If he'd told Tom that no, we are not giving the head coaching job to Frank, you can either keep coaching or I'll bring in someone new. 2. Congrats to Trev and Texas A&M for a great championship series and congrats to the Vols for a tremendous season and your National Championship. Well deserved... Hskr, BigTate and jaimes2000 3 Quote

Congrats to Trev and Texas A&M for a great championship series and congrats to the Vols for a tremendous season and your National Championship. Well deserved... Was chatting up some A&M fans Saturday night after they won the first game of three. Were nice enough guys, but I jokingly brought up the Trev thing and one of the dudes pulled a complete 180. "All you Nebraska fans do is b*tch about Trev. He saw a hotter girl with more cash and moved on from his raggedy, old gf. It's pretty simple." All I could say was take it easy man... kldm64 1 Quote

Swan88 Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 It seems that Trev is good at managing coaches: e.g., he hired Rhule and didn't fire Hoiberg, and all NU sports teams seemed to improve under his leadership. But the business and change-management parts of the job are huge these days: and whether he is up to handling those parts remains to be seen. At Nebraska: Trev was highly visible (as compared to Troy Dannen, who isn't)--whether that is a good thing or bad (or if they even let him do that) remains to be seen at Texas A&M; Trev's stadium expansion initiative will move forward at Nebraska--in a modified form--but it had some questionable elements, including the total cost and whether Husker Nation would get behind it; Trev had some odd views on NIL, which seems bizarre in this NIL-crucial environment; and Trev seems to want a large role in the rapidly-changing college sports world, but in his highly-visible role at Nebraska, he created more of an "Aw-Shucks" image than one of high-competence in that area of responsibility. kldm64 1 Quote

Exactly what are you expecting that he is never allowed to leave Nebraska? He went from UNO to UNL to Texas A&M very quickly so he must be doing something right. I was hoping he would stay at UNL longer but if someone offered me more money, I'd do the same thing he did. Hard to hold a grudge against him for taking a job offer with potentially better opportunities (especially with the deep pockets Texas &M has). Quote

Isn't your stance on players getting paid and bouncing from school to school for better paychecks almost the opposite of this? I think as a former Husker, fans had higher expectations for how his tenure would go than it did. Less than three years here, leaving with a giant stadium project falling apart and friction created between the athletic department and just about every relevant body tangential to it. doc1394 1 Quote

Huskerpapa Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 (edited) 1. I'm not sure I would categorize Trev's move as shocking. Instead I would call it surprising. Many thought his projects, recent raise, recent hires, tended to cement him in place. It perhaps is a Nebraska thing. 2. I don't believe for a moment that his leaving was a money thing. He had just received a raise that he was happy with and the salary at A & M wasn't dramatically higher. Besides, he has a $4.2 buyout of his Nebraska contract. 3. He seemingly turned his back on his Nebraska lore/legacy. Doing so is "unique" to most Nebraska fans. 4. Many in the know, believe the lack of, or change in leadership, soured Trev's take on what he wanted to accomplish here. No idea what that means; but it must have been serious enough to be the first Lemming off the cliff. Thankfully, no one of high significance followed him. Edited June 25 by Huskerpapa Quote

Less than three years here, leaving with a giant stadium project falling apart and friction created between the athletic department and just about every relevant body tangential to it. My stance is college players shouldn't be getting paid as they are already getting paid with free education, meals, clothes, etc. However, now that they can get paid, it's hard to blame them leaving to make more money. I have said that now college kids are getting paid, it has ruined college sports like we know it. There is no difference between college and pro now. It has completed changed the landscape in college sports for how you recruit now. You don't sell them on your school but rather what kind of NIL deal you can put together for them. Things change and even if I prefer the days before NIL, just have to adapt to the way it is now cause it ain't going to go back. I would agree with you that fans had higher expectations for Trev and his tenure here at Nebraska. I was one of them but I'm just not someone who needs to take cheap shots at him for leaving if he felt like that was a better opportunity for him. It obviously had to be a hard decision to leave the school he played his college days at so there had to be strong reasons for him to walk. I may not have liked it either but I try to be objective and understand his side as well. Vinny 1 Quote

He got a shorter deal, in fact. This move was about Trev not liking the potential new President, Jeffrey Gold, yet I will confess that is strictly my opinion. Quote
cipsucks Posted June 25 Report Posted June 25 Without looking it up, I can't tell you the new athletic director's name. To me, that's a good thing. Do great things behind the scenes, don't mess with the good, quietly fix the not so good, wash, rinse and repeat. That was never going to happen with Trev. Not necessarily his fault. He was always going to be in the spotlight, whether he wanted it or not. I like our trajectory right now. Sometimes trades work out for both teams. He's a nice fellow, I met him on his 1st day on the job while in Memphis for March Madness. I hope it works out well, for all parties. I'm not happy at Trev but I clearly don't hate the guy, either. It was a business decision, I'm sure. Quote

It was a business decision, I'm sure. Yeah, some people would not state that he is a nice fellow. But that is not a number one trait. He needs to be fair and reasonable with exceptional business acumen. At times he must have a quick trigger, and then have the sense to slow play a situation when necessary. Being nice does count though when dealing with most patrons and to the populace that provides $$$. Quote
