I like this. I think this is a good start. This is good for SDSU. The BIG 12 should have snagged them. Missed opportunity. Wonder what other 2 they'll get?

Why would the Big 12 want SDSU?  They don't bring much to the table.

I wouldn’t say they’ve been kicked to the curb YET. This current structure needs at least two more teams. They’re simply announcing the splashiest teams right now to build momentum and get people talking. I’d guess Nevada and UNLV are next, maybe Wyoming will be one of the last to bring it up to 10-12 teams.

There was an article on Yahoo Sports this morning that discussed this situation and that article basically stated that Wyoming and Utah State would not be considered due to their small market stature. It went on to say if the PAC-12 added any more MWC programs they would take the Nevada schools and possibly the Air Force. You may ultimately be correct, I was just going by this Yahoo Sports article.

Saw another one that was advocating that South Dakota State and North Dakota State should make the jump up and the PAC12 should take them. Don't think it will happen, but it would be pretty freaking sweet

Here's another list. I agree that your 1st two options have to be to try and get Stanford and Cal back. Probably at a minimum they grab the Nevada schools to get to eight, but surely they want to go more.

Why would that make more sense than promoting Montana and Montana State out of the Big Sky instead?

 

But that point is moot, those top tier FCS schools would be better served to slide into the abandoned MW slots anyway if their ambition was to move up to FBS (which, IMO, would be misguided).

I agree. That's just what I saw. Their point was since those two had a bunch of Championships it's the logical next step. I don't see how you make the money work, but it would be cool. I got my Nursing degree from SDSU so I'm always pulling for them a little bit

How can this “revised” PAC conference survive?  There are no major media markets so the TV contract will be minimal.  Maybe the Big XII should be nervous if BYU, Utah and the Arizona schools bolt back.  New Mexico needs to get serious about football and they might be attractive.  Best hope is to have Cal and Stanford to return though they might snivel at the academic standing of those schools.

Saw the Mt West may offer to cover the $5M FCS to FBS fees for NDSU and SDSU and maybe Montana to entice them to make the jump. Right now, though, the Mt West is fine. Just can't drop below 8 schools.

 

I'm guessing the Pac-6 will raid at least a couple more teams, though, so the Mt West will have to do something. Also saw the Pac-6 may try to find 3 football schools and add Gonzaga as the 10th member. They have to add two more to get to the minimum of 8 schools.

 

Stanford and Cal agreed to the GOR deal that's holding the ACC together, so I believe they're stuck in the ACC minus a huge buyout or the ACC collapsing.

 

So glad we are where we are.

I went to a Fresno State/Oregon State Football Game in Corvallis 1991, & we bought tickets at the window for $3.00 @ Kickoff.  It’s Nice to be at the “Grown Ups” Table.

Even then, those are the #45 (Memphis) and #58 (New Orleans) metro regions in the states. For comparison, Omaha is #56.

 

Those aren't big enough markets to legitimize the media contracts or the league.

Thanks for putting me down a tangent 

 

Had some time to take a look at some of the Power conference details (and including Pac-12 here because it's a part of the conversation here. Note: it also include the future 4 schools in 2026).

 

Beyond just market size, it's also evident that the Big 12 and Pac-12 are lacking heavily in endowment vs. other conferences.
