Mistakes Miles has made

1.  The dismissal of Corey Hillard - Hillard was accused of stealing a cell phone.  Charges would be later dropped as he was found to not even be involved in the incident.  Why is this a problem. 1.  The false accusation made against him could have wrecked his life.  It says Miles will not allow due process & he will not stand by his players.  Bad sign for an one coming in.  2.  It is possible Miles was looking at a potential extra scholarship spot, I could get more of MY guy's in MY System.  Hillard was a Sadler guy and that was most likely what did him in.  Miles showed that he was not concerned with the well being of the student.   He will throw you a way in a heart beat if he thinks it will effect him or he can get a better deal. TIM IS A USER.  NOT A GOOD SIGN.

2.  The scheduling of the Charleston Classic was a big mistake.  This is a classic case of they eyes are bigger then the stomach syndrome.  I like that Miles is willing to take on name brands school. That speaks well of his attitude, fearless.  I like it.  But TIM styles himself "An Advanced Stats Guy". What do the Stats say.  They say we got our butt kicked.  I am betting right about now Tim wishes he had those 4 win back.  Don't get me wrong.  I like that Tim has the Cojones to play some decent teams, but Tim   should have gone back to the Sun Bank Classic.  We could have won that and he could have then brought UAB and Georgia in to play at PBA.  Wouldn't that have been nice to see. For us the Non-con defines the season, 11 or more wins are required in the non-con, preferably 13 or 14.

3.  Not accepting a tournament offer.   BIG BIG,BIG BIG mistake.  Tim had a chance to play, get exposure on TV and play some decent  teams and passed it up.   The team deserved to play, and we fans deserved to play and Tim deserved to play  Who cares if it was not the NIT or NCAA.  TIM you does not get that this is Nebrasketball, not Kansas or Duke.  We play in the Big 10 not the MW.  We play in one of the hardest leagues in the country and we deserve something.  CIT or CBI it does not matter to us.  Put your ego aside Tim. Take any tournament, we can build off of that. Here is a hint:  Pick the one where we can get the most wins.   There are over a 120 slots for tournament play.  If you don't make tournament this year, it is on you and you only Tim.

4. Deverell Biggs.  I want to reserve judgement on this on for now.  It is too early to tell if this was the right decision or not.  If we make tournament play it was, we can second guess later.  I will say that I have seen a propensity to be a dictator and come down hard on guys.  You mess up under Tim and boy it is over for you.  Maybe that is the case with DB.  He got on Miles Bad side and was never same after that.

1. If I am a D1 athlete I wouldn't even put my self in a situation to get into trouble. Hilliard had prior incidents of I'm not mistaken.

That assumes he had control over the situation.   I don't know of any priors, so if you care to share please enlighten us.  I could just go and ask him.

2. We wouldn't be in the position RPI and SOS wise right now without Charleston. It does no good to play Patseys. Without Charleston, we are not having discussions about dancing.

Hog wash.  you can schedule your self a decent schedule,

3

. It didn't hurt us 1 bit. Most of the players playing solid minutes this year couldn't have played anyways....

as far as branding & exposure it most definitely did?

4. What Crazy said

What exactly has Miles done to warrant such loyalty? Nothing so far. He dose not have a better track record then Doc or Barry as of yet. So why all the band wagon talk.  Why so high on Miles?  He has not earned that kind of loyality

Posted

1. We don't know the situation with Hilliard. You don't either. Maybe he wasn't buying into Miles system. Maybe, it was a mutual decision. Hilliard wasn't going to get much playing time.

2. Miles knows what the committee looks for in their schedule. UMASS and Georgia are not coming to Lincoln. Georgia, for one, would demand a return trip. Plus, it allowed us to prepare for conference play.

3. We would have had to go on the road, as the Bob was being remodeled for volleyball. We were graduating most of the team that would have played meaningful minutes in the tournament. Finally, it would have cost us a bunch of money.

4. This is just plain stupid. Biggs got a DUI last year, strike 1. He was late for a film session, strike 2. After all that, he was late for another film session. Final strike. If Miles was heartless as you say, he wouldn't have let Biggs stay in school to graduate so he can play at a Division 1 school next year.

If you can't see that Miles has the program in the best place that it's been in the last 10 years, then nothing is going to satisfy you.

Also, your replies are really hard to read.

Everything here is spot on, except for Biggs graduating. I don't think that's going to happen so he'll have to go D2 to keep playing.

He brought in the best scorer since Maric. At least Petteway can create his own shot. Maric needed the ball fed to him. Prior to their days at Nebraska, Berry had kept a solid Butler program on the upswing. Doc had taken Gillipse's players to an NCAA trip and then they went to the NIT. Miles took programs that were awful at every level, and made them into winning teams and NCAA tournament teams. Will that happen at Nebraska? We all hope so, but we won't know for a couple years. It's looking promising. He took a team coming off a year with 4 conference wins, and won 5 games against a better group of talent plus a tournament game.

This year looks like we should surpass our 5 win total with only 4 players from the previous coach getting meaningful minutes (2 of them could be argued Miles had to re recruit). So, I think he knows what players it takes to win in this conference. Doc couldn't keep players here, and Barry tried to coach them up.

I didn't say Biggs was going to graduate. I said Miles let him try to graduate if he wanted to. Icedragon makes it sound like Miles just throws players out on whims.

I can drive down to SF and ask him it is only 60 minutes away.  What we do know is disturbing.

I understand the reasoning, but we could have even take the lesser toruney and played at home.  the bob is just an excuse.

The Bob began being switched over to volleyball after the Minnesota game. Where were we going to play our supposed home games? And, those teams you mentioned had many players returning the following year. We had 4 players returning. 2 of them are averaging 10 - 15 minutes per game this year.

Biggs also forced Miles hand, not keeping his nose clean. Again if Miles was heartless, Serge and Benny would be long gone already.

Biggs got three chances to do right by the team rules. How many do you think he should have gotten?

Devaney wasn't an excuse for not playing post season, it really wasn't available. The day after boys state they tore into it.

Welcome to the new breed of Nebraska Sports fan. These fans believe the game should resemble a video game. These people would trade their integrity for championships. Unfortunately a few of them have brought their toxic waste to this board and they will bring "friends". Expect it to get progressively worse in the future.

Says the guy whose out to get Eichorst because he's not Tom Osborne. Ron you seem to be very very bitter. Osborne is not coming back!

Dude your making this to personal. I've judged him solely on the job he's done based on the position he holds. His biggest moves thus far have been to hire a couple of unnecessary overpaid middle management bean counters instead of paying more to the assistant coaches.

Lmao what?

Tim Beck salary under Tom Osborne- $ 365,000

Tim Beck salary under Shawn Eichorst- $700,000

So now we are in the business of giving handouts just for the hell of it? What exactly did the assistant coaches due to deserve a raise this past year?  If anything, our beef should be with Eichorst giving Els a raise....you know, the guy who can't even put together a punt return unit.  Produce...and you will get a raise...plain and simple.  That recruiting staff bean counters is more than Tom Osborne ever did to help this staff get over the recruiting hump.

Two words: Terry Joseph

When TO took over as AD the athletic department was in a financial mess. TO rewarded the loyalty of all the coaches by giving them raises once the financial situation improved.

Handouts?!? We went 9-4 last year. They deserved a raise. No bean counter can sign a kid. Money that could have gone to the recruiting budget.

Warren is flat out dominating in recruiting right now. Happier with him than Terry Joseph, anyway.

1. Most coaches do some house cleaning when they come aboard especially when taking over as horrible team as we had. If he's a user then explain why David Rivers is still here?

2. You like the scheduling and yet you don't?!? He upgraded our schedule during the non-conference and it is paying off now.

3. Rather than going to a tournament that wouldn't have helped us one bit it was decided to focus on recruiting.

4. Miles was put in a bad situation here and that's all I'm going to say about this subject as it's already been discussed.

We've been a horrible basketball team for more than a decade now and you make a post like this in year 2 of Miles tenure?

im only going to address one point from icedragons post

2. regarding the Classic tournament, when Miles schedules the tournament, he has no idea, how skewed the officiating will be, if those games are played last year under the old rules, or in January or February, where the refs and the players have a rough idea of what the game should look like, i think the outcomes are greatly different, plus ill take a few losses over good competition than 4 wins of directional state, and sisters of the poor a&m

You mean to tell me wins over Alcorn State and Denver wouldn't impress the NCAA selection panel if we found ourselves in the discussion? Who woulda thunk it! The Sun Bowl put together a stellar list of games. Of course...non-conference SOS means diddly squat to the selection panel....right?  As hard as it may be...I've found it best to just not reply to Icedragon's opinions as they are very far out there.
