That’s just my opinion.
  7. LOL!!! You're probably right. Would make all kinds of sense for him to do that. Does he vote? Just quickly scanned the list of voters. Looks like Painter, McDermott and Mark Fox may be the only coaches who have faced Nebraska this year.
  8. http://www.nycbuckets.com/2014/02/nit-bracketology-feb-3/ #7 seed against the #2 seeded Dayton Flyers
  9. The apparent Biggs departure would seem to present a nice opportunity for Dickerson to find a more meaningful role at NU than some of his other likely options. I'm sure that won't go unmentioned or unnoticed. I see that he has recently followed a number of NU-related twitter users.
  10. Sadly, it appears as though the B1G does not have a Newcomer of the Year award. Just an award for the best Freshman. If Petteway keeps putting up really good scoring numbers, a Third or even Second Team selection seems possible. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big10/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2012-13/misc_non_event/2013AllBigTen.pdf http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/big10/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/2011-12/misc_non_event/B1GMBB12Awards.pdf
  11. That's mostly true, I think. But, they do have a guy, Donovon Jack, who is one of the better shot blockers in the nation. He had 5 in PSU's one point loss at Purdue on Saturday, and 5 against MSU, too. Overall, the game looks like another dog fight to me. Unrelated, but how insane is it that about 1/3 of the way into the conference season, Northwestern somehow has more conference wins than Ohio State, Indiana or Illinois?
  12. That's against some RPI killers. If they can put up against St Joes and ASU then you're onto something. Doug McD can almost always beat one guy and the rest of the team can shoot. It's a recipe for success. I understand that and understand that Doug opens up opportunities for others. I'm just saying that the guys around him can actually put the ball in the basket Sure. To an extent. They didn't much last night against UMKC, though. Take away Doug's 37 pts (which I know you can't do because, without Doug, they probably pick up some though not all of his scoring) and the rest of your guys chipped in 59 pts on 20 of 43 shooting. You had two other players in double figures and no one else was really all that close. Listen, Doug is clearly the best. Far and away. No one would even seriously argue otherwise. But as good as Doug is, no one else on your roster really puts the fear of God in you. And I would say we have a broader array of weapons. Which is NOT to say we beat you. But, as I've been saying for several weeks now, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Creighton wins this game and your team better come ready to play or it could be a long night. Just sayin. I agree that the outcome is not etched in stone. It rarely is in this series, even if on paper this is one of the more lopsided CU v. NU matchups we've seen in a while, considering the differences between the two teams and the fact that the game will be in Omaha. I disagree with you about the "next 2 or 3 best players" and "broader array of weapons" comments, but there's no question that Doug carries this Creighton team. I think if you followed Creighton as closely as you follow Nebraska you'd have a different perspective about weapons. Even if you look solely at both team's first games, and take McDermott and Shields out of the box score, there was more evidence of weaponry from the Bluejays than the Huskers. 51 points for other Huskers vs. 87 for other Bluejays. Dunk City's much better than Alcorn State, but neither opponent provided a great test. Anything's fair game in a topic called "looking ahead and daring to dream", and maybe after each team plays another half dozen games, your Creighton vs. Nebraska thoughts will be more obviously justified than they seem to me right now. It's so tough to tell anything after a couple of November home games against inferior opposition.
  13. http://www.nycbuckets.com/2013/11/pomeroy-rankings-movement-nov-10/ Look at #2 in the biggest negative movement category. Nebraska absolutely wrecked those guys.

  15. The yahoo article is actually from last year.. NOV 5 2012. Tubby Smith was on the hot seat, and Tim Miles and John Groce are new coaches. haha, that explains it (it will also teach me not to just google something, look at the predicted finish, copy, and paste). above post fixed. I share uneblinstu's opinion about the problems posed by their lackluster nonconference schedule. HB's correct to note the likely improvement of their younger guys. However, Eric May was kind of important for them, and I just don't know that a team lead by Marble and White is truly ready for the breakout year anticipated by some. And here's another preview: http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/11/06/2013-2014-big-ten-preview-the-power-resides-in-michigan/ and another: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9938701/the-big-ten-won-championship-2000-elite-conference
  16. Some recent B1G pieces: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/89631/the-state-of-the-big-ten http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/23985528/college-basketball-conference-previews-big-ten http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns-tsn-aen-bigten-outlook-20131104,0,174898.story I question whether Iowa can actually take that next step and be something other than an NIT team, and think that Illinois is more like a bottom 4 team than a 6th-8th place team.
  17. Here are the formula-based preseason rankings from teamrankings.com http://www.teamrankings.com/blog/ncaa-basketball/2013-2014-college-basketball-preseason-ratings OSU: 4 MSU: 6 UW: 10 Mich: 15 Iowa: 21 Indiana: 22 Minn: 32 Purdue: 43 Illinois: 56 NW: 107 Nebraska: 127 PSU: 131 When I clicked on the cbssports rpi link, no rankings appeared.
  18. 8 conference teams in the top 35? Brutal. His formula in projecting NU to finish 10-18 (4-14). That's two games short cause games 2 and 3 of Charleston are not included.

  20. The Bucknuts guy has made a prediction: http://247sports.com/Player/Elbert-Robinson-21913/PlayerInstitutionPredictions
  21. now, he's retweeted the tweet about D'Angelo Russell thinking that Robinson's going to be a Buckeye. that's either true, or he loves taunting those OSU fans.
  22. I just looked again at the 247 Crystal Ball, and assumed that I see at least one new Ohio State prediction. But, a day before the announcement, it's still all LSU, except for one September Georgetown prediction. And, one of those LSU votes was submitted this weekend. There often seem to be 247 prediction runs in the 24-48 hours before big announcements, but that's not happened yet, even after a lot of OSU signals. The Crystal Ball may not always be accurate, but to have that much recent LSU activity and zero OSU activity certainly supports the LSU is in the lead and OSU may not even be #2 rumor. Something to watch the rest of the day. Several recruiting guys have said that only 4 schools are in contention tomorrow, and TAMU, Georgetown, and SMU are not in that group, right?
  23. Offered. Another Adam Barnes kid. He attends the school in Lynchburg, VA where Barnes is coaching. @jhall2016
