I realize that cwg has a thread on this topic properly placed on one of the other areas but I seldom check there and since Barry once coached here I thought this deserved some space on the main board. What the heck is Danny Ainge thinking in hiring Brad Stevens??? Butler, with a campus the size of Nebraska Wesleyan, is about as far from the shark tank of Boston professional sports as one can get. And no matter how impressive the coaching credentials, I fail to see how Stevens will motivate egocentric multimillionaire pros to play like Butler Bulldogs. I predict disaster and a return to the college ranks for Brad within 3 years. Since I think he has a financial background, he may be able to take enough money with him to be have his future security assured, but he will be in for some very difficult sledding until that happens. At least we won't have to worry about Collier poaching any of our coaches, since the Butler facilities are about as far removed from our new digs as possible. Have a safe Fourth everyone.

It is a curious move, no doubt.  I believe Brad Stevens will heavily focus on analysis more than the gut-feel that Doc Rivers used to coach Boston.  It will be fascinating to track the C's rebuilding progress with a coach younger than departed stars KG & The Truth.

There is a bit of poetic justice in it I suppose, Collier left us in the lurch when he ran off to Butler.  Some could argue we're still paying for that fiasco...

It's only fitting then, I suppose, that he is left holding the bag in the wake of Stevens' departure.

I don't get the gut feeling thing. I know he is known as a players's coach but most of his players say he is the best x & o coach they have everes played for.

It's more of a comparative difference to the saber-analytics that Stevens prefers when it comes to substitutions and playing time.

One could also say Collier did us a favor by taking another job before being fired so we didn't have to pay him.

One could also say Benedict Arnold saved the Colonies the cost of building a gallows by moving to London.  :)

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Brad Stevens to the Celtics?  What about Tyron Lue?

I liked that kid.  Liked his character as a player.

Loved the way he dealt with the crowd when he was back for his HOF induction.

True gentleman.  Didn't big-time anyone.  Including the ol' Norm.

He went with Rivers to LA.

Really? Back where it all started. The Lakers were the team that drafted him if I recall correctly. Or at least the first team he suited up for.

Lue is at the Clippers, not Lakers.  The move by Doc to the Clippers may have had a lot of pluses and minuses for many; but for Lue, this was gigantic. It looks like he is now one step away from his dream.  My bet is that he is a HC in the NBA within 3-years.

Basketballjones:I do believe that professional athletes are hard working, driven, and coachable whenever it suits their personal interests. But that's their job. Your description should fit anyone who works for a living. And time will prove whether I am right or wrong on Stevens and the Celtics.

The Celtics are going to be a young mess for the next couple of years and probably would love to finish dead last next year in order to win the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.  Might as well give a shot to one of the most highly regarded young college coaches out there.

Serious?

Do you think workers should not be hard working and driven?
