Defense = good

Brice = good

Rebounding = good

Intensity = good

Everyone else other than Brice on offense = BAD

I'd give Hoiberg a pass on offense at least.  Probably needed to get him more looks.

He was a bit intimidated by the size as evident by his fast break where he froze up in the lane.

We do miss him.  But, the real blow is Mast.  He is a more skilled Berke on the offensive end.  It sucks we didn't get him in Brice's last year.

Besides the obvious in missing the shooting, Morgan is a much worse passer and he knows it. He looks at so many back doors Mast would make but holds it because he knows he can’t make that pass.

It was one of the better looks he generated tonight from our best 3pt shooters.

You can argue a few different things to do there decision wise (timeout, drive, pass to Connor, pull up yourself) and it's one of those situations where there's no right answer. You live with the result. I would've liked Brice to take it himself, but I think Michigans bigs were back in or near the paint, and Brice had already missed a few shots late, so I understand Brices thought process. Take the open look

Well feels like if they dont turn this thing around Saturday we will end the season with 5 straight losses.  Are we locked into the big ten tournament or is there a chance we could miss it at 7-13?

im not sure what changes or tweaks can even be made at this point. Not gonna burn any redshirts, not gonna give Griffiths any run in a close game, not sure what rotation even gives us the best chance to win currently? Wooster, hoiberg, Williams, Gary, Berke feels like the best 5 to run out there but that’s not enough scoring power to win at this point it feels like.

All of which were from the free throw line (and that includes all 3 post players).   0 for ??? from the field and 3 -6 from the free throw line.

Morgan wasn't getting Summit League finishes against that length. Meah is working his way onto the 5 man lineup when the other team needs to foul you

Tough loss because we had lots of chances to win.   Not sure I can remember going to game where both teams shot under 30%.   We needed Michigan to shoot poorly and that happened - giving due credit to our defense.   But also contributing to the low shooting percentages was the fact that it was an absolute free for all inside the lane.    I am sure Juwan is still trying to figure out what he had to do to get a foul called on the Michigan guys shoving and hacking him when he went to the hoop.   That was true to some extent both ways - but I think we also needed a quick whistle so we could get to the free throw line - and while some ticky tack fouls were called in the perimeter they basically swallowed their whistle entirely on lots of plays.   Again not saying it was completely one-sided - just would have helped us I think to get a game called a little tighter.    (That said I think DJ's foul call on Essegian in the first half may have been the worst call by an official I have seen all year.)

We are an offensively challenged team.   Brice is fantastic but we need to have someone else step up to help him and no one did that on the offensive end tonight.   Berke forced things and missed when he did have good looks,  Connor could not make anything obviously and the other guys who are really deficient on offense anyway all had below average offensive games even for them (other than Sam).

It is critical that we not let this one beat us twice.   If we come back and at least get the remaining two home wins - and maybe get at least one win in the Big 10 tourney that is hopefully enough to get us an NCAA bid.

You literally can’t make it up.

Random thoughts after decompressing:

- I believe we had 3 straight possessions in the first half when we were up 3 and we couldn't push the lead.  Essegian had a wide open look from the wing during the sequence.  That was a big missed opportunity in the game and loomed large.

-  Rollie's missed layup and Morgan's missed bunny late in the second half were killers (obviously).  They weren't ready for those moments.

-  I don't get why Essegian sat the first 9 minutes of the second half.  Yes, he didn't make a shot but as others have said, he at least spreads the floor and makes the defense respect him.

-  Brice was great (again).  I wish he would have been more selfish at times late in the first half and early in the second.  He had some open looks from three and deferred, likely because it was early in the shot clock and he had gone a bit cold from three.  It doesn't matter though, he needs to shoot as no one could throw it in the ocean besides him.  I am sure he is especially frustrated he missed the shot at the rim in the final minute.  There was a little contact but I expect him to finish those most of the time.  I am sure he was gassed.  The dude is a warrior.  He made the smart basketball play at the end of the game.  He could have lost a a limb driving in the lane and I think the refs would have swallowed their whistles and claimed it was already falling off.  Your best shooter has to knock down an open shot.

-  Berke was really good defensively.  It's a shame the layoff affected his offensive rhythm because he was playing and shooting with confidence.  Assuming he and Mast are back, we will have a couple of great foundational pieces that are going to cause defenses a ton of headaches.  I believe Berke will become a good shooter before his time here is done.

- Uhlis was fine and didn't cost us the game.  That's as good as I hope for him if he sees the court.  We have got to find a PG that can shoot.  Rollie had several open jumpers around the elbow and wasn't confident pulling the trigger which made sense considering he banked one in.

-  Sam was good again and shouldn't have sat with two fouls in the first half as long as he did.  This topic has been beaten to death on other game threads.

-  We win our last two home games, we are in the tournament.  That's all. The loss tonight sucks but this team still controls its destiny and everything is still in front of them.

- I think my son and I are taking our annual pilgrimage this weekend to see us throttle Minnesota.  Our track record in attendance is pretty solid so if we somehow lose, it won't be on us!

I know we keep saying Bryce should have taken that to the hole, and he probably should have.

But I can remember multiple times earlier this year with the game on the line him dribbling off his leg or turning it over. Essegian was WIDE open. His look was a good shot. High percentage (or should be) look.

Fair point, and no guarantees with Carstens and Pfeiffer out there, but sure felt like Brice was getting to the stripe if he took it to the rim.

Tough one. Great crowd tonight. Props if you were a part of it.

Berke was definitely rusty offensively.

Brice almost singlehanded let us upset a top 15 team.

Juwan seemed affected by the interior size, when he did drive it seemed he just jumped up off balance and threw the ball up at the rim.

Honestly, Meah needs to play more than Morgan. Andrew is not playing well right now. He had a very bad game tonight.

Connor has gone cold - Hope that warms up like the weather.

Rollie is just not a starting big ten level PG. Lawrence wasn’t a point guard but he was much more athletic and could shoot. We miss Lawrence.

- Berke(0-10), Essegian (1-5), Gary (2-13) and Morgan (0-3) were a combined 3 for 31... 9.6%.  That is Nebraska's four best scorers outside of Williams.

- Berke helped in every other way outside of Offensive Scoring, but was a huge part of the reason we lost.  He barely hit rim tonight.

- That was Berke, Gary and Morgan's worst games of the season and they all picked the same game to have it.

- The team looks tired and outmatched the last 4 games.  I am including Northwestern.  Even though the defensive effort was high our shots are tired and worn out.

- This is what Gary always does.  Has nothing to do with Michigans bigs

- Morgan was 8-8 with 18 points against Penn State.  So we will have to agree to disagree.  However last night was 100% the worst he has played all year.

Connor has gone cold - Hope that warms up like the weather.

- Conner has off nights more than he has on.  He needs to make one to start feeling it.  He has had too many 0fer's

- Rollie was normal Rollie last night, and quite honestly he is the best we got.  He shot 2-6 which was 21% better than Berke, Morgan, Gary and Essegian were combined last night 3-31.  Had he shot 30 shots he would of least made 10.
