Why are we collectively so afraid to call it a great season? Yeah, we got boat raced in the tourney. One and done, I get it it. But the YEAR is on the Mount Rushmore of Husker Hoops seasons. And beyond the wins and losses, this team was a joy to cheer for. The year was fun and exciting and full of far more ups than downs. Don't be afraid to call it what it truly was: great. I hesitate to call it that because they haven't won a trophy or achieved what had never been done before. What's wrong with a good season? By the way, last season I didn't call it a good season.... so, maybe we are splitting hairs here. My definition of good and great may not be far off. I had an absolute blast in Memphis, other than seeing A&M guards drive by us unabated or those few dudes burying triple after triple. The rest of the experience at March Madness was very memorable. I figured A&M and Houston would provide a great show, those two were clearly the class of Memphis as far as talent collection. I am in no way disappointed by 2023-24. In fact, I am the one who advocated for winning a trophy in Minny would have been my preference over a singular win in the NCAAs. Recall the Alumni Weekend they honored the 1994 champs, and that's forever. Now, granted, I selfishly wanted both. GBR Always. Edited March 25 by AuroranHusker Ron Mexico 1 Quote

For me personally, this was a great Nebraska basketball season - if not only for the fact that this program consistently is terrible and this year was far, far from that. Coming in with the expectations we had and the recency of being dreadful the last few years, a good season - in my opinion - would have been making the NIT, and a great season would have been making the NCAA Tournament. The best season ever would have been an NCAA win. I think a great season is one step below that. Hopefully our rotation all returns and we add some pieces in the portal and we enter next year with higher expectations. Handy Johnson and HuscurAdam 2 Quote
49r Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 This is kind of a stupid semantic argument, but chalk me down for "great". The goal would be for this to eventually be considered just a "good" season, but as a program we are just not to that point IMO. But I will emphasize again that this is purely semantics and it's stupid to argue the semantics over whether it's a "good" or "great" season. Huskerpapa Posted March 25 Report Posted March 25 Never let good get in the way of greatness. We now must improve exponentially. That said, it is fair to say expectations for this year were met and or exceeded. Handy Johnson 1 Quote

Room for B1G improvement, yet a solid base for said improvements to be made. GBR Always. Quote

The addendum is that we don't finish in the top four unless we're predicted to be in bottom four, and when we're (rarely) predicted anywhere but the bottom four, we finish in the bottom four. Good and great are subjective terms, so I can't argue anyone's opinion on that. However, I strongly believe it was a great season, and "great" might not go far enough. I tend to judge a season based on my expectations going in. This season I was expecting .500+ and an NIT berth and hopefully getting on the bubble and sneaking into Dayton if all of the stars aligned. This team finished in 3rd place in the Big Ten (THIRD!) and was widely considered to be a lock before the conference tournament even started. Meanwhile, the team was a joy to watch, with a fun pace/play style, always gave max effort, and no knuckleheads or prima donnas. Just because it could have been better, doesn't mean it wasn't great, at least not in my book. cornfed24-7 1 Quote

So, finishing top 4 was an expectation of mine. It was an utterly fun experience all around. My 16 year old son and I went to every home game. My bro went to most, likely 90%. And my bro & I were in Memphis, too. It was a total blast, other than the final outcome. Keisei going off in those first few minutes of the game was simply ELECTRIC. And the team send-off from the Sheraton was AWESOME, too. I want to keep watchin' Tominaga, maybe I'll need to go to the 2024 Olympics to see KT!!!! GBR!!!! Quote

Gotta find a way to watch Team Japan's games in the Olympics. There must be some streaming service available (maybe like for the World Cup?).
