ajb5856 Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 Nice article about Rays work this summer. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/gallegos-working-on-versatility-leadership/article_a60facd2-6489-5f05-8a3b-85c39e0c0419.html Quote
Swan88 Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 It's good to see Ray working on doing more toward scoring than shooting threes!! Here are some excerpts from the article: Gallegos "is working this summer on becoming a more versatile offensive player. . . . 'So, what I’ve been working on is dribbling the ball more and being more comfortable in creating in different ways.' . . . 'Ray needs to do a plethora of things better — use his athleticism, not be one-dimensional in terms of the types of shots he takes only being three-pointers,' Nebraska coach Tim Miles said. 'What’s he got for a pull-up game? What’s he got for getting to the rim? How is he getting fouled?' It’s a topic Gallegos and Miles discussed in their end-of-season meeting. . . . 'The most impressive thing I’ve seen with Ray this year is he seems to have a good idea of what he wants to get better at, and you see him trying to do it,' Miles said. 'Now, what result does that guarantee? I don’t know, but I feel good about his mind-set.' Teammates have noticed a difference in summer pickup games. 'He drives to the basket more — a lot more than he did last year,' sophomore Shavon Shields said. 'I mean, we’re going to need him to do that, because everybody knows he can shoot. If he just shows the ball at all, he can pull up, he can get to the rim. He’s super-athletic.'" Quote
Hooper Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 This was my main complaint about Ray from last season -- he was too one-dimensional. He had the worst ratio of trips to the foul line vs. playing time of pretty much anyone on the roster last year. The stats from last season show that Ray didn't drive to the basket nearly enough. It's great to see him diversifying his game and trying to build on what he already does well. He'll need to do this in order to be a complete offensive player. Quote
hhcmatt Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 It's exactly what he needs to do if he wants to stay on the court this year. As streaky as he seems he needs this sort of game to either get him going or something to fall back on when his shot isn't falling. Like Hopper mentioned he rarely drew contact. If him putting it on the floor doesn't lead to more contact, we're probably not looking at a great improvement here. If it does lead to contact, will he be able to take the punishment. He's talking the talk so hopefully he can walk the walk. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 One of our leaders for this season...I kind of like reading this quote... “Ray needs to do a plethora of things better — use his athleticism, not be one-dimensional in terms of the types of shots he takes only being three-pointers,” Nebraska coach Tim Miles said. “What’s he got for a pull-up game? What’s he got for getting to the rim? How is he getting fouled?” Quote
Dicemanhusker Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 I'm glad he is working on diversifying his game even more. As Dimes said, it's really what he needs to do to stay on the court more. Motion offenses require "read & react" types with a diversified skill set to log heavy minutes. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 He also needs to be able to go to either his left or his right. Last year, he was really good at hitting the pull-up three going to his right hand but not so good going to his left and I think teams scouted that and tried to take away his right hand dribble. Hey, it wasn't like he'd put it on the floor and drive it past you. Quote
colhusker Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Another thing Ray will have going for him this year is IF he starts he will not be required to log the number of minutes he had to last year which will keep the legs fresher for the jump shot. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 I will be utterly shocked if Ray is not a starter throughout the year. Shocked. But I agree that he will not be close to the minutes played this past year. I am betting on 24 to 26 minutes a game... Quote

In my case I won some contests, and kissed Cip's rear end incessantly. If salsa is your favorite thing, I predict you will love Cip's. It has a unique smoky flavor that sets it apart. May the Salsa Gods shine their light upon you. Quote

I would be shocked too cwg, just trying to make the point that when a shooter legs go the shot goes. With the new depth if as good as it appears, his minutes should be reduced. Quote

cipsucks Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Okay, here's what I'll do. Let's call it cip's Christmas in July special. This is only for posters who have never had my salsa. Auroran, since you came back from self-imposed exile, you can also participate. The first 5 people who ask for a jar of salsa on this thread will get one. One caveat: I'm not shipping the stuff. Every week I'm in Lincoln and Omaha. I also travel the highways and byways between Holdrege and the big cities. If you're close to where I am, I'll get it to you. I've got hot and mild on hand, so specify which you want. I'll contact the winners via pm to figure out delivery details. Merry Christmas! Quote
