hhcmatt Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 The Huskers land yet another player out of the state of Illinois in Nana Akenten. The athletic 6'6" Akenten is known for his shooting and his nickname is an appropriate "NuNu" Click here to view the article Quote
49r Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 Similar build to Horne. But I presume he's a very different type of player. Quote

FredsSlacks Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 i like this pickup. he has a nice shot and pretty good athleticism. he's a pure shooting guard with length that i don't think we have on the roster right now. Quote

jimmykc Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 From my glimpse of him last week, he just had the "look" of a basketball player. Also shows our coaches know how to close a deal when they get a player here. I think we are going to be real happy we were in on Nana early. Red Don and HB 2 Quote

Fullbacksympathy Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 I wonder if any hyperbolic Omaha writers want to cry about this one. Great get. Twice the player Arop is (no offense to the kid). Outstanding offensive talent, and an absolute steal under the radar. AuroranHusker 1 Quote

Huskerpapa Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Looks to be a very, very good pick up for us. 49r mentioned he is comparable to Horne. I respectfully disagree. I cannot tell in the limited video how quick he is, but he certainly appears athletic. He is a guard/wing hat seems to have more similarities to a hybrid mix between Shavon and TP. Horne is a power player that appears to have the ability to step outside. NuNu appears to be an outside player that may be able to mix it up a bit inside. The great news is that he has an appearance of being both a shooter and a scorer. Quote
49r Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 My comparison to Horne was more to his height (I said build but probably meant height) and being unranked by the scouting services. In my defense I did say that I assumed they were very different players. Quote

hhcmatt Posted September 16, 2016 Author Report Posted September 16, 2016 Did a deep dive on Nana today. http://ilprepbullseye.com/Akenten_Nebraska.html https://www.prephoops.com/2016/09/nana-akenten-talks-nebraska-visit/ The book on Nana seems to be that he's a B1G level athlete and can get and make his shot. I think there is work to be done on defense, ball handling, and probably on all aspects of his game which would explain why he's not rated by anyone. If he continues to develop gives us the spot up shooting, SG defending player this team needs. Quote
GATA Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 A fantastic athlete that can shoot? Yeah, we can work with that. Quote

Plus, he's easily athletic enough to be an excellent B1G defender. He fits a major need at the 2. We have a lot of 3-4 swing guys, but we don't really have any 2-3 swing guys. Great job from TM and co nabbing another Illinois kid. thattimeofyear 1 Quote
jason2486 Posted September 16, 2016 Report Posted September 16, 2016 Maybe a tad bit of Kendrick Nunn minus the off-court issues and not a lefty. Quote
