  1. 1. What production does Roby give us?

    • Similar to Jack this year
    • Similar to Morrow this year
    • Closer to Glynn/Jacobsen this year
    • Bench/Redshirt
  2. 2. Horne?

  3. 3. Gill

Here's where I'm at for now.

I think Gill is going to be as good as White or Shavon this year and will have some wow games like TP5 had 2 years ago.

I think Roby is going to be a more skilled, dribbling, scoring version of Jack, but probably a similar scoring average.

I think Horne can team up with Jacobsen, Morrow, and whoever else is in our big rotation and do alright.

I think this team takes a couple nice jumps forward next year. Hope its enough.

I agree on Gill, but he's a different player than either White or Shields.  I think he'll be as impactful as they have been, though.

Jack has a pretty solid freshman year season line:  17.2 minutes/game; 5.2 pts; 2.7 rebounds; 36% from three.  If Roby equals or exceeds those numbers, I'll be satisfied.

I'm not sure where Horne fits in.  I know he's a bit undersized for a B1G power forward.  I don't know that he has the explosive athleticism to make up for it.  He is brawny, though, and he's a far, far better shooter than Ed Morrow.  So, he could certainly find minutes on a roster that needs guy who can score.

There is a 0.0% chance Roby redshirts unless he suffers a season ending injury. You can say the same for Horne.

Just curious for your opinion on where Jeriah Horne plays and more importantly who he is gonna take minutes from?

I think he'll have the girth to fight in the paint like we need him to but it really sounds like you're describing the next Shavon Shields here.

khoock I think Horne shares mostly with Morrow and gives Jacobsen an occasional breather...assuming we get a true 5 to go along with 'em.

This is my prediction with the current roster and signees. We will be deep and I think minutes will be tough to come by for Fuller, Evelyn, and Horne.

I see his chance of playing decreasing even more if we sign a center that can contribute right away. Bc that will push Jacobson to the 4 with Morrow and I still think McVeigh will get minutes there too.

My opinion on him not redshirting is more about guys not redshirting, not because I think he's going to play a ton of minutes.

Have to think he's in the SF-PF rotation with guys like White, Jacobson, McVeigh, and Fuller. Not sure if Roby is in that type of rotation or if he's with the guards.  Also depends on who else we might sign or lose, obviously.

Good point on Roby. I see him more likely to get backup point gaurd minutes than Bakari. But i think the two gaurd spot minutes will be locked down by Webster, Watson, and Gill as I see them each getting 25+ minutes. I am excited for the competition for minutes next season.

Assuming Gill is the real deal, Webster is going to be huge next year as the backup for both him and Watson and you know that you can get good production out of him off the bench after this year. Bakari has to be ready next year because you're an injury away from being in big trouble and it would be great if he was able to earn more PT.

Your lineup predictions reflect what a glut of players we have at 1 1/2 spots:  Guys who aren't big/tall enough to be true 5s and maybe not quick enough to be true 3s.

Jacobson is not a 5 in the B1G.  He'll play there by default if we don't get someone else, but if we do get that someone else, I think you're right that he shifts to the 4.  OR he backs up the 5.

He hasn't shown the athleticism to play the 4 yet.  Not at a middle-to-upper-tier B1G level.  And he'd have to fight the following players for minutes at the 4: Morrow, McVeigh, Horne and possibly Roby.

Morrow is far more athletic; I believe Horne has better post offensive skills and can step out and hit mid-range out to the arc; McVeigh was a better scorer in fewer minutes.  If we find a 5, Jacobson might start at the 4 but he might not.

I think Roby needs to be White's understudy.

Interesting comments by Miles on his show last night about both new and returning guys.  He said Bakari could redshirt, or could get minutes at point.  He said the area he has struggled the most with is defense (But as Norm points out, he was 1-14 on 3s, and the misses looked flat-out ugly.  If he struggles more on defense than that, I I have trouble thinking he will ever make it. But the comments from Miles suggested he will be back).

Webster may see more minutes at the point.  Miles said Gill is a much better athlete than anyone we have going north and south, and should help us a lot in transition, where we have struggled. Isn't as athletic as Tai is laterally, but can get to the rim going forward.  Claimed Gill is a good shooter (despite that not being apparent at Louisville).   Hasn't been as dominant as White was during his year on the scout team, but has been very good.

Not sure if you can really draw much from this but for me that's atleast a bit concerning.  Obviously White is a great shooter, but I was hoping the next two years we would be getting the same type of production out of Gill that we got from Shields.  We are going to have to hope guys like Watson and Morrow live in the gym and take that next step starting next year or else I'm afraid we will continue to look lost on offense at times.

I'm hoping for a starting lineup of

Watson/Gill/White/Morrow/5th Year XFer Big

Webster the first off the bench.  I think he should be Watson's backup as well.   He's valuable because he can be more than serviceable at two positions.   McVeigh, Roby and Jacobson are the next 3.

I have all the faith in the world that Miles will find a starting Center for next season and the line-up will look as you described.

I was told by someone within the program recently that Gill is a scoring machine and had over 30 points in a 10 minute scrimmage a month or so ago. I was also told that Roby would start day one....great combination of height, ball handling, scoring and passing skills.

I have trouble believing that either Morrow or Jacobson will play the 4, at least next year. Jacobson neither has the ball handling nor foot speed to play against B1G 4s. Morrow is athletic enough but needs to improve ball handling dramatically. I guess MJ can become more athletic and EM can improve his ball handling skills but just not confident that will happen.

I see the rotation looking more like this, given our current set of players:

PG          Watson/Webster

Wings     White/Gill/Roby/McVeigh/Webster

Center    Jacobson/Hammond/Morrow

Horne is a bit of a mystery to me. Not sure we see any of Evelyn or Fuller unless there is an injury.

The four spot will definitely be the most competitive position for playing time next season.

I suspect the best thing about Gill will be that he'll open things up for White.  Significantly.

He's that guy who can and will take an open shot or create one for himself.  Defenses will be forced to account for him and won't be able to help off of him.

He'll add scoring punch for sure.  But, maybe more importantly, he'll allow Andrew White to get better looks because defenses won't be able to cheat on him.

We tend to slot out rosters more based on defense than offense so who can Morrow or Jacobson guard seems more important for determining where they play than their offensive skills. I don't think either of them is an offensive focal point next year either.
