I hate to say it but this looks to be a saliently bad team. Andy Katz has them sixteenth in the conference. That seems generous. They can't shoot, are startlingly slow afoot, don't distribute the ball well and turn it over to a pathological degree. Other than that, they look great. Friends, this is year six of the Hoiberg experiment. I know he is smart and competitive, but this team is headed back to the bottom where they usually reside. As MichHusker said, '...Hoiberg went into the portal and got next to 0 offensive threats'. How can someone as smart as Hoiberg think these players can compete in the Big Ten? Is it because they are as tall and heavy? They have no chance of defending the opposing guards in the league. They are a team of flat-foots. Wow!

This will likely be the Hoiberg's last year, and it should be.

St. Mary's will run them out of the gym and the CU game will be an all-time laugher (CU by 35+) as it usually is. The A.D. might as well put on his blindfold and spin the available coaching wheel.... Next!

First time I’ve seen a Husker basketball post call for the coaches firing after a win. Guess the expectations have been raised 🤡🤡

Yeah, I understand a new roster takes time to gel, but the problems appear to be deeper than that. Pretty much as you described... the individual players added from the portal just aren't very good IMO. Not enough shooters, and it's not like we have athletic freaks in their stead. Just a bunch of plodders.

People overreacted from the tourney game last year. Everyone freaked out that we needed to get bigger just because one team beat us in the paint. But they never mention that A&M happened to hit all their threes that night too, something they never did. I wonder if Fred got wrapped up in that narrative...

I do not agree that this will be Fred's last year. Nor should it be. We aren't firing a coach a year after making the tourney.

Context here... Ugly is ugly, but a win is a win.

Unfortunately, the metrics used to select tournament teams disagree...

A win versus a bad team is better than a loss versus a bad team. So I think the metrics agree.

Sure. But the sentiment of that saying is that it doesn’t matter as long as you win. And that’s not true in college basketball.

It should be true in November, but for some reason the selection committee is told to treat November games equally to February games. Which is absurd and goes against the spirit of sports.

The spirit of "a win is a win" was in the context of "we just squeezed out a 5 point win against a 2023 NET #308 team". So you take the win and find a way to stop the bleeding for future games. We've got much bigger problems to sort out before we close out the regular season than worrying what the selection committee is going to say in March.

Offensively, we are simply going to struggle this year. Last year CJ, Keisei, and Lawrence could all hit threes at a very high rate. It also helped Williams last year. Worster and Uhlis aren’t dropping 4-5 threes per game. So our outside shooting is going to be a weakness

I saw Worster go 14 for 15 from three in warmups. He’s got to shoot. He’s now  2-4 on the year. BC was blitzing pick and rolls but going under for Uhlis always and Worster at times. He has to take that shot.

This is definitely one way to say we’re 2-0….
