Handy Johnson Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Right now, and I want to stress that, he's a one dimensional player who's one dimension ain't that special. The_Vault 1 Quote
HuskerActuary Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Nearly every statistic is down for him on the year. Points per game: 9.3 to 7.0 FG%: 47.3% to 37.3% 3FG%: 41.0% to 29.6% 2FG%: 54.1% to 50.0% FT%: 69.4% to 50.0% Off rbnds per game: 1.1 to 0.8 Def rbnds per game: 3.6 to 3.9 (slight improvement) Assists per game: 0.5 to 0.5 TO per game: 0.5 to 1.2 Blocks per game: 0.6 to 0.5 Steals per game: 0.4 to 0.3 And regarding all of those stats that are on a "per game" basis that worsened - since he is playing more this year, if I showed them on a "per minute played" basis, they'd look even worse. edit: Let me also add that the percentage of his shots that are 3's have increased from 52% to 62%. Huskerpapa Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Walt is struggling...as is about everyone on the team. Are they thinking too much, trying too hard, out of rhythm, hesitating slightly, lacking trust, too tired...or a combination of two or more of the above? Hard to pick on one player at this point. We are certainly a different team at home than we are on the road. Quote

Terran and Shavon have been shaky the last couple of games but overall their stats are just as good or better than last year. Quote

hhcmatt Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 It's very probable that the pump-fake crap he does is killing his FG% and increasing his turnovers. When he pump fakes, often times he does so when he has a perfectly good shot. If he just pumps and doesn't go anywhere, he gives a guy time to close in. If he does go somewhere, typically it's no where and he'll rush up a bad shot. Sometimes it's somewhere and he's caught in a place where he might get stripped by a smaller player or make a rush pass. If he has more than 10 buckets after driving from the 3 pt line I would be shocked. In the course of a year trying to improve his driving game he's turned into a dude with a eFG% 8-10% lower and a guy that occasionally turns the ball over instead of rarely. If the guy just caught the ball in rhythm when it's passed, it would help a bit. If he wants to make 2s, and he should when his shot isn't there, he should hang out in the paint. ladyhusker, royalfan and REDZONEDAN 3 Quote
ajb5856 Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Dimes is spot on. The hesitation pump fake crap absolutely kills any kind of rhythm. In the northwestern game, when he was hitting, it was just a quick catch then shot. One in the 2nd half that he splashed he barley had time to get off because he wasn't really open. That's way better than the pump fake to draw your man even closer. It's nice for him to show some interior game, but the pump fake does nothing, and Walt is no good to us unless he's spreading the floor by making 3s. He needs to come out firing away, and if he's off, then the coaches can bring in Abraham or Leslee to spell him. Quote
jason2486 Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 Or he pump fakes, dribbles towards the hoop, then does a step back to the 3 point line. He is very ineffective when using a pump fake. Quote
HuskerCager Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Why don't we ever post up Pitchford? Have we ever had a team that plays inside-out less than this team? Walt doesn't have to do that all game, but if we could get a look inside every once in a while it would put a different kind of pressure on the defense that isn't happening now. We do that a little with Leslee. Regretably, that isn't going to happen with Moses - no offense, but he just has hands of stone. Quote
atskooc Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I'd like to see us post up Shields a bit. Quote
PeltzFan12 Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I've watched just about every minute, from the highs to the garbage, of every NU basketball game Walt has played. For the life of me, I can't ever remember him dropping one of those three's after doing his little stand on his tippy toe pump fake, take a dribble, step back and then shoot a more contested three then he had to begin with. Maybe he always drills them in practice that way. Doubt it. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Like I said in the game thread (and I'll say it again now, because I have a full-sized keyboard), before the game, Kaminsky was hanging out in the lane working on post moves. Spin to a lefty hook, spin to a righty hook, dropstep J, etc. Meanwhile, Walt is clanging three point attempts. Which of those two players hit a trey during the game? The guy who was doing nothing but shooting threes in warmups or the guy who was practicing posting up? Walt, get your candy ass underneath the basket and start working on some post moves. All of our offense starts from beyond the arc in. We need some offense starting from the blocks out. HuskerActuary and 49r 2 Quote
PeltzFan12 Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 I watched Walt's highlight video about a dozen times. Showed it to my fellow Football fans to get them interested. Told them we had a poor man's Kevin Durant. (Yes, that was a blatant lie, I knew he wasn't) Some of those highlights show him driving and dunking, but most show him shooting three's.......foreshadowing. Quote
49r Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 He nearly pulled the goal standard down on that dunk last night, tho. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 He nearly pulled the goal standard down on that dunk last night, tho. That was about as wide open as it gets. I was waiting for a ref to call a T on him for grabbing and hanging on the rim. That would have brought the freaking house down. Quote
