oh god worst combo possible

Somewhat surprised he didn't look into Michigan but those are two schools where you shoot first and play defense later.

I'd expect him to choose Creighton over Iowa....a lot less mouths to feed.

An interesting transfer possibility. Tarin Smith's friend and former 3 star teammate Hallice Cooke is transferring from oregon State. 6'3'' SG that had 8, 2, and 2 as a true freshman. 41-90 from 3 pt.

Any news on Cooke?

Not good news. Can we get Fred Hoiberg to run the Omaha Clippers next year?

It is Ricky Kreklow from Cal.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51346/ricky-kreklow

After starting his career at Missouri, Kreklow transferred to Cal after his freshman year. The 6-foot-6 former three-star prospect averaged 3.1 points as a redshirt sophomore in 2012-13 and 5.5 ppg and 2.6 rebounds last year as a junior.

He missed a combined 35 games over the past two seasons due to injury. Kreklow plans to graduate this summer, and would be eligible to play immediately at his new school.

Other schools in the mix that would be getting visits from Kreklow were Creighton, Butler, Baylor and Missouri. It should be noted that Kreklow is a native of Columbia, Mo., and he's already publicly expressed interest in potentially returning to the Tigers.

Why did he leave Missouri the first time ?

That would be strange to transfer back to the school he transferred from 3 years ago.

I hope this doesn't mean that things aren't looking good for Deng and Cornish.  Kreklow doesn't seem to be much of a scoring threat, but he could add depth behind Petteway and Shields.

This would be a strange pursuit for us IMO given what he appears to bring (or not bring) to the table, and some of the seemingly better transfers out there that we didn't appear to pursue very hard (like the guy at Oregon St, the other guy at G-Town, Ian Chiles, Cole Huff, etc.).  I'm not sure how this guy would fit.

I understand that whomever we recruit in this class will need to be comfortable not being the #1 or #2 (or maybe even #3?) scoring choice, but still..I don't get this.

For the record, I hope we gave a hard look at Jerome Frink down at FIU.  He is a decent scoring 6-6 F that was recruited by Richard Pitino originally out of St. Anthony's.  Former teammate of Tarin Smith.  I know he's been mentioned on here before but I'm new to the board so I apologize if this has been covered already.  He averaged in double-figs as a true frosh down there, and then 8 & 4 this year as a soph under a new coach.  He still hasn't landed yet.

I'd agree

Comments from the Cal Bears SB Nation page

Seems like a guy who would contribute as a role player ala David Rivers and would only be on the books for one year.  That's sort of the plus side. Not sure how this would be much of an upgrade over Dwight Smith

Um let's see, he's bigger, he shot a higher percentage, he played more, he scored more, he rebounded more, he assisted more, he was more highly recruited, he is a better athlete and he played for a better team in a better league

Here are high school highlights of Ricky Kreklow:

I think he looks like a solid addition if we can land him.

I guess I am not particularly excited about adding another one-and-doner.  Yeah, I get the niche that a guy like Ayegbu provides, but what niche would Kreklow give us that we don't have now?  I think you can over-load with short-timers and weaken the chemistry of the team.

I tend to agree.  The senior one-and-doners need to fill a specific purpose.  Either they are a super-star that you can't pass up on or they fill a very specific and necessary need, which Moses will do for us next year.

We need more dudes who can stroke it.  He looks like he can.  Looks like this could continue the pattern of diamonds in the rough.  Take another player that fills a hole on this current "right now" team and make sure we have a nice year next year.  Then free up the scholarship for 2015 which is the big recruiting year in my opinion.  This would be better than a reach on someone.

IMO I'd much have another one and doner as opposed to keeping the scholorship open and giving it to a walk on.
